I'm sure I could have got something far better, but I just got one of these boards. Mostly because I had 2x SATA drives with lots of movies on them and didn't want to do adaptors and so on. Worth knowing (and not sure you found this) that it really didn't want to boot from the SATA drives, but booted fine from the M.2 drive. This was using Lubuntu.

your videos have such strange feeling to them, as if they're something from the past, feels very nice to watch, keep doing the good work!
@PCartCast Says:
hello, i'm thinking in purchasing an asrock N100M (the atx versions of this mobo) and both are passively cooled. I was wandering is the passive cooler enought for the job?
@AmyJinkerson-d1f Says:
You are better than Techmoan he is so selfish and I remember you responding to a question I had in your comments keep on doing great videos 1 question have you ever reviewed regular servers they are great thanks Christopher
@neolithnomad Says:
Thank you for this video Chris, it inspired me to build my own version inside a Victorian coal box https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SIbT7g1yWDU
@sandwich-plays Says:
n100 is genuinely so cheap for it’s performance
@TheMM360 Says:
Does anybody know a way to add optical out to this board? Can any of those internal connectors manage digital audio? I guess not, but since everything seems to have 20 different functions this day...
@Autotrope Says:
Why isn't silent computing more popular? Are there communities of silent computing enthusiasts like me on the internet, without any people saying "but at low rpm you hardly hear it" and things like that😅
@CEG3RD Says:
Wonder if you wound up regretting only installing 8 gigs of ram? This is low for a N100.
@jazzyniko Says:
Hi everyone! Can that CPU draw more than 6W by default, or do I need to configure something in the BIOS for that? I'm planning to do some HD-to-SD transcoding (2 streams max), so I'll probably need more CPU power.
@DoyleShadduck Says:
I run Damn Small Linux on most of my mini itx builds because they cut down all the packages so it can run on older machines.
@e79905 Says:
Great video. Thanks for teaching me about the potential bios backdoor. Definitely gonna check if mine has it.
@AshnSilvercorp Says:
Been trying to use this with Fedora 41 for a few days and I keep getting crashes within 10 minutes. I keep hearing word that a parallel product Asrock made, the N100M has similar crashing related to memory issues. Is anyone encountering a similar issue?

아.. 아답타를 쓰면 GPU 파워 연결이 ...
@brumm3653 Says:
The major drawback (for me) in this board is the lack of DVI video port which was found in earlier ASRock ITX mainboards (like J5040-ITX or J3455-ITX or Q1900-ITX). I normally use two monitors and here we have only one *digital* video output (HDMI). I wish they included a DVI or DisplayPort connector as well.
@SourojitBh Says:
This is awesome!
@Sajgoniarz Says:
Pretty disappointing for a NAS. Only one RJ45 port, not even 2,5Gb and only 2 SATA.
@MrMesospheric Says:
The video and its associated videos, together with the latest moronic MS developments, that finally pushed me 100% over to Linux. Years of practice with Linux now means I am entirely comfortable, helped by these videos, with dumping MS for good. Thanks Chris; the very definition of useful, reliable YT content.
@HeavenSevenWorld Says:
I wonder what you would say if you discovered Mac Mini M4-based one day – ultra-small, four times faster per core, probably eight times faster in general, inexpensive and totally silent as well ;)
@RockyRacoon-lw3yd Says:
Could this setup run Blue Iris?
@JazzTechie Says:
I think that particular N100 motherboard beats that rockchip board due to its pcie slots, ability to run a discrete GPU, and x86 compatibility with GPU drivers.
@si4632 Says:
Putting any type of linux on it should be a criminal offence
@leonidd00 Says:
very interesting. I had an idea to do the same couple of months ago, but I was 10 years away from the pc topics and bought at the end a laptop, but I love the idea of silent and fast small pc with linux for dayli usage. Thanks for the video!
@stefanp4258 Says:
I saw an N95 mini-pc on amazon, with windows 11, for about 149€. It has also SSD and RAM included, and a 12V power supply, and HDMI cable.
@2010Edgars Says:
Stupid asrock engineers with this vga and ps/2 connectors. WHY?????
@doomer37 Says:
I still use a Celeron J4005, would you say the N100 is worth the upgrade?
@RWLN508D Says:
maybe you can try to run Office 2002/XP under wine 🍷
@AlanBram Says:
If the N100 is normally limited to 16GB RAM, as you say, how/why is it that here we can fit 32GB?
@danielpicassomunoz2752 Says:
Looks nice for a home server, with enough ram, many containers
@rypin Says:
all link for those component plz i mean for increase good legal but not low chinese budget component
@briankleinschmidt3664 Says:
I was curious about the temps. How is the passive cooling doing?
@HaydonRyan Says:
Love silent computers!
@DAVIDGREGORYKERR Says:
You will need the Noctua Cooling Fan to prevent the unit from crashing.
@DAVIDGREGORYKERR Says:
Or a POS (Point Of Sale) unit that fits on the back of a Monitor and accepts a receipt printer, Barcode Scanner and Bankcard reader and requires the OS and POS software.
@RiadAhmed-ce6qo Says:
why they can not made a slide through motherboard for laptop like caddy.
@KrissyD-px9gj Says:
Its a shame none of these n100 options are available in Canada
@mikecp7394 Says:
Hi can this run 32bit scanner canon d646 that i adore with xp window amulator. Thanks,
@therealjackfisher Says:
Looks cute. Looking at the test, Linux mint, docs and stuff like that, make me doub about the performance/cost rating. These small computers should be more affordable, as they are mostly DIY small home hobby projects and not some big enterprise solutions. Anyways I found something very interesting. Something for enthusiast and something that will save some serious money. When I compare it to stuff bought from store shelf I have no doub that this is actually a win win project in every way. I found Bananna BPI R-4 router board. There is also alu case for it and antennas I think come seperately. This might be the best home router on the planet. A router so cool it changes the way I see routers, and its cheaper then all of the "hi end" gaming routers but at the same time much better. Now, I am not trying to advertise, just sharing some cool ideas for enthusiasts, so we can build something that is actually better and cheaper at the same time.
@TornTech1 Says:
whats going on with that super wonky component on the left hand side behind the Serial Port with 1.05 written on it... look like it didn't solder properly!? visible @5:31

Hi Christopher, seeking for some NVMe for some M.2 NanoPC-T6 computers, I stumbled upon the Transcend 220S series (Gen3 - CAUTION : this is only valid for M.2 NVMe), they do not pulverize speed tests, however their TBW is awesome : 2200 TBW per TB with a 5 years warranty - my £0.015966906
@LiLBitsDK Says:
What version of office is that, that you run on this cute little machine? and how have it been treating you for the last 4 months?
@kalfaxplays7899 Says:
very good video. very informative :) subscribed.
@robertj1138 Says:
I really like this project as it matches with a similar idea i had for building switching over my NAS. I probably would have put a fan in there because I am paranoid, but it is nicely done. Thank you for sharing.
@si4632 Says:
It will work with a 12v brick
@viktorszabo4467 Says:
Well i think the PSU is bad choice! Its better when you use a bronze typ normal silent PSU, (Seasonic Power supply ATX24 350W/80+ Bronze/) the power consumption will lower -10W or less, and you didnt hear anything!
@danielq250 Says:
Hi Christopher, how do you install the win 98 install you have on this and Word also? Do you have a video on these ? Where can i get the files etc ? Many thanks 😊
@Arachnoid_of_the_underverse Says:
Nice little system and totally silent too.
@protocetid Says:
Is there a reason no YouTuber covers SBCs with new Atom chips? There are some ultra low power Atoms out there that make me curious about how they would perform in a small and cheap handheld PC. I don't know enough about computers to determine performance just by looking at the specs.
@LucS0042 Says:
PS2 port, parallel port headers, serial port, VGA port.... Feels like a blast from the past.... But with a modern cpu. Great video!
@hananas2 Says:
I personally do have a weak spot for passively cooled PCs, I find it very unfortunate that my graphics card has coil whine which means I can't use it passively cooled because due to the power consumption I'd have to keep it in an open air bench if I'm not using fans.
