Wished I would have watched this vid before I had problems yesterday. Grok helped me out and go me thru. One question, why dos the sudo hdparm line come back and say sudo: hdparm: command not found? I would love to test mine, but not sure why it’s not accepting the command? Great vid! 👍
@dantealighieri5119 Says:
I can't run the command for speed checks? It seems " sudo: hdparm: command not found", apparently. Any ideas??

Is gen 3 the max? Just tried a 2280 form factor it didn't fit 2 different types of hats, is that because it was gen 4 and most hats are gen 3?
@rafaelaprende Says:
Can you unplug the hatdrive while you get the micro sd card out and then you plug it again? Is there any problem with that?
@KA4UPW Says:
got it per your recommendation!

I realize this video is a year old. I just picked up a Pi500. Will the Pci Hardware on Bottom fit the 500 configuration?
@goku445 Says:
26€ for a simple adapter? I'll go get that elsewhere.

Thanks for the guide, very helpful. I went from a SATA SSD raspian lite system to the same system on an nvme with the Argon Neo 5 that you've another video showing how to build in (that fan cable..). I didn't need to to the rpi-eeprom-config, seems newer firmware handles nvmes automatically. Didn't need the "nvme" dtparam either in boot/firmware/config.txt. Did put the pciex1_gen=3 param there though. (Cloned the SATA system partitions (/boot and /) with dd to two equal partitions (though the / was twice as large) on the nvme that I created and formatted with fdisk. /etc/fstab on the target / partition needed the new partuuid, so did /boot/firmware/cmdline.txt. I used resize2fs to expand the / filesystem from the 500GB SATA on the 1TB NVME /

I'm a year behind now. Well, I doubt many will respond to a question on a video this dated but I'm going to ask anyway. Starting USB 3 speeds are 5GB/sec. Why did the Nvme drive with the USB adapter run so slowly compared to the HatDrive? PCIe is approx. 1GB/sec per lane. With one lane this PCIe interface should be slower? Is google lying to me? What am I missing here?
@iblden Says:
You need Tony the Tweezers to pull out that microSD

very helpful,thanks

Is it possible to do this configuration on the OS server without a desktop?
@theodorekoussoulis7733 Says:
Do you know where can I find the Pineberry Pi or something similar (for 2280 bottom of pi 5) because the shop seems to be closed
@MrBobWareham Says:
I have stopped watching your channel as it seems I have to be some sort of inner circle to watch your videos, shame I followed you for years, good day.
@JohnnyCarutasu Says:
I tried to get the raspberry pi going with the pineboard board, but I get only the RP green led and fan, no led on the pineboard (double nvme version), and no LEDs going on the ethernet port, I tried to flash on a micro sd card but nothing. I am using the original 27W plug, can anyone help please?
@peterwarren3004 Says:
Hi Chris I'm using twister latest version all went well till I had to do sudo hdparm -t --direct /nvme0n1 sudo hdparm: command not found any idea please ?

Thank ou sooooo much mate!

Any tips for a black screen on reboot after editing the /boot/firmware/config.txt to add the two dtparam lines? I put the SD card in another computer and there's no config.txt file in the rootfs/boot/firmware dir, and the bootfs/config.txt had the added lines, but removing them didn't fix the black screen.
@JibunnoKage-YouTube-Channel Says:
The Pimoni NVME Base Duo seems to be plug and play, at least now it is, I just got one and with the latest Pi OS image, and latest bootloader... both NVME SSDs were seen without tweak of config.txt file.

Can you tell me if possible to start the Raspberry with the turn on the power supply and not like you do at 13:21 turn on the power bottom ? Why is because I want to use the system as a NAS located at another room and i only want to turn on the system once a week to take backup of my data and if I need to restore data, I can control the power supply from my computer room but have no access to the 'on' bottom

Excellent Video. Thanks for tutorials on how to connect harddrive(hat drive) , configs, drive speedtest, and swap boot from sd card to harddrive(hat drive). Remove ssd and make hatdrive as primary one. Thank you :))

I purchased to Raspberry Pi official top hat from Pi hut and did not have to make any config changes. Also, in passing, Webmin is a great way to admin a Pi. I have it running on all my Linux boxes, including 3 Pis and it is completely free to download, install and use.
@ianhosier4042 Says:
The bottom mounted one is definitely better than one that sits on top but do they sell a case to accommodate the new setup? Nice tutorial and good to know it is there if I ever decide to buy one of these in the future
@Wraith2106 Says:
I don't know why, maybe because i made a new system sd-card, but the config.txt is located at /boot/firmware/config.txt - with the ekstra "firmware" added.... Another thing i would like to ask you about is the "app" you use for testing the speed, i get an error about it not being present in /dev/. and lastly.... thanks for this awesome video, it made it really easy to install the nvme drive.

Great video. ;)

Hi Chris, could you please do a video regarding the best nvme for the pi5? The crucial p3 plus is dramless which when running Linux is much more of a hindrance than in windows/mac os where system ram is used. Under most Linux distros the nvme will be forced to use part of its space as dram which goes without saying is very slow. Thus using an nvme on a raspberry pi running Linux we need dram to benefit from the real speeds, having said that we need gen 3 or above and ideally with a heatsink to get the optimum speed of nvme on a pi5. I have ordered a pironman 5 case and I will be ordering my first sbc in the pi5 after Christmas.
@MarkBush-en5cz Says:
Is the Raspberry Pi OS a version of Linux?
@caoimhin71 Says:
Can this Pineberry Pi hat drive bottom be gotten in the USA? Is there one that still allows you to use the official case? I have a Pi 3b and a Pi 5. Ubuntu is all but unusable with a micro SD card. I want to use an SSD.
@farishanafiah8461 Says:
The fact that this goes below the board instead of the top makes this my instant favourite. I think this and Geekworm X1002 are the only M.2 SSD HAT that goes below the board.
@gregben Says:
Thanks Christopher, the quality of your presentation and videography is unmatched. It really helps people like me to be able to see everything up close and presented at a steady pace.
@incubatork Says:
On the SD card once you load the raspberry pi 64 OS one of the files is a config.txt, can you not put the dtparam lines in that directly befoe booting from the SD? TIA

what about PCIe 4?

Great video as usual! Is there a case that will fit this setup using the HAT Bottom?
@WR3ND Says:
This reminds me a lot of the DOS days and adding in the bits in the autoexec.bat file or whatever it was to get CD-ROM drives working. What a joy that the kids get to experience these days! :D Cheers.
@USBMEDICMalcolmScole Says:
Can ya use top an bottom together.. Yu boys should get a room (virtual).2x drives better than one.
@jamiegossett Says:
try setting it to 4 lane and pciex 4 just to see what happens.
@themydnighthour Says:
Dude, wish u were here. Been messing around with the stupid Argon Neo case all day trying to get it running. I'm going to try this instead of their instructions and hope for the best.
@Pic-vic-Spooling Says:
Hi Chris Iv been watching all SBCS since the first pi. (Particularly your videos). Iv recently built a very expensive powerful pc which I thought will be my last build as everything is going SBC. I now think I will go SBC earlier than I thought. If i just need to do basic things I might aswell use an SBC. Thank-you for doing this addition to your pi5 video as its what i was actually looking for to have an nvme drive. I would quite like to see open suse kde running on a pi5 with nvme. I want to run it as an efficient pc and potentially (if I like it) a mini server. Thanks Chris.
@n6iap Says:
Thank you so very much for all your work. You are very helpful in understanding and implementing.
@MMH94MMH Says:
Thanks for this Video, does this module fits into the official case?
@chidioko Says:
I am just so happy that this channel has the recognition it deserves at over a million subs. Here’s to TEN MILLION subscribers!!! My main issue with this attachment, though, is that it is incompatible with fine cases like the ones from Anidees.

Did Raspberry Pi update with their own M.2 nvme HAT drive?
@nathanielescudero5379 Says:
Great video! Clear and thorough instructions! Keep up the good work.
@michaelspooren9213 Says:
I found the config.txt in /boot/Firmware. Unfortunately the commands didn't work on the Argon Neo 5 case. I only see the sd card (booting from). I have changed the ssd to a P3 Plus an it works! Excellent help, your Videos! 😀
@k9slover Says:
Very good video, clear and well explained. One part that was particularly helpful was the close up of the PCIe receptacle and the small cover. When I was trying to lift the small black cover up, it came off altogether and I needed a close up of how it went back on. But very helpful.
@amandioreal2293 Says:
