My amazing and talented wife Lisa is releasing her new book Radical Confidence, which you can preorder - and get the bonuses she's created for you - at https://www.radicalconfidence.com. When you read this book, Lisa will teach you 10 No-BS Life Lessons to become the hero of your own life and take MASSIVE bold action to achieve your potential! "You can fail in life doing the things you hate, so you might as well take a chance doing what you love." - Jim Carrey When it comes to pursuing your passion, people often think that you need to decide between making a living, and doing what you love. The reality is that not only can you have both, but if you're going to live a life of fulfillment, it's actually necessary to do so. However, that doesn't mean that it will be easy - especially if you're stuck in a dead-end job, or you aren't even sure what else you'd like to do with your life. In today's episode of Impact Theory, you'll get answers to some of the most common questions about transitioning from an unfulfilling career to one that excites you - without sacrificing financial stability in the process. Whether you're suited for entrepreneurship, or would do better as a linchpin in an organization you believe in, you'll be surprised at just how universally applicable the tools and tactics are for getting unstuck and turning your passion into a full-time career. SHOW NOTES: 00:00 | Introduction 00:22 | Overcoming the Fear of Following Your Passion 06:07 | Transitioning From Regular Job to Dream Job 13:56 | Leaving Corporate to Pursue Your Own Business 19:02 | What Tom Would Tell His 20-Year-Old Self 22:55 | Are Humans Wired to be Subservient? QUOTES: 'There is no success big enough that you can stand in that success, and that it will last forever.' [00:52] 'The problem fundamentally is that life is an ever changing rollercoaster of emotion, and the name of the game is to manage those emotions well.' [03:34] 'Because I know that I can always slow down and take a step back, I never get overwhelmed. And because of that, I'm able to keep going and keep performing. But if I just tried to run in the red all the time, then I would stop having fun. I would not want to do it anymore, and I would give up.' [13:26] 'As you figure out what that business is going to be that you're growing, make sure that it's something that you would love doing every day, even if you were failing.' [17:01] 'Don't buy into a narrative that you need to run your own business or that you need to be an entrepreneur or anything like that. What you want to figure out is, where will you love existing? Where can you chase fulfillment the hardest? Where can you engage with your passions most deeply? That's the question.' [25:07] 'If you can't say in a single sentence what really fills your tank, what gives you that energy, what makes you feel alive… if you can't say that in a single sentence, you're in trouble.' [26:42]

Unemployed for many months, with student debt I decided to pursue my dream and started a company because I had already burned all the boats. I have my dream girl (acquired from a tv-show) but she want's to hang out with me and I feel the pressure of no money so I want to work. I have skills but don't like acquiring customers by cold calling. I made a funny advertisement video but got no clients. Luckily I now managed to get a well paying full time job so I can again start giving away film music for youtube videos for free and create opportunities. In team playing games I love to be the supporter/tank. In Role playing games I always acquired different skills to pursue all quests because I love the stories and the reward in the end which make it easier to travel, earn money and do more quests. In one sentence. "If I can make this happen, then I can make that happen. If I can make that happen, then I can make these things happen". "The creative flow of progress which creates possibilities and dopamine". Skills of emotional controll, Film music, acting and film making (psychology).

@imu6085 Says:
dear Tom, love your videos. Want to share a though regarding the example of Steve Wozniac, that he wanted to remain an engineer. in some or many tech companies, those who rise to positions of 'managers' eventually plan and judge the work of engineers. so engineers will have less authority, and of course in some cases they can be fired by their managers if the managers don't find them useful for the managers interest. This is sadly a dark side of staying in a tech role (in many companies i believe). I hope this is not true for all companies, and that good engineers have authority to decide, and are judged by competent bosses in some companies.

Thank you so much Tom. I think the hardest thing IS answering that question. You said it yourself, "if you can't say in a single sentence what really fills your tank, you're in trouble." This IS the question I have the most difficulty with. BUT I also don't journal as much as I should...I love the steve wosniak story. Really good, thanks! I do feel like half of me is fiercely independent and I lean more towards wanting to transform my life...I'll think about it, I'll prioritize reflection. Thank you so much!

Hey man AMAZING. Yo this is great but I have some more aspects that can give some realistic adjustment. Is like you know. About the perspective. BUT to get the perspective yes is true the STRUGGLE. Thats true but you need to get to know whats important. A example is our basic human needs. Like break things down to the basic things getting to know what actually surround you.. WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAt. Thats comletely possible. And then also most important which can be a little hard if you are a spoiled kid. That is TO APPRECIATE AND BE GRATEFUL for actually everything to actually progress. For example is not obvious that I can write this comment from this computer. Is not obvious that I can use electricity all the time. Is not even obvoius that I could write this words... When we see things from there we can see that nothing is for granted. I hundred procent agree with you on those other parts. For example what you say TAKE CARE OF MENTAL HEALTH FIRST. Great man. You are actually the second one I listen a little more on online. Great man. It dosent mean I take my inspiration from you but I listen a little and I think you do a lot of work and problaby much is meaningful. Whatever meaningful is but yes I hope you also think so. Master the camera. And master influencia online. Or at least you reached me in some way. CONGRATULATION. Problaby is not only online but also IRL because of the conversations. You extend the conversation lets say. Roe and Brian and others I don´t know the names but for sure it has become a source of info. HAHA really good exercise for the through muscles haha. JUST MAKE SURE YOU DON`T OVERUSE EM. Jeeeze they are super long all of EM your videos. (After 22min) create for example film is a great artform and camera a great invention especially to deliver a message. Maybe can check some more of your work later.Take care dude. Peace man. Peace. Finally earthclose "jordnära" Rasmus here.

I don't know if you ever get to read these comments Tom, but hoping that at least your team does sometimes.... I haven't dove into your interviews as much lately, just here and there. However, this video in and of itself is A TRULY EPIC ACTIONABLE!!!!! I'm doing a ton of neural reprogramming in a structured program. It's actually working, and quite weird to watch myself change behaviour AND more importantly the underlying subconscious anchors/loops, so that I don't even plan a change right in specific moments for the most part -I just can't help but to act from who I am at present, rather than old programming. -What you are talking about here is exactly the path I'm moving on, and your info reflects hard actionables that the program I'm in mentioned. This talk of yours has helped me get really concrete about next steps and an overall mindset/perception of approach to set myself up for true success from within, regardless of outer outcomes. THANK YOU (and looking fwd to checking out Lisa's book). xo.

This is absolutely one of the most life changing videos I have seen! I could relate to each point made so much, I savored each one of them by rewinding and rewinding to take notes. I felt like Tom was talking directly at me and answering every question I had asked to myself last night. The book by ViKtor Frankl could not have been introduced to me with better timing! It’s not hyperbole to state this video is a real treasure to those in the midst of existential vacuum and could very well propel you into your ideal future, alerting you and helping you circumvent all the heartache people tend to associate with the journey to self discovery and the pursuit of their mission. Thank you, Tom!
