Im running Zorin OS, i have zero complaints. Im gonna try Pop! OS next

Gentoo
@ExtaTer Says:
My main concern with Linux is 1. drivers, 2. how to fix when the installation breaks without reinstalling from scratch or opening terminals. Windows has a wide support for drivers, there are "restore points" and "recovery console" so it lasts me 10+ years. Linux gets screwed up every 6 months and I don't want to install everything for scratch twice per year.
@derekbambenek7803 Says:
This is very helpful. I don't think I need to reiterate how *bad* microslop has gotten. Ugh!
Being hesitant to tamper with things they are just beginning to understand; you can imagine my gratitude!
@no-comments111 Says:
save the headache. choose bazzite.
@Stuartnobi Says:
I use linux mint when I used linux for the first time, and now I'm on cachyos
@jeffreyjohnson1874 Says:
My first was Slackware back in 1993, then windoz, then Suse, now Fedora. My first OS was Tandy on a model 1. My first Unix was Coherent then Xenix then MacOs. Now MacOs and Fedora.
@JFB-Haninge Says:
May I suggest Kubuntu.. succesfully migrated from Windows 11, now 5 months, never looking back..
@HaserfKioplb Says:
This was exactly what I needed, thanks!

I'm currently in the process of switching to Linux. I'm sick of microslop. For my first Linux distro. I went with gentoo.
I want to understand Linux cuz I never want to use Microsoft again. Done with them and they're shit products. Once great company turn into trash
@harag9 Says:
Great video - do you cover anything about Bazzite ? I mainly use windows for gaming, but sick of it and would like to switch, been told Bazzite is good but know nothing about the other side.
@izzy7269 Says:
Thanks so much for this video! As a n00b, I was looking for largely unbiased information just like this so I could make a comparison
@fabricio4794 Says:
i did only four smart choices from Debian,Linux Mint,Ubuntu,Zorin to Fedora,no Arch BS
@DanielOrtegoUSA Says:
As usual, your videos are the most informative, with a cadence that a newbie can really appreciate.
@andrewwelch5282 Says:
What happens when support expires, do you have to install a new Linux version and reinstall apps?
@quinnreiswig79 Says:
Apologizing in advance
Which Distro is the best for a guy who has many Steam games. Im searching for file compression under Steam savegame data and possible transfer pof larger files
@darky_1nl Says:
I think ZorinOS is the best distro for beginners, it have nice design. Linux Mint is also good choice but not Ubuntu, it's sometimes to hard
@Maxinidas Says:
I was thinking mint because I'm familiar with windows but Ubuntu is kinda reminding me of android. I could work with that!
@richardlang3460 Says:
So let's say, for sake of argument, I, a Mac user having no Linux experience, switch to Mint and use Libre Office, amass a large collection of documents, photos, applications, etc., and then, 6 or 7 years from now, Mint ceases development and I need to 'jump ship' to Ubuntu, Fedora of what-have-you. So I just install that 'over' my Mint computer, and my files and app.s remain in place, like upgrading to a new version of Mac OS or Windows? Or does this involve erasing the main drive after moving my files and ap.s to a different drive, installing the new Linux OS and migrating my old files to it?
@gregquan5647 Says:
The question rather is why would you use Linux? You can't cut and paste from your phone to your laptop. You can't switch from say your Samsung device to your linux device when using ear pods.
It's just a geeky alternative to Windows. Spend a bit more and buy a Mac and an iPhone and Earbuds. Unless you you want to spend hours messaging around, only to find you're still using an early 2000's piece of technology that doesn't sync with your other devices then go for it.
@MrArcanjoGabriel Says:
Pop_os. I changed 1 week ago.
@jessezamoragametime Says:
I'm not sure I'd put Fedora in the same lot as Arch. I'm no programmer, more a general user and gamer, and the absolute last thing I'd call Fedora is an elitist system.
@TeamBlack00 Says:
Just FYI, the G in Gnome is silent
@AlexMuseMatrix Says:
Linux Users: "MINT IS BETTER MINT IS BETTER THAN YOUR STUPID ARCH!" "NO ARCH IS BETTER!"
Windows Users: "Windows 11 sucks." "Agreed."
@boing615 Says:
Fantastic presentation, I've sat through a few 'beginners guides' that had seizure inducing graphics, fast, cycling text on screen and a machine gun delivery style loaded with lots of technical terms, they left me more confused than informed. This is exactly what I was looking for, calm, informative, simplified, left me much more relaxed about trying this.
@nailil5722 Says:
As much as I love Linux Mint, Ubuntu and Kubuntu are probably the way to go for a complete beginner. Linux mint is an obvious replacement for Windows, while Ubuntu/Kubuntu feel like an actual upgrade to Windows these days
@Ryoko53027 Says:
i'm going to be making the move from windows 10.
im having trouble deciding between Mint and Pop.
i use my pc for gaming(steam), Youtube and other streaming services, Music (spotify and local mp3/4's, and discord, though im looking into teamspeak.
i am in need of suggestions or votes even xD
@darrin2382 Says:
Spoiler: The answer is Mint :P
@TheTimeLapseKing76 Says:
So many other distros, Ubuntu studio for creative people, bluestar, Garuda for a nice arch based user friendly distribution.

@gtablurt5791 Says:
It is a good thing that we can ask Grok for example when we run problems using Linux because it is fast and effective compared to joining forums and waiting for an answer or searching for an answer using the browser search box.
@biotrekker Says:
I just installed Linux Mint 22.3 on a 2011 27-inch iMAC because I wasn't about to switch out the NVDIA GPU that has issues with OpenCore Legacy Patcher. It was one of the easiest OS installs I ever experienced. Everything worked out of the box and it runs fine.
@wellingtoncrescent2480 Says:
A very good breakdown, which persuaded me to install Linux Mint Xfce on an old (mid-2012) MacBook Pro, basically restoring to life an unsupported but robust laptop (they were built like tanks in those days :). Since I last tried Linux a decade ago, I think the on-line support has come a long way, and even though I am dismayed by the direction of AI on the internet, AI summaries are proving very useful for troubleshooting when I ask for a bullet-point summary.

A question that I have concerns windows touch screen capable laptops. Specifically I have a HP laptop/tablet that runs windows and does not have the ability to update to the newer versions of windows. I have used Debian in the past on older laptops without touch screens and it served well. However I would like to maintain the touchscreen capability on this device. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
@johnjacobjinglehimerschmid3555 Says:
Is there a LINUX version that is optimized to run windows programs. I'm looking to buy a laptop and maybe a small desktop and I want to get away from windows ... but I love the EXCEL spreadsheet and Access DBase. Personally, these are key to how or what I'm going to do.
@richardvennel9679 Says:
Do Slackware next!
@wobble108 Says:
great video, thank you. I just wish there wasn't so much choice. I feel the devs are missing a great opportunity to get all their heads together and design 2 or 3 OS platforms with longevity to throw into the lions den for users to escape Windows. you have Gamers, beginners, designers ect windows
has it all.
@matttorrence2900 Says:
Hey man, question for you… Until recently I was on windows and I was starting to learn how to code in a few different languages… Then I switched to Linux mint… And now I don’t know how to use the coding programs and the IDEs
@pinecone7618 Says:
If you are the kind of person who already has some experience with computers, I personally would recommend checking out EndeavourOS with KDE Plasma! It's Arch based, but it is mostly pre-setup for you and I find it to be less restrictive than Cachy's defaults. While I have had a handful of issues as a daily driver for the past year, all were expressly my own fault. If you are willing to do a bit of learning and want to experience Arch but don't want to dive in the deep end, it may be for you!
@EdwinCastro-x2x Says:
Thanks for the information about making the decision to switch to Linux but my laptop 💻 still ran into a problem 😭
@NANTHAN-i2v Says:
My first Linux distro was Ubuntu back in 2019. I didn’t even choose it myself — I got a free laptop from a government school scheme, and it came with both Windows 10 and Ubuntu pre-installed.
At first I mostly used Windows, but over time I started exploring Ubuntu and got interested in Linux. For beginners like me, Ubuntu (and Mint too) makes things much easier compared to something like Arch.

@PramodhKnox Says:
I returned to Linux Mint because of its excellent compatibility with older hardware and out-of-the-box multimedia and printer support. However, I do have to make some compromises on the user interface. I really miss Solus KDE Plasma.
@pepechill8118 Says:
went arch for first one. mistake have been made this day. im not one of them...
