Hello from the ReactOS team! Thank you for another insightful dive into ReactOS, Christopher! We're thrilled to see your video already reaching 200K views - though given the quality of your review and narration, this success comes as no surprise! We wanted to share that we haven't been sitting idle since your last coverage. Our next version (not released yet), 0.4.16, has been in active development for 11 months now and already includes over 1,690 individual changes and improvements. Some key enhancements include but not limited to PNG icon support, gradient color fill fixes, resolved hanging issues with Lazarus-compiled programs, and proper bitmap rendering in various applications instead of those pesky black boxes. With each change, we're seeing noticeable improvements in both usability and stability. We really encourage everyone to download the latest version (of nightly builds) and test it with each new release to experience these improvements firsthand! We're looking forward to celebrating 1 million views on this video and sharing our next major release with the community. Can't wait to see what you'll cover in your next episode! Keep up the fantastic work! 🚀

So basically you can run a small office with ReactOS, nice!

Its weakness lies in drivers

I just installed react os 0.4.15 on a samsung nc10 with 2GB ram. It does work however I'll need to install some drivers. It only uses 90MB of memory!

What I love about VirtualBox I can test weird operating systems.

Will it bring back the superior windows XP file management including film strip view that can view Image files, PDFs and others BELOW the preview pane, I would pay $ 10,000 for a modern version of XP in 2026 ( so I could finally get off my 18-year-old machine and continue to get work done!!!!!!

How does this OS react on a new pc, manily the software designed for new pc, for instance the downloading and installion of "STEAM" and the ability to play games.

I hadn't heard about React OS in a long time and had forgotten about it. I think it is a very cool undertaking! I have a couple of old Windows XP software CDs that I would love to use again. I plan on some day trying React OS via VIrtualBox on my Linux Nobara ThinkCentre Desktop computer! Once again, thanks for a great video! EC! :)

I would love to see this project get more funding! With the way Windows has been going we truly need a Windows replacement that works with previous and current Windows software

I feel nostalgic about the start menu. In reality it's probably most like the old nt(4.0 or something). But it reminds me of windows 95 and 98. I've heard that Microsoft has gone completely mad with win 11. Was wondering if this is useful. It seems quite limited
@keithyakouboff8755 Says:
Hello there EC, can this operating system run DOS programs? Does it have a DOS layer? I am in particular curious about 3DS Studio R4 for DOS.
@expierreiment Says:
But can it run Doom?
@tascavestory Says:
can it run on pcem what is the minimum requirements for the os and can it play x86_64 windows games
@RENO_K Says:
I would so love reactOS 10 If I was a multi millionaire I'll happily donate $1M
@AbuelitoMunchnutz Says:
Still viewing a bunch of ReactOS videos at the moment, but theoretically this OS wouldn't need true Windows' "Compatibility mode" but did they include a similer function in React for things like 16bit games & software?. My main use for it is still to run it as a replacement WinME machine with tons of older Simtel archives software (so others can learn computing like I did with all the important lessons included).
@Szederp Says:
Impressive. Nice video. Unfortunately people tend to forget about the most important thing: can it run Doom?
@FolkFusionStudio Says:
Thanks for the great video and thanks to the ReactOS team. That OS came as a complete surprise. I immediately thought of installing the Netscape browser in that environment. Really nostalgic and great material. Thank you very much.

Thanks for this. I didn't know about this os but as i still have an old 32 bit netbook, i wonder if this would run more smoothly and faster than windows 10, currently in place? I only use that Netbook for basic stuff like writing text docs when travelling so bells and whistles not needed.
@paulcumber4732 Says:
can you run reactos on raspberry pi
@urichaplin1424 Says:
This version is looks like Win98, the next release after 30 years will be like WinXP !
@ELDS-Church Says:
Office XP I still use that on Windows 10 with limited success it took me several days to find the docx compatibility layer

This is the first time I've seen any application running on React OS; that's progress I guess.

@DannyDaDane Says:
If the games folder had Pinball in it I would have lost my cool.
@PIasmaZombie Says:
the LAN and WLAN dont work so it can't download the needed drivers. it's a bit pitty because it looks like it boots quick and apps load fast.
@mainorramirez6610 Says:
Awesome. I am a Linux guy, and I use it on business for a living everyday. Everybody is saying Windows is garbage, but everybody wants a Windows (like) GUI OS on their systems! If Linux become as popular as Windows is, they will face same and even worse general issues that they criticized in Windows today. Same happened to iOS today. Good look if you want to force things on this.
@mel_arquiza Says:
A brilliantly way to never neglect what truly works and make the job done. I truly admire program softwares simplicity. ReactOS was truly remarkable to run old softwares programs. Hoping for no much more softwares updates as needed. Thank you for sharing. ❤❤❤👍👍👍😊😊😊
@johnterry8958 Says:
When they get a 64 bit version and get beyond alpha, that will be useful and impressive.
@atifzaidi8198 Says:
if i install React Os Latest nightly or this build on my Asus AMD C-60 laptop will it support all USB drives and portable hard drives normally like windows? will it allow me to use firefox and media player classic or VLC? my usage is not typical just internet surfing and also what lightest free Anti Virus will react os support when i go online with this os?
@wintercrash1961 Says:
Hi chris, one thing I want to point out is a problem with balena etcher that's when some iso and windows based images are burned they don't boot or give some error in loading process. I think even on balena website somewhere it is written that you should use rufus or other tool for windows based iso. I hope this will help. Other than that great video.

official beta will be this coming 2090.. can't wait....
@KnutBluetooth Says:
Although a lot of people don't get it because they can only envision a home computer use case for an OS, once the memory manager is fully working it can start being used seriously with extremely expensive scientific and industrial hardware that never had Linux drivers or to run Windows only server software in a virtual machine. Windows XP is still being used right now in factories, a more secure replacement would save a lot of money.
@sinisterpisces Says:
Great video. I've been aware of ReactOS for about half my life (yikes!), but I'd kind of forgotten about it for a while. It's great to see that it's still under active development and relatively stable (as long as it gets to live isolated inside a VM). I noticed that it installed Direct3D and other drivers. I wonder how well this would work in a VM to run old Win 9x games. :P Or: Load up mIRC, a gopher client, Internet Explorer pointed at FrogFind, and an ancient Usenet newsreader for the authentic 1990s Nerdy Internet Experience. ;) I'll have to see if I can install it in Proxmox. I suspect that installing it directly into its own VM might cause some driver issues with my PCIe passthrough'd GPU. I think it worked so well in the video because you were running it inside Ubuntu, which was handling talking to the real graphics card. So I'd probably end up with an Ubuntu VM running VirtualBox running ReactOS. I guess I had to learn about nested virtualization sometime. :P

Incredible project Great video 👍 Kindest regards, friends
@ffayaz007 Says:
Great Achievement guys....... I am pretty confident you guys will fix some of the issues and make this great OS fully functional in the future.
@dftfire Says:
When ReactOS first-started, and wanted to be a free-replacement for Windows 98 and later I think the goal became 2000 or XP, it made-sense. But this amount of time on? If you're a business, and have an old piece of industrial machinery that only has software or a driver for 2000 or XP, just use 2000 or XP on a PC not connected to any network. If you want to retro-game on an old PC, use 98 SE or 2000. Licence keys are easily found online, and Microsoft don't care as they don't sell it now, and you can't run modern apps on it. Or either just run Linux and use WINE, or on either Linux or macOS, use a virtual-machine and install 98 SE or 2000 inside it. I honestly struggle to see the use-case for ReactOS versus any-other option? 🤷🏻‍♂️
