Fun fact Trujillo paid off the Dominican Republic's internal debt, including a significant amount of internal bonds, achieving a state of "entirely free of debt. He was the architect of economic growth, infrastructure development for a country that was in crisis. He was a good administrator and ruler for sure but an excellent leader base on the results because a very good comparison of bad leadership is Haiti which also had a dictator 10 times worse and terrible administrator. A good example of that is the examination of jared diamond in his famous book collapse where he compares both countries.

Rafael L. Trujillo was a Dictator that acted like any other Dictator in Latin America , when he took power in 1931 the political situation was a turmoil, he predecessor Horacio Vasquez wanted to extend his presidential period to 6 years instead o 4, Trujillo as a Chief of the Army did not supported him, and sized with the power in a not clear election. From 1863 to 1930 DR has a lot group regional of revels (Caciquez) most of them with political power and money the majority of them were ex army veteran whom fought in previous wars or in the first American occupation 1916 ,so if their demand was not complied they attended to overthrown the president, number one of the main reason Trujillo was so evil with his opponent. On the other hand the Haitian massacre 1937 was the resulted of people crossing the border to robed cattle and other Dominican goods Trujillo met with President Gerald of Haiti 3 times to warned him about it. nothing was done by Haitian authority. Trujillo send the army and they killed a lot people.. I do not excuse Trujillo regime it was brutal but you has to further your investigation and get the facts right.
