Our belief in young or old earth doesn't affect our salvation. But it's still an interesting thing to think about as we attempt to learn more about God and His creation. I think there's a lot of things we still do not know, even though we've discovered a lot in the last couple of thousand years, there's still more than enough to discover and I don't believe we will ever discover all of it. Whether it's 6,000, 10,000 or a million years (which I don't believe), I DO think we are putting constraints on what God is capable of and He has not revealed it to us. So I really don't think it's out of the ballpark that the universe could have been sooner than we or science directs us to think.

Shame on you William Craig for promoting that death came before the fall.
@karenb.9199 Says:
Dr. William Lane Craig is so condescending, dismissive, and arrogant, that's it's hard to take him seriously. He's under the impression that people should be shamed and embarrassed into believing what he believes. As if God doesn't have the power to make everything in 6 six days, which he does.
@Psalm1968 Says:
Have the utmost respect for SCM and WLC as fellow believers, but Steve's interpretation of "days" and day 4 is problematic. God did not need the sun, moon, and stars to set the chronological parameters for days. God is the one establishing what the days are. Day four's "signs, seasons, days, and years" are for us. God did not require them to exist prior to His declarations of evening and morning...the first day, the second day, etc.  You might wonder, "How could there be evening and morning without the sun, moon, and stars?" Remember the language of creation is written after the fact, for our sakes. Recall also that there was uncreated light before the sun, moon, and stars, likely referring to Jesus (John 8:12; Col. 1:15-20; Heb. 1-3). There was a beginning and an ending to each day of creation God called "evening" and "morning" which would _later_ be marked by the appearance of lights in the sky, for our benefit. God defines it all. God establishes time just like the rest of the physical creation, ex nihilo. He did not requite the intermediaries of sun, moon, and stars in order to create time or morning and evening. They were created for God's glory, and also so that _we_ could mark times and seasons. It would be odd for God to say that the lights in the sky were for "days and years" if the previous days of creation were not in accordance with the cycles of days we know here on Earth. In fact, that seems to be precisely how God intended them to be understood. Exodus 20:11 "For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day; therefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day and made it holy." Are we to think what God meant here was "For in six undefined periods of time, the LORD made the heavens and the earth..."?  Now, I don't think this gives us an exact age of the earth in making this claim by any means. But I do think it points us toward the fact that Genesis days are literal 24-hour days and that the heavens and earth are probably a lot younger than the secular time scales currently in place. I'm a "younger Earth creationist." That is I believe the heavens and earth are much younger than what we're being told by current scientific paradigms, but I am by no means committed to an exact figure, because, quite frankly, the Bible doesn't give us that number.   Without God, secular models in biology and chemistry NEED a whole lot of time in order for things to grow and develop slowly. Maybe God did it that way, but it does not seem likely, given how radically different from Genesis the current cosmological and abiogenesis models really are.  I don't think anyone should be forced to declare their position on the age question. I don't think either camp should be saying things like Bill has here. I think as Christians we should be free to discuss these things without being shunned by fellow believers, no matter what our positions.

@paradigmbuster Says:
There is a difference between create and make. Create means to form from nothing but make means to transform for service. The 6 days is the making which started when the water that covered the entire earth became shallow enough over the continents to allow the pre existing sun to light the continental serfaces. The earth and universe pre existed the first day. The 6000 years is how long ago the earth was finished, not how long ago the celestial bodies were created.

I'm disappointed in Turek agreeing with this consensus. A high value and respect for Scripture indeed. Read the Bible as it was written and understand the first rule of contextual interpretation, which is: what was being said to the original audience of the day. In other words, what was God communicating to the newly freed Israelites, the original recipients of the book of Genesis? They grew up amongst pagan Egyptian owners and knew nothing of how the world was made. So, God told them exactly in plain detail. Day, Yom, there was evening and morning, a first day (24-hour period). They didn't have to figure it out. They just had to believe God's clear message to them. Like reading a menu at a diner. A hamburger and fries means a hamburger and fries.

I was a fan of WLC even reading "Philosophical Foundations" but I stopped when I heard his support for old age. It goes against the grain of faith in the Bible, I am concerned what this disguised acceptance of naturalism will cause to the faith of my grand children, after all look at all the miracles that Jesus did with an appearance of age: * bread and fishes to feed 5,000, the carbon in those atoms were probably very old, but a crowd will tell you they did not exist 3 minutes ago. * change water into very good wine, probably the taste of a few years old wine, however done in an instant. * brought back Lazarus from death after he smelled like decomposed, no process but instant transformation. ...and what can we say about the blind, leprosy, crippled, etc, there is a reason we are saved by faith, we must not doubt our God is able and willing to hear. WLC is a degraded kind of faith, the one Jesus warned us about "But when the Son of Man returns, will he find faith?"

All Religions Are False Soul does not exist afterlife does not exist jesus does not exist satan does not exist God does not exist hope nonsense does exist Something for which there is no evidence, I can also rule out without evidence energy and matter and the cosmos cannot be created or destroyed, that is to say, has no beginning and no end it has always existed and will always exist literally Infinity the universe has appearances for the beginning, appearances for the end does not mean that it has a beginning or an end if there is no time how can something come into existence if there is no time for something to come into existence? if there is no space how can something come into existence if there is no space for something to come into existence? is all illogical! You can prove something that exists! can you prove or explain that god exists? no then god doesn't exist everything has a cause! but god has no cause? what nonsense! god making his own out of nothing and god who makes everything out of nothing without evidence or explaining anything is logic? no is madness Evolution and origin of life (Abiogenesis) You really think god made a man in sand blew on it and there's adam grab a rib from adam and there you have eva That's how it went? because that's nonsense You never looked up origin of life? You never looked up evolution? Even if they don't know everything yet they try to explain and prove things which isn't easy is better than nothing And claim things without evidence or explanation that's the easiest thing to do, but that doesn't make it true Origin of life talk about blocks of life who by circumstances originated Step by step! small changes over time And small mutation over time And that counts for evolution too they don't claim that something came out of nothing The bible does that without explanation without evidence Debate real and truth There is no good or bad There are no winners and there are no losers is at most interpretation and agreement! everything that is made is fake made truth is not truth Is no more than I say everything people think or made is fake and cannot be real or truth Otherwise we wouldn't have had to make it And think about it that also means that god does not exist Because they have to made it thought about it So that's fake and can't be real or trut Burden of proof is for everyone positive claim! you believe god exists why? try to explain try to prove! is not easy! claim! you don't believe in god why? try to explain try to prove! is not hard! negative claim! you know god doesn't exist why? try to explain try to prove! is not easy! every claim needs to be explained they all think they don't have to explain it doesn't mean they don't have to explain it this keeps it all equal for everyone God you need evidence first that god exists and has always existed you need evidence first that god has created something especially what cannot be created energy the cosmos the universe you need evidence first how god made his own out of nothing and made everything out of nothing you need evidence first what does it matter to anyone in this world you still have a very long way to go for proving something let alone explain something before you can say anything about it

Interesting :) Genesis 1:2 -- And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. Here we read earth is already created. In Genesis 1:1, we read in the beginning God created heaven and earth. In Genesis 1:2, we read that earth is already created. And from Genesis 1:3, we read 7 days of (further) creation. Gap between Gen 1:1 and Gen 1:2 could possibly be billions of years, Holy Spirit doesn't say, while mankind is around 6000 years old, precisely 5785 according to Jewish count in the Bible. Earth can be possibly much older, we don't know. Bible is a love story between God and us.

So disappointing to see these 3 giants of appologetics causing so many young people to lose their faith. That's right, many former Christians who lost their faith during their college years site this as the primary reason. They grew up reading Genesis as it is plainly written with the "morning and the evening was the first day... the second day... etc..." Then they hear a Christian college professor call into question and go through text bending and text stretching exercises to try to mold the Genesis account to try to fit some crazy naturalistic "scientific" explanation so appologists can save face during debates with these so called scientists. It then plants the seeds of doubt about the reliability of the bible. They can see how it is clearly written, and they surely don't buy these Christian professors explanation of how Genesis somehow fits into theistic evolution and big bang theories. What they see is why scientists think the universe was created billions of years ago, and that obviously doesn't fit Genesis. So they lose their faith. They know Genesis doesn't fit so nothing fits. If Genesis isn't accurate, the whole bible is inaccurate. Especially disturbing is WL Craigs embarrassment of the Christian church. I think Turik is pretty much just following what Craig is saying. Craig has brilliant arguments for the existence of God, but is theologically incompatible.
@gusolsthoorn1002 Says:
WLC now believes a putative "Adam" lived some 700,000 years ago. In essence WLC accepts evolutionary theory and has abandoned the longstanding Christian view of the Adam, that had children by Eve, and was the first human created. He has become a scoffer according to 2 Peter 3, by denying the earth was covered in water twice. He should be called out on this.

Actually, yes Frank! It does matter and why the world doesn't believe! The devil has done an outstanding job deceiving everyone in not believing God or His Word! That is the point of it all! Long rant but I feel necessary and hope you do the recommended research and take what I'm saying to heart and thought! No Frank, you can most certainly determine the age of the Earth!!! Why do you think God thought the Genealogies important enough to include in The Bible!?! Also, you believe false man made science to come up with millions of years. Tell me, how you can possibly determine the time of degradation of anything without knowing the starting point?? I'm so sick of it! Or what is below our feet without actually seeing it!? Oh, here's a big one for everyone! We DON'T LIVE ON A GLOBE!!! No how!!!! No way!!! It's all CGI because it has to be! Show me planets in the Bible!? Notice all the "planets" are named after gods!? But where we live is called the Earth because God named it!? Matter a fact, there is NO Hebrew Word for the mythical universe!!! Fact!!! In The Beginning, God created The Heaven and The Earth! PERIOD!!! Go do your research! Freemasons / demonically inspired catholics made it up to hide a loving god and glorify there great architect lucifer / satan! The biggest scam of all. Think about it! When you realize we live on a giant enclosed terrarium covered by a dome ie firmament and surrounded by an ice wall called Antartica! With heaven above and hell / Sheol below just like the ancients believed. It's NOT antiquated! It's the Truth! The Bible makes sense along with the flood and everything else! Then you will begin to see and understand all the deception. Earth is Gods footstool and heaven our home. Lastly, dump all these demonically inspired "modern translations" and get back to the PURE WORD OF GOD, The King James Bible! Again I say, do your research people! Please. Start with the King James Bible Research Council and Truth is Christ! It will open your eyes. Have to add this, do you know you are not allowed to go to Antartica!? You are not allowed past the 80th parallel south! And all the major powers of nations signed a unified treaty that NO ONE is allowed to Antartica except by special invite, lots of money and only 3 entry points! Huh! Why is that!? 3 names to see, Dr. Michael Heiser, Rob Skiba, Founded Earth Brothers. Also learn about operation High Jump led by Admiral Bird. Blessing, and may the Truth, set you free!!

Day is not the same as 24 hours, not in the past and not today. The earth is not about 6,000 years old and the Bible does not teach this. Hebrews 4:9-10: "There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his." This tells us that the 7th day Each believer are to enter into day 7. Also there no "evening and morning" for the 7th day. As day 7 as not ended. Biblical Hebrew has a limited vocabulary, with fewer words compared to other languages, such as English or Spanish. This means words often have multiple meanings determined by context. Day - yom is commonly rendered as day in English translations, but the word yom can be used in different ways to refer to different time spans thus literally is: Sunrise to sunset Sunset to next sunset Time period of unspecified length. (long time span ). We use the word day the same today: In my grandfather’s day cars did not go very fast. I work the day shift. (Both are not 24 hours) Deuteronomy 33:15 and Habakkuk 3:6 "ancient mountains". Gen. 2:4 “in the day that the Lord God made the earth and the heavens” The events of day 6 can not have happened in 24 hours. Creationism does not equal young Earth. There are many Old Earth creationists.

Frank Turek does a very good job for the most part, but it is sad to see him hobnobbing so comfortably with these two, especially William Lane Craig, who has drifted further and further into secular humanist and liberal "protestant" territory in recent years. I think he is flat out dishonest here when it comes to YEC, and quite hostile towards it. Neither he nor Meyer offer much in the way of real exegesis or OT scholarship to support their positions; I hear a lot about quote, science, unquote, but very little about Scripture. I had thought better of Meyer, as well, but in fairness to him, the ID movement has never specifically identified itself with the young Earth - young universe position. Even so, this is very disappointing.

@romanticandperky Says:
The fall of Satan, as described in Isaiah, precedes the events depicted in Genesis; and the fossils are our proof of that. In rebellion, Satan fell to earth and attempted to replicate God's ability to create, but the best he could do were the ravenous beasts such as dinosaurs and other 'low' forms of life. In Genesis, God makes his first bid to reclaim earth from Satan's dominion: He creates the seven day week and reorganizes all animal, vegetable, and mineral life around it, under the earthly authority of man, who is NOT EVOLVED from "Satan's fall", but was made in God's image. However, God, despite us being made in His image, gave us the ability to follow the rebellion of Satan's fall, i.e. Adam and Eve. The Bible is not a science book, nor does it ever claim to be so; but it's also not anti-science. The fossils are evidence that 'old earth' creationism is good science, but they do not give evidence of evolution. In fact, there is fossil evidence that disproves evolution; for instance that Cro-Magnum Man and Neanderthal Man actually shared a common time period, and did not evolve from each other; and the circumstantial evidence that, despite accumulative knowledge, we humans are just as foolish and gullible as we ever were, and did not evolve, for the most part, over the years. And we still need a Saviour who will crush the head of the serpent on our behalf, and make us a new creation in His Kingdom to Come, Amen. Genesis 3:15. 2 Corinthians 5:21.
@Yamyatos Says:
Im really happy about the fact that most videos you find when you look up something-anything about the earth being young.. are getting old. It's hard to find stuff thas younger than a year of age, with some of the videos being shown being 4, 6 or over 10 years old. Meaning people do less content about this nonsense than ever. Maybe science finally got through to them. Remember kids, if you laugh at flat earthers, you have no business being a young earth creationist. It's the very same kind of delusion, ignoring all of human knowledge to feed your confirmation bias.
@jondoe8014 Says:
Yes the two timelines can be resolved by realizing that both are right. Consider this in prophecy if it says 10 days we have a precedence of day for a year. So GOD will say 10 days, and here it will happen in 10 years. Here we do not ask which one is true and false. Here we accept both as true because we understand that GOD'S perception of time and our perception of time differ. So Y.E.C are using GOD'S time perspective, and O.E.C are using human perspective of time. In the above example Y.E.C would be 10 days, and O.E.C would be 10 years. In this we would not ask which is true because we understand the differing time perspective. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. If you understand this then it is reconciled and I would love for someone of either side to attempt to refute my position.
@keitho9508 Says:
Let's not pussy foot around. The observable universe is 14 billion years old, Earth is about 4.5 billion years old. These are facts, supported by evidence spanning many disciplines. The reason that YEC's insist on 6000 years is because of the genealogies that link Adam to Abraham which places the creation of Adam 6000 years ago. Of course, there are mountains of evidence that negate that viewpoint (Neanderthals, Homo Erectus, fire pits, art etc) The OEC's then contend that billions of years elapsed from Genesis 1.1 to Adam. This hand waving puts the whole fossil tecord, a record of unrelenting death as being something that god planned. Good luck with trying to reconcile that with a loving competent creator. No, the whole story is a fairy tale. Dont try to justify it with fancy words.
@eljay5746 Says:
Liars for theism. If their claims & assertions were true then put it to the test & write a sceintific paper to be peer reviewed by scientists. If their claims have any possibility of being true & backed up by evidence then a Nobel Prize awaits them.
@mshaw4094 Says:
Exodus 20:11 For in 6 days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea and all that is in them, and rested on the 7th day; therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy. In giving the Ten Commandments, God recounts the 6 days of the work of creation, and then resting on the 7th...it's equated to a 7-day week as the Hebrews would have understood it . Why couldn't God have created everything in a week? Nothing is impossible for Him.
@vonlyruil Says:
Ok if you want to say the earth is billions of years old then you’re going to have to explain how the sun appears older than that when it was said to be made after the earth. Best argument against Christianity is to show the possibility of errancy by picking apart the creation story. And the mental gymnastics that go into trying to make the Bible align with secular interpretations of science and dating methods honestly make it look more improbable than build it up as truth.
