One of the weaknesses of humankind is that we think that if we put our mind into something, we will eventually be satisfied. Frankenstein challenges this idea, as Victor succeeds in his undertaking but never feels success because he realises the horror of what he has achieved. We are disilusioned that we can play God when we are susceptible to be trapped in our own mind, unable to appreciate the obvious beauty of life gifted by God. What a sad and ironic fate, elloquently summised by Victor as he laments that his unchecked passion rendered it impossible for him to change course.
