I purchased thr orange pi 5 pro, but no matter how I download there software they never download completely. I am trying to build an android sbc for interfacing a thermal camera to the works on android. I wish orange pi would do like raspberry pi and sell preloaded SD cards.

Why can't Lattie Panda bring out a SBC using the A10-7850k AND 64GB

I'm really interested in the Luckfox Core3576. Rockchip's new RK3576 seems pretty exciting from a perf/W standpoint.
@djtxxxy Says:
wow you’ve bought loads of these little things! you could probably make a small dog kennel out of them all by now!!!

Very curious to see the review of the Radxa Orion O6 once it will start shipping! Expecially compared with snapdragon x since they should be kind of in the same level and the radxa will start shipping even before the snapdragon x mini pc just announced at CES will enter the market in april at the earliest

Your channel is highly appreciated, thank you! But maybe, just maybe, you want to reconsider and update your intro sound?
@grege9862 Says:
Thanks for the eval. The only board here I really liked was the Radxa Zero 3w. The others were mostly Pi wannabes. Unless there is a very specific use case, I have to say that I really don't find any of these boards to be very compelling as compared to the Pi5 (based on cost, features and supportability). Additionally, the real spoilers in today's market are the cheap Intel-based mini SBCs which have so much value for the money right out of the box.

Dear Chris my laptop stoped working. As such I like to replace it with a sbc and my 15,6" portable monitor. Can you please recommend which sbc and linux will be good for my use case, My requirements are: 1080p 60 HDMI, USB -C power input, wifi and bluethooth (for the keyboard), an on and off switch, and noiseless please. Most of my time I am working with google docs, here and there some internet research and a youtube videos. That's all that is needed. So as software I simply need chrome and a filemanager for handling downloads, as I don't know how to save pdf's directly into google drive.

Hey Chris, just finished watching the video. What a great ending to the year and awesome recommendations. A bit of a suggestion, i have been on the lookout for an SBC for AI hobbies. The best i found was the Nvidia Jetson series but they are very (understandably) expensive. I also found that mainstream sbc vendors started to integrate NPU in their SoCs for this specific purpose. In your video there was one with a 4 TFLOP NPU. Banana Pi5 has 6 TFLOP NPU. So, for my suggestion, i think its high time you followed the trend and highlighted the AI capabilities of these systems. Maybe even a list of the best NPU equipped SBCs of the year. Much appreciated and happy new year to you and your family.

I'm so excited to see all the SBCs for 2025😊
@mrsrhardy Says:
Its just cheaoer to buy a N100 NUC from aliexpress with 16gb & nVme ready or even with an 256/512 than the RADX!
@jorgennorberg7113 Says:
A lot of RACXA boards. You neglected completely Raspberry Pi 5.
@DivisionStreetDrums Says:
The Orange Pi 5 Max sucks, it is so finicky to get a os on the board it's not worth it. Rpi5 is much better
@robertroigsantamaria Says:
I would like to see ... or rather find a direct recomendation for the cheappest way to get a computer that can run netflix. small low power silent and low price.
@reverend11-dmeow89 Says:
Which of these MCU is most apt for controlling this? TCD3070-CH 128x128* USB Multi-format Audio Interface w/ the built-in ARM, which most likely has plenty of work on its own. Thanks

Please feature Odroid H4+ and H4 ultra. The available information on them is rather confusing and sometimes feels even conflicting.

do any of these have avi output? i love using my crt for retro games
@user-zn1db9fe5w Says:
we need powerfull and cheap riscv not x86 board with ecosystem.
@tedt4720 Says:
I don't know how he presents so flawless but alas he always does. You did three other things very well. 1. Point out the most affordable x86 single board computer 2. You pointed a list of Ubuntu images which can fully unleash the power of RockChip; limited to kernel 6.1 though. 3. You mentioned RISC making a bit of comeback. But my friend ITX does not belong in the single board computer discussion. Call me a purist, no your the purist ( I thought). You should have instead put the cheapest raspberry size 3588 rockchip SBC as your #2 from that rockchip ubuntu list. I am also a fan of hardkernel products and hope they release M2S.

Nice video ❤❤❤
@boudivv Says:
What is according to you the best current hardware/OS/Browser combo to set up a stand-alone Browser-driven multimedia experience. I don’t want Chrome TV nor Apple TV. Just a screen with a browser on an SBC and a wireless multimedia keyboard. Able to play HD video streaming and maybe even 4K video streaming.
@rxmas7234 Says:
Another great video! Thanks for this list.
@merthyr1831 Says:
ARM has really stagnated this year for SBCs. My Rpi4B should be much further behind the competition but ARM's prohibitory licensing has limited the ability of newer and faster CPU cores to enter the SBC market. I hope RISC-V improves things!
@pentamaerospace6014 Says:
You missed these two champions - OrangePi 5 Plus and FriendlyElec CM3588 Plus... both available up to 32GB DDR4, dual 2.5GbE, dual full size HDMI output, and both running RK3588 ARM cpu
@naturebc Says:
I bought one of those intel nucs and added 32 g of ram and 512 ssd for a software project. So far love it. Thunderbolt is really cats ass.

@jaksmith6465 Says:
if a board has m.2 but its pcie2.0 and has a usb3.0 port. would you not be better running it off of a usb storage than an m.2 ssd?
@andrewfalconbridge2744 Says:
I really like the Radxa X4. Nice informative video again Chris. Looking forward to your 2025 videos.
@nope-2244 Says:
This guy has a very classic look and way of explaining.
@prehistoricBanana Says:
Great and informative video as always, Anne Robinson. I love your passion for SBCs and hope to shop for one soon.
@CaptainDangeax Says:
The radxa rock5 itx would be the goto for a FreeBSD + ZFS NAS, with a power requirement far lower than an old PC Core2 or so
@thomasbrothers7199 Says:
.Chris: Love all of ur vids. Can't wait until Sunday morning here in CA, USA for the next video. May I suggest a video on the tools you use in your toolbelt, such as conducting benchmarks, disk speeds, I/O, CPU stress tests, temp., etc. I get confused/overloaded by all the options, but if anybody can sort it out, it would be you! Thanks from all million + subscribers

This is brilliant!. I've just started planning a cyberdeck, and I'm going to binge here to see what I can learn.
@TopRacer2002 Says:
For someone that is not very good with programming are any of these as easy to use as the raspberry pi please?
@cyrillebournival2328 Says:
4th gen core i5 computers down to 30$ and ITX isnt that much bigger after all.
@asan1050 Says:
Thank you!
@ChrisJackson-js8rd Says:
i like sbc's and i like risc-v, but i have reservations about recommending anything so fresh to market for nas use i suppose it depends on the use case for the nas, but for me the features i desire in a nas all relate to longterm reliability, error rate, common failure modes, and ease of data recovery should things go bad (as they inevitably do given a long enough time horizon) on the other hand, sometimes you just want a local mirror to serve up files locally, in which it's a different matter entirely but I am quite certain that given the product lifecycle in this market there is absolutely zero qualification done on the part of the vendors, and historically even vendors who do oodles of qualification have ended up bringing horribly flawed products to market

I wonder when Raspberry Pi start going after people again who are using “Pi” in their product names?
@thefanboy3285 Says:
Mr Explainer, can you do or do you have a video about defining interfaces and form factors ? Sometimes I get these two mixed up and I really don't know what's what. A video about very basic technical vocabulary would be nice.
@naturetech9983 Says:
I love radxa X2l with Celeron, since im looking for something for PFsense\OpnSense..but it's missing the second LAN. I'd love to see some board designed for this, being rewieved by you! Thanks Sir!
@Yenkna_PCs Says:
Chris, unexpectedly a 2 GB Raspberry Pi 5 was released. I own one and it's my webserver.
@LuenWarneke Says:
I don't know much about the differences between the SBCs but I bought an Odroid M2 and happy with it. A bit more power than the Raspberry Pi 5 for high-performance applications.
@ewenchan1239 Says:
It's somewhat unfortunate that the the Price/(Performance*Watt (idle)) ratio, the N100 boards/SBCs/systems are still priced > $100 USD. There are more cost efficient solutions, but they also start at > $200 USD. Bummer.
