With the abundance of information available there is no shortage of diet camps to choose from. Whether you have decided on being carnivore, vegan, raw vegan, or decided to lovingly follow a plant-based diet to support being more humane to animals, how is your decision impacting your health and the environment? Dave Asprey, 'the father of biohacking' and founder of the Bulletproof diet and Upgrade Labs, has been digging into the research and data determined to live 185 years. He's already reversed his biological age by 11 years and in this episode he's laying out mind-blowing ways to biohack your way to better health with less time and effort in the gym and why following a plant-based, vegan diet may not be as kind and friendly to the planet as we're led to believe. There are many ways to achieve optimal health, the question is which one is best for you? This episode is about covering your bases and knowing what areas are more meaningful for you to look into and consider. Interesting to look up and ask about Dave Asprey using Perplexity Pro - if only to get a highly researched, meta overview of his credibility. And, as I suspected...nah....this is a marketing guy who talks a good talk but is overblown on some points, and not wrong on others...but then not especially nuanced or accurate on their 'findings' either. So as soon as I feel a need to sift for credible info with good clinical support...I'm outta there. And...when someone let's drop about their special new 'coffee...blah blah blah', which they sell....my BS detector hits red alert.

I can’t take you seriously with the dyed hair and mini ponytail. Aging is beautiful, let your hair go gray and lose the mini pony.

Agree with Tom, I went to an old cemetery here in the south a few years ago and counted so many graves that were over 100 years old when they died if they were born in the late 1800s. They didn’t have to put so much effort into “healthy” eating back then. It was real food.

This was a messy interview i didnt like it

One thing will surely raise your anxiety ... obsessing over every morsel of food that goes into your mouth. The problem with guys like Tom's guest here is that they isolate a bunch of alleged factors which sounds sciency but it isn't. Nobody is going to live to be 180 until genuine scientific breakthroughs in a thousand years or so. Enjoy your food, eat sensibly and moderately, and move your body now and then. It ain't rocket science.

I add something to my last comment: I am 83 years old and I have done about exactly the opposite of what they said in the show. I did run marathons I did eat with my grandparents did learn me to eat. In my family all live to an old age and wear healthy there was no social media, with the more I watch it and listen to it, seems to be fake news for people to make money.

I don’t know, but the more I listen to this kind of things, I have the opinion that some things definitely wrong

OK. I personally WOULD NOT want to live to 180 years unless I looked and felt like a 30 year old. Just sayin’

The vast majority of all livestock is in factory farms, where they suffer terribly their entire lives. And to eat meat at current levels, factory farms are necessary because they are far more effective than any other form of livestock farming (eg regenerative farming doesn't scale). Livestock farming also means a MASSIVE amount of crop farming, since that's what the animals eat. Most soy etc is grown for livestock, not for humans. Naturally, since at any point in time, we have about 150 billion livestock animals. Far more than humans, and most eat crop we grow for them — crop that has all those deaths while harvesting etc. Livstock farming is hell for animals.

Chemical AG is good at sucking the carbon out of soil. It creates desert, the farmers go bankrupt, but the system keeps moving to other natural environments to deplete and turn to desert.

Tom, you asked the right questions to make Dave’s book Superhuman understandable. I’m 5 days into a 5 day Coffee/tea/water fast and I’m reading Dave’s book “Fast this way” while fasting. This book really resonates with me, Superhuman was difficult till you asked the right questions, thank you!

Eat meat, eggs, nuts and vegetables.....what's so hard about that? Give up grains, twinkis, pizza, beer, doughnuts, cake, pie and on and on. People want to overthink this until they come up with the answer they want, or they some how figure that all food is toxic. Geez....it really isn't that hard people.

When I went vegan (not junk food vegan, pure whole plant foods) I felt amazing for a month or two and then I hit a terrible wall where I felt horrendously depressed and deeply exhausted. I never felt this before in my life, I felt like something was deeply missing ir wrong in my body and mind. I had to stop. As soon as I stopped I was better. But I also don’t feel great if I eat carnivore or very low care. I truly think every body is different. Do what makes YOU your best and feel your best.

Tom, glad to see you expressing caution about some extraordinary claims here. it keeps you credible! Confession: I'm not that well acquainted with Dave Aspray... I liked some of his earlier stuff, but in this interview, he appears to have fallen prey to some misconceptions about quantum physics. Case in point: the classic misunderstanding of Observer Effect: it doesn't mean "what causes a probability to collapse into a reality is - something has to observe it" like Dave said;. The Observer Effect in a nutshell just means that the TOOLS used to observe something tend to CHANGE the thing being observed (like the way a tire gauge changes the tire pressure a bit by releasing a bit of air in order to measure ). This includes the tools of human observation (our senses and our brain). To a quantum physicist, Observer Effect is linked to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle, which simply states that you can't accurately measure two states of a particle - like speed and location - at the same time. It DOESN'T mean that we are quantum-entangled with someone we are playing a video game with on the other side of the planet. I got caught up in that chicanery (the movie, The Secret, comes to mind) for years and - yes - the Amazing Randi, or CFI in Hollywood, offers a million dollars to anyone who can prove the claims that authors of books about these "miraculous" quantum properties are making. What has been recognized as true in LEGITIMATE quantum physics is borne out in the realm of scientific consensus; most of it is theoretical and evolving, just not in the way pseudoscience likes us to believe. Areas of physics work together like a big Sudoku: doesn't matter how beautifully the numbers work out for one cube or column, they still have to work with ALL the other cubes in the puzzle. Pseudoscience plucks one cube out of the physics-Sudoku and says, "see? the physics say THIS!" But no matter how many "PhD's in quantum physics" these promotors of fringe "physics" have, just saying a thing does not make it so, if it doesn't ultimately work with other known parts of the quantum physics puzzle. Yes, MITOCHONDRIA are ancient bacteria - and like the property of all bacteria known as "quorum sensing", they have antennae-like properties of communicating with others in their "group". The "group" mitochondrial network with inside our bodies is cells, organs, and the organism as a whole. Yes, they are faster in responding to stimuli compared to the human body as a whole, but that's a matter of scale and the fact that time to us looks the way it does, because of our size (a good example being the 5 second rule: by the time we pick up the food after its been on the floor 3 seconds, bacteria have had plenty of time to hop on board and start multiplying). Dave's 4 F theory provides a useful framework for understanding physiologic processes ... but that doesn't mean mitochondria are somehow helping us quantum entangle with another person half way around the world. Scientists may learn fascinating things in decades to come about the range and mechanisms of mitochondria, and that's exciting...but we need to stay realistic about what we know, suspect, hope may be true, and/or simply don't know, or we start conflating and confusing science with fantasy. And if "ski-instructor-turned-physicist" who "has math that's 4% better than standard physics at predicting reality" gives you pause, that's a good sign -- Nassim Haramein is a laughing stock to REAL physicists who know enough about math and science to see the flaws in Haramein's reasoning and lead them to conclude, 'he's just making it up as he goes along'. Physicists don't resist toppling inaccurate paradigms or we wouldn't even have quantum physics as a field of study; but bonafide science builds upon basic principles that have been tested, retested, and reproduced til they became consensus-based.
