Hi Chris, Cheers on the CinePI V2 build! I really like the solutions you came up with for assembling / rigging you camera. Appreciate the showcase of the CinePI Project as a whole. Lots more on the near horizon for CinePI, stay tuned.

Looks great! Can you please write the model of your external Orico enclosure? Thanks!

did you ever update this ???

Wow, amazing! Can i use this application to volcano monitoring?

Hello! I have a question: how do I install the software on the Raspberry Pi? I've never used a Raspberry Pi before, but I want to build this project. I have a Pi 4B and a microSD card, but I don't know how to install the software. Are there any good YouTube videos on this?
@johnylitalo4163 Says:
What if you did an animation camera?
@solosolipsist Says:
Was there any issue recording in 24fps 4k RAW? The documentation I've seen has said the Pi HQ camera is limited to 10fps when recording 12-bit RAW video...
@clark4813 Says:
Too poor for an arri? Buy a pi!

Lauterbach macht aber auch alles.

Hi Chris, I’ve really enjoyed watching some of your videos on utilising the Pi computer which I’ve only recently discovered. However, given the extremely high quality cameras on smart phones these days not to mention the tiny form factor, why would anyone want to build and use a CinePi camera which seems so bulky and cumbersome? If the Pi computer boards are all about the advantages of miniaturisation, the CinePi would seem to be a huge disadvantage. But maybe I’m missing something?
@thehobbyjet Says:
Does the CinePi also record audio? I don't see any facility for that.
@marinamarinski2227 Says:
Can't wait for 1 inch sensors to be available. Sooo many beautiful16mm camera lenses out there collecting dust.

Great demonstration of the power of single-board computers!

is it possible to make this as a webcam and send it wirelessly through a USB over wifi connection to you PC?

Excellent video!
Ive just started working on a project to build my own camera , would you know if there are larger sensors available?
@akfreed6949 Says:
Do you think a Kodak 16 mm movie camera case shape with a pistol grip possible ? That would be cool . Even cooler with a zoom in/out lever .
@iplayfhorn Says:
I believe that since the camera has a C mount, you would be able to use vintage lenses from an 8mm movie camera.
@d4rk_gh0stt Says:
Good evening! Excellent content. Could you tell me a way to turn a Raspberry Pi Zero 2W into a camera, including a shortcut to open the camera software on the desktop for easier access to the camera software?
@XDeathman Says:
Could you put the links to all the parts in the description..?

Ive been following CinePi from the start and its been amazing seeing how far it has come. I have always wanted to use one for youtube videos, so it may be time for me to upgrade the original CinePi I made with the original details way back in the day ... thanks for the review

This is a fanastic project! I'm a cinematographer from way back but I love the new tech. New to Pi and super excited to get building some cool projects. My local film coop has a room full of old cine cameras that use the c mounts (Bolex, Bell and Howell). but I never was a fan of the quality of the lenses we had. The exceptions like the Switars were amazing. Recent news is the availability of a c-mount to EF / EF-S Lens Controller & Adapter for Raspberry Pi and it can control lens autofocus with hackable code. Now this would be an interesting rig. Perhaps this little setup would be a potential youtube video.... ;)
@420.chronic Says:
has anyone tried this with a pi 3?
@Tufet. Says:
I have an orange pi 5 ultra, can i use an imx 989?
@teaCupkk Says:
Too bad image quality is unimpressive. I've been keeping an eye out for years now for a comparable, M43 or APSC sensor, to go with better lenses. Would love a DIY camera to finally replace all the junky and/or expensive multitude of webcam, security cam, mirrorless photo/video, drone, microscope, dashcam, etc, etc.. Pretty sure anyone releasing such a camera board would be making a killing. 4K30p video from a larger sensor, not encoded/downsampled into oblivion, at a decent price. Am I the only one drooling at the thought of it?

Hi! Could a phone be used as a display?
@j_t_ Says:
Hey Chris! I'm also finishing up my CinePi build and I'm having an issue with the SSD. I noticed that when you first plug yours in, it shows 0GB of available space — I'm having the exact same problem! When I try to format it, nothing happens. But later in the video, your SSD gets recognized properly — how did you fix it? Thanks so much, hope to hear from you soon! 🙏

For those who prefer a video camera half-baked, there is coming the AltCineCam EVE to receive your Rapsberry Pi 5, or the Elite 16 complete ready to go and with a MFT mount instead of C-Mount. Work in progress... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=luHuodlczpM

@wojciechsosenko5172 Says:
The image from this camera looks terrible, but in my opinion, this is due to incorrect processing in DaVinci software. I’m convinced it can be significantly improved. If you’re up for it, try going to the Camera RAW tab and switch the settings from Rec709 to Blackmagic Design, check Highlight Recovery, and set highlights to -100. Adjust exposure, contrast, saturation, etc. I know CDNG files are huge, but if you could share a few seconds-long clips, I could try to bring out the best in them. Best regards :)
@timgoodliffe Says:
what do people think is the theoretical limit quality that cinepi could handle?
@altrogeruvah Says:
That's a wonderful project! I have a Raspberry Pi 4 8GB sitting in my storage box doing nothing after not having much long-term success using it as a TV media center via SD card, I suppose turning it into a CinePi rig could give it a new purpose in life!
@JasonBurchell76 Says:
The quality of the footage from your diy cinematography rig is really impressive. As I watched and saw that there’s really, very little to the setup- it could be used to bring life back to old cameras that may have met a tragic end or at least severe deceleration trauma. Imagine what could be jammed inside an old Sony VX2000 housing (shell) .
Or, it would be a great way to augment all of the proprietary tech camera drones with quality recording capabilities ( not just an insta360), Anx those with the vision could probably make it look pretty shit hot.
Excellent topic and video!! Thanks for Sharing
@cyberteque Says:
do you have any tips for getting sound to sync up?
@RothmanHarv Says:
Really glad you did this project! It's one I've been very curious about. If you get the chance, try some vintage lenses for 16mm film cameras on it. There's wider lenses there, and often quite cheap. Perhaps not too 'ExplainingComputers' related, but possibly for the 'Christopher Barnatt' channel.
Well done. I ordered the parts begin a CinePi project. I have one question for you. This will save me some time. Will the code as written work on a Raspberry Pi 5?. If not, I will use a Pi 4 and spend some time after the build to see if I can make it run on a Pi 5. Thank you.
@Adamroable Says:
Would you get better specs using an orange pie five? I think one of the versions has two channels of four-lane mipi.
@NeoLords2010 Says:
Hi Chris,ARE THERE OTHER BETTER COMPATIBLE SENSORS?
@photobusta Says:
What’s the largest sensor you can get?
@JeffGeerling Says:
Stanley the knife got quite a workout this build! Exciting to see you play with CinePi. I hope to build my own little CinePi camera this year too!
@Mizai Says:
would be nice if there was a enclosure for everything that could make for a nice package
