Why would you install audio drivers first? Always install chipset to avoid any issues. I did this once and had mouse sensitivity issues for a long time. Lesson learnt

So what I gather from the beginning of this video, is that a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor plugged into the motherboard will all instantly operate. This will than allow the USB thumb-drive to be plugged in and download the OS software. Yes?

This is what I was thinking about, for getting a new build computer built and how to install windows and drivers afterwards, as this is the information that is missing on new build.

HI Christopher, I have a lack of internet problem, no choice of Ethernet or Wireless icons to select. Having built two new computers following your how to build a computer for £500 video though not adhering to the £500. The first Computer Gigabyte B850 Gaming X WIFI6 Motherboard, Ryzen 5 8600G CPU, 32gb Corsair Ram, WD 1TB NVMe SN680 SSD, powered by MSI A850GL PSU. The second build Gigabyte X870 AORUS Elite Wifi7, Ryzen 7 8700G CPU, 32gb Corsair Ram, WD 1TB NVMe SN680 SSD, powered by MSI A850GL PSU. Successfully updated both Motherboards to latest Bios. Installed Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1 on each which I though had gone ok. However, it wasn’t until I Installed Linux to the second build I realised I had a Problem, I couldn’t connect to the internet either via the network or Wi-Fi. Then I realised in the bottom RH corner of the screen I was never given the choice to select Wired or Wireless. Then I realised on the first build I was only given the choice of Wireless. I have read that this could be due to the Kernels, again the first one been working ok but has Kernels 6.8.0-63 (using) and up to 6.11.0-29 whereas the second computer has 6.8.0-51 yet both were from the same USB stick and same ISO. I have also read that Linux Mint Cinnamon 22.1 does not apply the choice of the Wired Ethernet. You only get Wireless. Could you do a video on how to resolve getting a Wired Ethernet choice, as well as resolving not getting a choice of either the Wired Ethernet or the Wireless connection due to no Icon for either as with my second build. From my deliberations I now believe it is an apparently common Linux Realtek Driver Problem can you produce a video to overcome this or have you done so some where?

On that note about updating your BIOS (or not doing so, rather), I would like to mention my own experience where my motherboard died shortly afterwards and I wanted $100 on a replacement with more issues. I cannot be sure if the BIOS update killed it, but I will say, I won't be doing that again. Even if I have issues, I simply do not trust my own expertise enough to feel confident doing so again. This hardware costs too much for me to be toying with it unnecessarily.
@Lucifronz Says:
Using Rufus to create your bootable Win11 installer usb will enable you to pick and choose annoyances like sign-in or hardware requirements. For those who don't want Microsoft bloat and useless spyware like OneDrive. If you are updating an older PC to Win11, you can run the installation media while your PC is active, as using it from boot will force you to wipe your files and data. EDIT: Spoke too fast. Should have known you'd be on top of that. Bravo, Chris.

Christopher, Please advise, having been an avid viewer of your Various Videos with Linux versions and Windows upgrade versions to 11 especially the Virtual box Windows run in Linux.Then watching you build this computer, I decided to build a new one so I could run Linux with windows using the Virtual box. I used Gigabyte B850 Gaming X WIFI6E MB, with Ryzen 5 8600G processor, 32 GB Corsair Ram and a WD 1TB NVMe SN580 SSD with an MSI A850GL PSU. It all fired up ok but unlike yours going straight in to Bios I got the following screen message seemingly from AMI (whoever they are) Which you didn't as I was looking to go in to the BIOS. Version 2.22.1293. Copyright 2024 AMI Model B850 Gaming x WIFI6E Ver: F1 Press to enter setup. New CPU installed, fTPM/PSP NV corrupted or fTM/PSP NV structure changed. Press Y to reset fTPM, if you have BitLocker or encryption enabled, the system will not boot without recover key Press N to keep previous fTPM record and continue system boot, fTMP will not enable in new CPU, you can swap back to old CPU to recover TPM related Keys and date. This took me by surprise as it is totally different to your first switch on with the build you did for this video. Which caused me concern, so I stopped. How can the TMP have been activated when everything is new and this message showed when I switched it on for the first time What do you think, have you come across this warning, Do I just press and hopefully enter the setup phase.

This video is a good demonstration of how building and configuring a PC for Windows from scratch can be a long and tedious process, especially if you don't want to use a Microsoft account, creating a Windows PC seems not a "plug and play" process for beginners, there are a ton of reboots during installation, a lot of technical configuration steps, download software/drivers steps. It would be interesting if Christopher can make a video for building a desktop Linux PC, people will see that the process is more accessible and faster, the only difficult part is to select PC components that are compatible with Linux (drivers), the main advantage with Linux is that you almost don't need to download and install manually drivers, if components are "Linux compatible" then all drivers will be already in the linux kernel, and if you really need to install something then the package manager of the Linux distro will make this very easy to do (if we compare to Windows process).

I have never seen Microsoft shoving down so many ads during the install because I have always used Rufus to cut the bs out and create a local account. I was honestly surprised about how many ads there were. As always, another great video by EC
@Z098 Says:
Update the bios if there is a newer version, there are security updates in the bios. So if you only update when you have an issue there is a possibility that you are leaving a major security issue. Which is why the industry has changed to update to the newest bios unless there is an issue caused by the update. Also you aren't going to brick most modern motherboards, since they have way to update the bios even if you can't get to the bios settings.
@Zaryn10 Says:
I wish Microsoft would buzz of and stop monopolising us. If Steam worked 100% on Linux Mint I would change over in a nano second. Thanks for another great video, Chris. I wish I had known about the local account workaround before I built my new PC a couple of years ago.

Thanks for pointing out the Auto Driver Installer on ASRock motherboards. I rebooted my PC into the BIOS and turned that off as soon as you mentioned. Maybe it's not an issue on my PC since I've only ever used Linux on this PC, but I also don't want things installed without my knowing.

Hi Chris, love the video. very informative. There are a couple of things reading the comments i would like to add Generally when updating the GPU drivers (AMD / NVidia) i would go the the newest WHQL Recommended option. Unless you have an issue which is detailed in the readme files, the WHQL versions generally are much more trouble free. Not Win 11 related but has come up in the comments below...regarding AMD mem speeds, ALWAYS check the MD manual or website before buying components, usually its where you download the drivers there is usually a cpu and memory compatibility section, its worth a read, might save you hours of trouble.... The other good place can be AMD's own site a quick search for AMD 5500GT for example under connectivety shows the different mem speeds supported by that chip with diff mem options "Max Memory Speed 2x1R, DDR4-3200 - 2x2R, DDR4-3200 - 4x1R DDR4-2933 - 4x2R DDR4-2667. So in this case even if your mb has higher speeds, and your ram is say 3600mhz, these are the RECOMMENDED safe speeds for that particular chip. Always start safe, and overclock carefully at your own risk.... Sorry if i haven't phrased the above well, but i hope it helps. Also I've recently encountered an install which vexxed me for quite a few hours. I was asked by a friend to build a new system so they could move from a 12yrs old pc running windows 10 to a more modern system on 11.I went with A520M MB - 5500GT cpu - 2x8gb 3200mhz, Win 11, fully updated etc. I re-installed all their programs, and docs/pics/vids, etc... all seemed ok - however they had a lot of camcorder footage which was in a mt2s (from memory) format. Now these files had woeked perfectly under Win 7 and 10, but on a clean Win11 install failed with an error (unfortunatey can't remeber it) and once you cleared the error the vid would play, but with no sound. As far as i can tell MS have removed the Dob;yDigital drivers needs. If you do an insitu Win11 upgrade the drivers remain on your system but on new installs you dont get them. Trawling their site only gave broken links and no answers. Subsequent "googling" sent me down a very scary rabbit hole suggesting downloads in some cases from personal gdrives. I'd love to know if you come across this problem (in my case only aplied to .mts2 vid files) if you can post a ligit solutions. I never found one and had to use my friends exisiting Win 10 install (along with years of crap) and do in situ update simply so they still had audio - not ideal for a new PC build. Any help appreciated. Thanks ps (I believe many people on other sites / forums are having the same issues i think its more related on Dolby format than .mts2 but am not sure)
