I guess I’ll never understand why a person would even put themself in a place where an avalanche can occur. 😕

Saying "the best way to not die in an avalanche is to not be in one" has the same energy as "if you don't wanna be eaten by a shark don't go swimming" xd it's beautiful

@HyungnamGu Says:
Initial Movement: An avalanche starts with a slab of snow breaking away and fracturing into smaller blocks and granules.
Frictional Heating & Melting: As the snow cascades down the slope at high speeds, violent collisions and friction between snow grains, and between the snow and the ground, create significant heat. This heat—along with pressure—causes the snow particles to melt slightly, especially in wet snow or lower-elevation avalanches.
Lubrication: The melted water acts as a lubricant, which can actually increase the speed and mobility of the avalanche.
Refreezing & "Concrete": When the avalanche stops, the debris comes to rest. Because the snow is heavily fragmented and mixed with this meltwater, it acts like wet concrete. As the liquid water in the debris refreezes—which happens very quickly—it forms intense ice bonds between the snow grains.

Solution: Go someplace warmer for vacation!

My father, ski patroller in Val Thorens, fell down a cliff and got caught in an avalanche one snowy and windy day while closing a slope. Got rescued by his colleagues with the help of a ratrack, and all, but go pretty scared though...
We also don't put the poles' straps on, so as to have free hands to "swim up" if we get caught.
Btw, the cover image is great

18:00 The shot of him skiing down, stopping, turning and seeing his friend's ski sticking out of the snow before getting ripped away by the avalanche is straight out of a horror movie

Great channel but am a little disappointed you only mention the WWI battle the Domitian Alps briefly-White Friday as it is known was and is a huge brutal battle that little know about... Even the Swedish Metal band @Sabaton who cover many wars and battles throughout history covered this battle in their song "Soldier of Heaven" which chronicles the thousands of soldiers buried in ice and snow who spend eternity up there frozen.

I love this entity. Great job guys.
I made snow on black dug out towers and chairs it’s dig n duck lol circa 98/99 epic snow year so much a volcano south of bc had record snow pack.
I think the snow was so deep bc hydro were concerned about w high power lines could collapse to the Big Island of Vancouver.
They had to remove snow on those towers. Either snowcats not readable. To meeting it by power wash melt lol oh I digress…

We have one of the deadliest seasons this year in europe here.. tyrol released a regional alert on mobiles.. still people go off track when its level 4 of 5. The lower layer is like.. air. Big ice crystals holding nothing together. Even for experts its almost impossible to determine the dangers. Remote triggering is a big thing, too. Stay safe!

I ski in the Haute alps where theRed Bull just took place.
The terrain was secured by blasting but the 58th rider set off an avalanche.
He was saved by his air bag.
It's so difficult to be sure
My wife was caught in one in Italy...we were with a guide...he crossed the couloir first....no problem ...my wife went next and boom...she went.
We got her out in time before a secondary one came down.
Speed is essential.
Thanks for a great vidéo.

The correct answer is, PEOPLE, their the one's that cause the Avalanches not the equipment their using, ski's ,snowboarding, split boarding, snowshoeing

Over 100 avalanche deaths within alps resorts in last 3 months. Is that rare?
Great research!
Many people dont follow the advice for whatever reason, so resorts get closed or severely restricted during times of high risk.

@kimgreerpuchek1140 Says:
Going back to work is not what you would expect from someone who was setting off an avalanche on yourself. Not sure if others have not experienced this same reaction. It may take weeks before you are able to understand how lucky you were when in the middle of the accident.

Along with that inflatable avalanche vest, it would be wise to put a small oxygen bottle in there.
I am a helicopter crewmember and we carry small O2 bottles with us that have a few minutes of oxygen so we can egress. It’s would very similar to being trapped in an avalanche. The bottle would allow a few minutes of survivability and perhaps maybe allow some oxygen to dig one itself out.

I thought you were gonna teach how to read the snow :/
@patrickchase5614 Says:
The Tremper books ('Staying Alive in Avalanche Terrain' and the more technical 'Avalanche Essentials') are amazing, as are his many articles in the specialist journals. This is the first time I've ever heard his origin story as an avalanche researcher though. That was a fascinating interview.

There was actually multiple inbounds avalanches at Whisler Blackcomb about a month ago. I believe ski patrol rescued everyone who was buried so no fatalities ... It happened the day before I was supposed ski there too. They were very careful before reopening the high alpine terrain after that
