All he was saying was that things you’ve been through in life made you who you are today

At 3:17.00 Tom's body language changed. Tom changed the topic because Robert found something in Tom that almost got him to cry. A self realization. What I'm guessing is Tom didn't have the best relationship with his mother. What Tom may not realize is Robert realized Tom was using the art of distraction to move on. You can read people without even talking to them. I had to learn this because of my father.

it's that American culture, that's the lack of God. The desire to squeeze out everything they can from life, drain it to the last drop of juice. That's what makes ppl miserable. Relax, let it go as it is. Live the experience. you are here not to fulfill your ego's ambitious. God doesn't care about your ego. You're here to live through different experiences, especially hard and challenging ones. But of course good and pleasant too. There'll be many lives, this one is just one dream. We'll wake up, and there'll be thousands other dreams like that. It's not about what you've achieved, it's about what person you've been.
@bigbang259 Says:
it's astonishing how unhappy and miserable our egos can makes us. That even rich and successful ppl can put into this trap, and not be satisfied of themselves, thinking they have smt special to do in this life, be smt they are not. It's all about our egos playing games with us. It wants to be smthing special, smt unique. Even if everything is relatively fine it is not satisfied with what things are. It always want either more or smt else. That is the reason why ppl are not satisfied with who they are. It's not about what we've achieved and not achieved. It's about our ego not being put into its place. A place of a silent servant. We allow are egos to steer our lives. That's the real issue.

I totally changed my life and my career in my mid fifties, and that was only a stepping stone to something more. Having said that, it is a resolution of something I've wanted since my teens. I totally disagree with Robert. More challenges to come.

Damn bro please stop reuploading old vids I was excited af that you spoke to robert again :(
@brownies2001 Says:
Interesting debate at 45:20, Robert emphasizing that genetics and upbringing is influential on how see yourself on valuable and purpose. Whereas the the podcaster believes that we are total control of our destiny and life’s trajectory. I agree with Robert. genetics and upbringing is hard for people to separate from their identity.
@gs2tab Says:
Good interview, except for when Tom speaks.
@rfreeze Says:
To Tom’s point where he says “people aren’t *meant* to do something”. I would say 1) Not *everyone* is necessarily “meant” to do something - however some are. Like, Lebron James. He was meant to play basketball. This was a specific gift and he has used it to have an impact on and off the court (his haters not withstanding). The same can be said for all kinds of other gifts that people have in any number of facets. 2) Others may not be as gifted at anything as Lebron is at basketball - but they are at least “good” at things and have particular interests. Those are the factors that should guide them in finding out what to do with their lives - rather than following money, what other people suggest, etc.

I love listening to you however I think you stereotype 50 plus… you usually empower others - I find those comments a bit limiting. I have made many mistakes and am hoing it’s not to late to correct my course and follow a new path. In spite of some cards I was unfortunately dealt as I was in my 50s - it has been tempting to give up as I have been forced to find a new passion… and I’m embracing new career helping others…in some ways my old career has helped me with personal skills that help in this new journey.

@xmanhall360 Says:
1:01:00 GWAD Dam.. I am going through this right now. Only after hearing his, let’s not do this unless it means something fail. Do I understand why his wife and my wife won’t me to stop working, while still wanting me to be a success. They want me to make them feel like they are more important than my work. While I think, the reason I work so hard is because I want to be a success for them. I’m bastardising the principles and way over simplifying the situation. But yeah i think I learned something.

I love hearing from Robert Greene because he mixes up of lot Asian old philosophical concepts unknowingly with real time explanation. Asian philosophies requires lot of imagination if someone wants to use it recent time... Lot of time we got lost with asian old philosophy because those are not changed in the context of how scienece & technology advanced in last few decades... It is the best time when we can start putting old asian philosophy in recent context to get mental level strength rather keep focusing on materialistic world & chasing materialistic things to get fulfillment which can not be achieved until your mindset is strong enough...
