Whoah! You missed the Battle of Springfield where Greene fought Gen Knyphausen and held the field. A victory in 1779. I’ve studied Green for 15 years. I believe he was a natural born genius and his moral code matched Washington’s. Very nice presentation. Thank You.

Nathanael is my 5th great grandfather.

Nathaniel Green was not in portrait with George Washington, Von stueben and marquis de Lafayette. Mine was Leonard Baumgardner 1755 1839.

Maj. Gen. George S. Greene, who with his brigade successfully defended Culp's Hill through all three days of the Gettysburg campaign, was second cousin to Nathanel Greene.

Very well done. For the life of me I cannot figure out why several famous Rhode Islanders have not had biographic films made of them. One would be Greene. Another would be Roger Williams, the most influential colonial American in the history of the Americas. And there are the two guys who actually launched the American Revolution - John Brown and Abraham Whipple, of Providence. Together they created the Rhode Island Navy that started fighting the crown's ships as early as 1772, starting with the burning of the HMS Gaspee revenue cutter. There were eight more ships that the Rhode Islanders captured, sank, or burned, all before Lexington and Concord. The whole reason that the king was cracking down on the colonies was because of Rhode Islanders fighting back against unlawful seizure of cargos, and to be truthful, evading taxes that were owed to the crown. I would imagine that the R.I. Navy lost at least as many ships in the naval battles of Narragansett Bay. On a footnote, Greene's widow was an uncredited co-inventor of the cotton gin with Eli Whitney. Lastly, not enough people know how bad it was in the Southern Campaign for the American volunteers. If you read Greene's account of that campaign, he writes about how a third of his army had no clothes and no shoes whatsoever. Yes, a third of his army was fighting naked. Supplies were so sparse in the South, in part because it was a Tory stronghold, that Greene's soldiers were eating tree bark, acorns, insects and making hemlock tree tea for vitamin C. That's a story that needs to be told in vivid detail in a movie. There's good reason why so many places are named after Greene throughout the South.

@TheBleuFairy Says:
No, Simon, no. Eli Whitney did not invent the cotton gin. Yes, he did patent it, but not his idea. That came from a black slave. Since they were not considered full persons- could not obtain a patent. Not the first fraud on that level. Do not even get me started on Shakespeare!!!
