10:45 about your idea of using generated AI content based on yourself. DJ ware great veteran linux channel is getting bad coments about its usage, he explained that it was in the behalf of his voice damaged by smoking
@davidtritsch9613 Says:
Although I have my laptop for computing in any part of the house I also have a desktop that I use for serious personal computing i.e. bills, taxes, etc. I like this arrangement.

Great video but is it possible for you to m ake a video on how to install Kodi on linux Mint 22.2 Thanks
@glebedigital4654 Says:
On A.I and future channel content, I think many folk would appreciate ideas on how to opt out of the coming future. I worked in 3D GFX for 35 years (mainly Lightwave) for the two largest design agencies in the world (and then a successful freelance career), until A.I laid waste to the entire sector post-covid. I.T infrastructure embedded with A.I tools are not for everyone, and many people don't seem to realise there's a way to opt out of this invasive encroachment.

I like the implementation of AI in basic computing and I think it will be more and more indispensable soon.

Newby here. I have been given an early birthday present of a raspberry pi 5 and have found your channel. It is amazing! I have followed the video to install multiple OS on an sd card; very easy to follow and am going to attempt to connect my very old but still usable Canon LBP2900 printer. I love to reuse and repurpose and to keep tech out of e-waste and landfill. I have also been trying to link up the pi to my 2018 iPad pro without much success. I don’t suppose you have any hints and tips of how to do that? Anyway enough chat, again many thanks for superb easy to follow videos. i look forward to many hours of information and entertainment.
@Raphtor13 Says:
I just started doing a bunch of Raspberry Pi projects and have seen a bunch of your old videos and I guess you don't cover that any more but I would love to see some more Raspi and other SBC project videos along with mini PC Linux videos.
@JohnMcRae-dx4zr Says:
Linux is the answer to avoiding Microsoft madness which will only get worse. I have windows computers but this one is a imac 27 with Mint loaded on it and I am loving this. Relearning what I forgot about linux especially terminal. I have a linux terminal bible from about 07, do I need to get a newer one? I used Kubuntu back then and I am slowly getting skills back. Thumbs up for your content.
@dcc1165 Says:
THANK YOU for NOT putting mid-roll ads in your videos. One main reason I stick with your channel over others. Mid-roll ads interrupt the flow of the video and it's quite a nuisance..and the placement of them literally sucks. They often times show up in the middle of a sentence and not in any logical "stopping point" in the dialog. For example, "Consider this image. Look closely and you see.......". This puts me on the fast-track to hitting the unsubscribe button ;).
@chrisbennett6012 Says:
You're a self empowering personality Chris, absolutely love your ability to keep it relatable and understandable. After a chronic midlife crisis including cancer and an NDE, SBC's in particularly AI assisted driving, autonomous vehicles seem like such a stupid waste of an idea when so many blind people in the world could really use, as I see it lol a cyberpunk AI guide dog instead. I'm a realist and former mental mechanic so this is all new to me, but for the last two year's when stuck in my research of a portable companion, you have supplied the knowledge each time I've been completely discombobulated by today's tech. If I had someone like you in my corner on my project, well as Isaiah 42:16 says, we would make the blind see already lol. How would you make a portable cheap AI companion "a real time responder"? Please keep up the fantastic work, I'm going back to watch some more as I've admittedly been absent myself for a couple months, from everyone, not just you lol God Bless you and yours
@mwd5001 Says:
Great video, as always. I still like desktops so I'd welcome the videos, your AI videos sound good too, especially the digital Chris.
@NordicSnowhammer Says:
Mint convert thanks to you. Also, I'm a VM junkie now. Kinda your fault. Running Windows 10, 11, Zorin, Ubuntu, and Pop!_OS. Dunno why but it is fun to be in a Windows VM setting. Feels like running around your house in your underwear for some reason. Also....I dunno why. I need a hobby.
@madfinntech Says:

@willdatsun Says:
absolutely hate everything AI with a passion. computers should go bleep bloop and not pretend to be human
@kaedeshirtoto Says:
I've finally shedded windows. The games I like to play run fine in Linux Mint and I use MacOS for work. Loving the Linux feeling of freedom!!!
@voodoovinny7125 Says:
I understand that there is always a push for newer and "better", but I do not understand the push for everything to go toward nano pc's. Then again, I do not understand making GPU's bigger and pc cases smaller just like I don't understand going from >4x interal 3.5" hard drives to 1 (or in a lot of cases today, none) along with the external optical drive bays from >3 to 2 and then maybe 1 with most these days having none. Of course, Windows we see an alienation with every single new Windows which Windows 11 making the most dramatic by making tens of millions of computers e-waste. Linux too seems to have been doing the same but they have been doing it quieter. Of course with Linux, it is more acceptable to run older distro and kernel versions than it is acceptable to run older versions of Windows in forums. But the real question is how many channels are going to focus on uses for the e-waste especially since the corporations are throwing money and new gadgets to the reviewers who are merely being advertisements instead of actual reviewers.
@WilliamShinal Says:
I've been leaning a little more towards my Orange Pi PC (hoping to throw my Le Potato in with a good power supply) regarding just using a PC, but yes, I do still need my big PC for video editing, VR and gaming. Consequently, I'm stuck on Windows for it, but I can still use Shotcut (which I see as tried and true) and other good FOSS software. I used to use my laptop for most things while distro-hopping, eventually landing on Bunsenlabs Linux. Right now, I run Armbian minimal with LXDE installed. Regarding AI, I echo those concerns exactly. Keep doing what you do, highlighting pros and cons as they come along.
@OPlus66 Says:
PoP OS is my favorite linux distro
@paulwary Says:
Your channel will continue to do well. It’s almost impossible now to find content that is not AI slop on YT. I wasted more time looking for recent review of POPOS than it took to install it and see for myself.

I want to make an AI me that answers the phone. If it s a politician or a salesperson, the AI has to keep asking repetitive questions asking whether they will buy or vote from/for me 😂
@kiwi1fruit Says:
As a mid 80's guy who started with computers about 45 years ago I've seen many changes. The main problem I see with Desktop computers now is that they take up a lot of room. What I liked about them, and I still have 3 running fine, is the ease of repair or parts replacement. But the laptop computers have now become so reliable and powerful that I think that desktop computers will become rare and be used only by super gamers. Likely the companies will stop producing boards for them. I think the end of Desktop is here now as is me, at my age!

Chris, It's hard to believe the new devices and computing powers and prices in 2025 Beautiful new large smartphones Chris at like 25 pounds.... TCL 501 If you know about "VR BOX" headsets.... At like 5 bucks wrapped together with the above smartphone you can get astonishing computing gaming experiences....at 60 inches...... All at fractions of cost.... Oceans of free powerful apps Chris.... Which area really useful ..

Many people are sick of hearing about AI. I'm sick of hearing that people are sick of hearing about AI. There's a lot about the anti-AI argument that's perfomative, done for the sake of likes and social kudos online. I'd like to see you do what I suspect you want to do, and give AI the wholehearted coverage it deserves.
@ivandj707 Says:
AI It looks like progress and improvement, but it's not good, it's a deception.
@flatlander523 Says:
I want flexibility in my computer. I have used a desktop since TRS80 and will check out of this world falling on my keyboard. I have a laptop but do all my work on desktop. Just finished building new desktop with 7 different ways to install storage (gigabyte Z790 wifi mb). Keep doing upgrade videos and OS videos, more on Linux. I mainly do YT watching. Want to do more basic video editing. Shop drawings on ShetchUp. Love your videos because you do your research and you are not a used car salesman with a YT channel as a side hustle. 😀
@patrickcecil1229 Says:
This again shows the great quality you bring to the community of computer users. All three of the topics you mentioned makes me think about how I have changed the way I use computers. I used to have a large tower computer which I used for PC gaming, but I find I prefer the games that have lower video requirements than cutting edge games so now I just use a MacBook Pro for gaming. Great because it uses much less space in my small house. For Linux I now use a Frameworks laptop which is wonderful for its adaptability and upgrade options. So I no longer have a tower and only run Windows in a VM. But I still really enjoy your desktop hardware videos because it shows us where the state of that part of the computer world is going. AI is really interesting and I share your concerns about generative AI and hope that boundaries are set for this usage. The raspberry Pi is wonderful and I have about three of them running constantly as temperature sensors around the house. A little tiny card that can put up a webpage! See what you showed us! My wife rolls her eyes but she sees I enjoy the tiny computers.
@stuarthiggins9161 Says:
I’ve always had desktop PC’s but I’m now preferring powerful but affordable laptops, due to space and portability. I don’t like the way MS is ‘forcing’ people to upgrade to W11 and buy new h\w so I’m considering a new laptop without OS to run Linux. (I may end up using my current laptop for this and buckle to get a new W11 laptop.) After all these years and the wide innovation of the 80’s and 90’s we seem to be stuck with very little choice. I graduated in computing in 1988 and there is very little now that is truly new. Re AI I’d prefer not to have it in every tool or application, but instead as something you can knowingly choose via a web page. When in every tool it slows down the workflow and reduces productivity. How much of this is actually data sweeping and harvesting by the big boys ? Great channel and interesting perspectives on changes and trends.
@DevilTravels Says:
Computers: I'd like to see expansions of mini computers. (more memory, better graphics, dual storage options, etc). Gamer PCs seem to be a niche market, not a general function market. Although, the PI computer automation projects are interesting. AI: I see AI as an useful on-demand tool for creation and assistance, but not as a full time nanny. I wouldn't mind having a built-in AI on my PC to analyze something when I need that feature such as improving proposals, charts, music, lyrics, videos, etc, that I have begun creating. A second pair of eyes, as such.
@lencumbow Says:
I would love to see you do some videos on how to host and use AI locally.
@RaynaldJadoul Says:
Thank you Christopher. I like the contents of your channels, website, and books. As pointed out by others, keeping such a quality over time is quite commendable. An idea for a set of 2-3 videos (without overstepping what is done elsewhere): I've noticed that more and more people try to host their "own" little AI at home (to remain in control of their data) but not so many know how to prepare a "craddle" (e.g. a Linux machine, one or two affordable GPUs, proper RAM and NVMe, an ollama/litellm/mcpm + OpenWebUI OWUI) where it can slowly/safely grow with what it is fed (e.g. RAGs via OWUI bound to directories holding meaningful documents), so it can answer questions, make suggestions... and, as people learn how to tinker with it (i.e. adding/creating new MCP services), take control of the vacuum cleaner (before and after a little party), of the sunshades (to protect the plants), and whatnot. There are videos here and there on YT trying to cover some of those aspects. True enough. But they are too brutally complex and leck the mandatory touch of pedagogy without which non-specialists will carry on after the 30 first seconds. Please, jeep up the great work.
@kanrup5199 Says:
If there is a possibility for smaller PC tower unit to connect to another few small parts via cable (distributed resources from the old tower box) I might be interested in that. Like mix and match what you network, connect together, and extend your small resources network for your computer system.
@kanrup5199 Says:
Linux : how can linux crowdfund and gather money. How can linux gather developers and work hours for software development projects. Linux suffers from fragmentation into distros, and since its not corporate companies, it is not well funded software development and support. How can Linux develop its community, e.g- have a distro specific chatroom or video-game space lobby, an advanced discussion and project/effort pooling meeting place (more than old fashioned forums).
@kanrup5199 Says:
AI : how to have dedicated personal computer based AI entity or entities (not online AI), like a personal maximum privacy and security therapist, friend or advisor. How to maximize the data, make it accurate and choose what data to include. How to make the AI personality mask healthy, sane minded and safe etc.

I revisited Ubuntu last month while rebooting an old PC. It had been some years. To some degree I was disappointed by the lack of popular app support, but I only had a brief look. The rest looks pretty good for support these days, for someone starting out on a computer, I wonder how a fresh experience with something like Ubuntu over Windows 11 would be? I am sure my Ubuntu install over 10 years back with Compiz and the rotating transparent cuboid desktop looked a little more refined, that could be my imagination. But the key issue is just app support, it seems and I could be wrong, but the major streaming platforms such as Netflix, Disney, Amazon etc for entertainment, do not stream movies or series in 4k over Linux. Support and media streaming was a big part of why I dropped Ubuntu and Apple software and stuck with PC when W7 was released. I may have to look at Jellyfin or Plex or MovieSquare and see if it is worthwhile revisiting and rebuilding a movie and music media library on Ubuntu, and have had a brief look at music apps that can show album art and such, my old Windows players lost support with Windows 10, with W7 I had the whole MyMovies as a modified Windows Media Server, with modified media player for flack, hi res and MP3, and with W10 changes to Windows Media, these libraries became partially dormant. Streaming 4k movies and music online filled the gap somewhat, but a lot of the library was not available to stream. Many PC gamers are already moving over to Linux due to Steam support, I am hopeful there will be even more support for Linux in future, but as people were complaining about apps like Netflix not supporting Linux streaming hi res content back in 2016 I have doubts we will ever see a fully polished alternative to Windows PC or Mac. Windows 10 support ending and the forceful push to change hardware has no doubt pushed more to Linux, but it's still less intuitive. I certainly want to give Linux a go again this year, though not sure if dual boot is worthwhile if I want to build a media/archive/gaming system. But file syncing between multiple devices as can be done with Android/Google/Microsoft seems a little more convuluted and refined with Linux too? This and the lack of 4k streaming via online platforms is a little off putting.

I found an another alternative to After Effects called "Friction" which is a free and open-source alternative worth to check out. It's available as an AppImage (for all Linux distributions) and as universal tarball but should be available on Flathub since there's a support for Flatpaks.

How does A1 spell Gnome with a GAnome or with a silent "G"
@dippydot Says:
I think a lot depends on whether you’re a gamer or an applications user. I’m both so I have a Windows 11 Pro PC for gaming and intend using my old PC with Linux Mint for applications. I say intending because, as you, finding the software to do what you want in Linux isn’t always that simple. I use Family Historian for my genealogy research but it doesn’t run natively in Linux so I’m trying it running in Wine. Seems to work well. I use Libre Office so that’s fine too. I keep looking for alternative solutions and it always seems a compromise. As you say, chicken and egg.

My Problem is for any AI that is not running on your home system - People are becoming dependent on outside computing; Facebook, X, Youtube etc and probably for the first time in history; people are building important things like transportation, communications, electronics of most types, - all with chips; chips they can't create replacements of or repair. In the past if a company went out of business or there was a war you could copy parts; get along; now you can't. Bad idea.

@obligatory-handle-SnowAngel Says:
I like your videos, they have been helpful in my transition to linux mint. I subscribed at the start of this video bc of your ethics about paid content, but then i got to the part about AI and my heart sank, bc while u call generative AI detrimental to the human condition, u then seem to talk about gen ai as something u wanna keep tinkering with. So while u call it bad, this will apparently not stop u from using it, and i find this stance disappointing. Its an abstract evil, but evil nonetheless, and i hope u wont keep on using gen ai. Unsubscribing again bc of this.
@3040-f9g Says:
Thanks Chris for your excellent content. Regarding AI, I can see that it has many benefits for scientific advances, but think that it's only fair that my permission is explicitly sought before using my data for this purpose, and not just assumed. Suffice to say, I choose my open source tools very carefully.
