My amazing and talented wife Lisa released her new book Radical Confidence, which you can order - and get the bonuses she's created for you - at https://www.radicalconfidence.com. When you read this book, Lisa will teach you 10 No-BS Life Lessons to become the hero of your own life and take MASSIVE bold action to achieve your potential! Are you feeling you are lacking motivation or are unsure how to achieve your goals? Then head on over to https://unstuck.impacttheory.com. There you can register and get access to a free workshop.Is aging gracefully and being healthy in your old age a goal or something that's nice to hope for with no real expectations? If you search for tips on how to age gracefully, you get tips for how to be more mindful, be more forgiving, stay curious, keep learning, and more. You'll find a few tips around staying physically active, but you don't see a lot of advice (if any) on building muscle, getting in the gym, hitting the weights, and putting your body under stress. Dr. Gabrielle Lyon began her 20+ year career in geriatric medicine and palliative care. In her observations and studies on people in declining physical and mental health she became passionately aware of the missed opportunity in the medical community. Chronic diseases commonly associated with aging such as Alzheimers, cardiac disease, and diabetes, were being studied without addressing the underlying source that's contributing to the problems, deteriorating skeletal muscle. By the end of this episode, if you're not convinced on the power of muscle building you may want to rewatch. Whether you are male or female, 30s, 40s, 50s, 60s, or older, everyone needs to be invested in building muscle tissue to age gracefully and have a better quality of life. Healthy aging isn't just about maintaining mental cognition with a failing body, it's about having quality interactions and the physical ability to stand, walk, and travel without the fear of falling or being dependent on everyone for everything. [56:34] 'When we are older, 30s, 40s, we are now no longer driven by hormones. We are now driven by dietary sensing mechanisms.' [57:27] 'You have to get the foundational piece right up front, and that is high quality training is a non-negotiable, and number two, high quality proteins.' I’ve been watching a lot of Gabriel lately, and looking at this 2 yr old vid. is kind of funny, she’s got the same message, but damn she got hotter! You go girlfriend! I am starting to try to follow the muscle and the protein as much as I can. I’m in the middle of your new book right now.

GREAT TALK !!
@NoK1dding Says:
She differentiated between resistance and weight training. Would like to have heard her explain how they're different in her experience. The internet shows the terms as interchangeable.

Lab grown meat- I don’t think so.
@EdelweisSusie Says:
Nothing annoys me more than a thread of conversation that’s started and not completed: she said at the beginning what she eats for breakfast, then nothing about dinner and tea!!!!! Grrrr. And how does the info in this video relate to Intermittent Fasting which is what (yes, you’ve guessed it) other ‘health experts’ recommend to us as boosting brain power and longevity? My brain is confused now.
@EdelweisSusie Says:
There is literally a video showing underneath this one starring Andrew Huberman called ‘Fasting for fat loss and health’. Totally confused!!

@Dr.GabrielleLyon I had weight loss surgery year's ago. Gastric sleeve. I can't consume 5-6 oz of solid protein in one setting.. any suggestions? I have a very small stomach..
@stevenbaumann5911 Says:
I wish there would be a definitive answer on how Much protein you need. I hear different things all the time. One group says One gram per pound of body weight. Another Says 1 g per pound of lean body mass. If I had to eat 1 g per pound of body weight, that would be very expensive.

That's why I eat mostly lentils and quinoa brown rice or buckwheat mixed with tomatoes mushrooms. I run 3 or 4 days a week and when I'm not running I walk about 3 or 4 miles. I wonder if she's been paid by the meat industry. Animal protein comes with saturated fat which is the problem with it.

@frankdill1370 Says:
She just up the game 50 g of protein per meal that means I have to eat two whole chickens a day Costco here I come.
@frankdill1370 Says:
Imagine if you have to have 30 grams of protein at each meal and you drop that one shrimp and now you're it 29.9 G of protein in her logic you have screwed up. So hilarious woman.
@frankdill1370 Says:
She's doing all this for the last 5 years to feel great before she die I've never heard of you're doing great and then you die. This lady is Bonkers.
@frankdill1370 Says:
Talk about a high maintenance woman I feel sorry for her husband you know expensive protein is and this woman loves protein.
@mickiebarker5691 Says:
At age 65, just learning these things right now, can I turn around a "flat" brain by starting these habits now? I thought I was doing the right thing all these years, but I'm just now learning that all the powdered protein drinks I've done all these years were destroying my health.

So if overweight dont focus on diet and weight loss as your starting point - start building muscle as your starting point. Lift some weights, by your arms over your head ( bottle of water in each hand and bigger bottles as it gets easier) doing 30 reps. Build some muscle and it will reduce fat - look to improve your diet over time but build muscle is the first point and diet change 2nd.

What happens if you fast? Is that good for an elderly person age 74?
@nathanielfuentes5294 Says:
I like her beliefs, but they’re not really rooted in science. At least not science she’s able to convey. It’s a lot of “I witnessed this with dying people” or “I’m not sure why this works, but I do it.” Sadly, she might be really onto something, but a quack selling Alkalized water will sound more authorative than she does.

Spent weeks high in the Andes with the Incas. at 80 plus and 90 plus these people were amazing. Had lunch and dinner numerous days with them. the majority of their diets are plants, not meat. They are not obese and do not work out just a lot of walking like Chinese have been doing for thousands of years too. Diet is the problem and it is showing up in other places globally now that they have a landfill diet (American diet)
@northerncoloradotransparen1454 Says:
Not eating meat is not giving up quality of life!
@northerncoloradotransparen1454 Says:
It is funny how she can claim fake information, news, educational documentaries from a vegan standpoint and how it is wrong? If that is wrong? Then what about the Food industry lies, Ag Industry, and Big Pharma? All of these industries have been feeding lies, fake news, and BS to the public for generations. Same as tobacco industry has done. Some people smoke till they are in their 90's too. Just like eating meat today. Fact is all blue zones are predominately vegetarian, our ancestors were primarily vegetarian, and the science proves animal products mess with your gut biomes and blood chemistry. Sorry, but you are not accounting for all of the land needed to grow animals and animal food. Cows are eating and drinking 100 times what humans do? We need 50 more planets to sustain this further. Meat is not making you strong that is fictitious!
@northerncoloradotransparen1454 Says:
Generally speaking, soybeans are considered a good source of plant-based protein. They contain approximately 36 grams of protein per 100 grams. Soy protein is also considered a complete protein, meaning it provides all the essential amino acids required by the human body.
@northerncoloradotransparen1454 Says:
Eating a vegan lifestyle requires discipline, planning, and commitment. Often times people who quit the vegan life plan is due to the poor diet!
@northerncoloradotransparen1454 Says:
We do not know how much muscle mass we need or should have so eat more meat to gain muscle? Does not make sense to me.
@northerncoloradotransparen1454 Says:
Generally speaking, soybeans are considered a good source of plant-based protein. They contain approximately 36 grams of protein per 100 grams. Soy protein is also considered a complete protein, meaning it provides all the essential amino acids required by the human body. When it comes to meat, the protein content can vary depending on the type and cut. For example, lean beef typically contains around 26 grams of protein per 100 grams, while chicken breast can have about 31 grams of protein per 100 grams. Pork and fish also contain varying amounts of protein. Therefore, in terms of protein density, certain types of meat, such as chicken breast, may have slightly higher protein content per 100 grams compared to soybeans. However, it's important to consider other factors such as fat content, nutrient profile, and personal dietary preferences when choosing protein sources. Please remember that civilizations were consuming Soy for thousands of years before the newly found landfill diet in the West!
