It's the avalanche of poor decisions that assault your metabolism and impact your mental health in ways you haven't connected until now. A good diet, being well rested, keeping your stress levels low not only positively affect your metabolism, they also positively affect your mental health. Dr. Chris Palmer, a Harvard psychiatrist, has introduced the brain energy theory of mental illness, revealing that mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain. Which means there is a direct connection to diet and mental health. Dr. Palmer has been pioneering the use of a medical ketogenic diet as a treatment for mental disorders, and has released his new book, Brain Energy, carefully connecting the dots and explaining why mitochondria are at the center of it all. This episode is easily a mini-masterclass on mitochondrial function as Dr. Palmer explains all of the systems and processes mitochondria directly impact tying to nutrition and mental health. What's shocking is that all of the things known to impair mental illness directly impair mitochondrial function. If you want to know how to do a ketogenic diet well without a one-size fits all kind of solution, better understand why diet may be behind your sleepless nights and debilitating levels of anxiety, then this is the episode for you. Check out Dr. Palmer's book, Brain Energy: https://www.amazon.com/Brain-Energy-Revolutionary-Understanding-Health/dp/1637741588 QUOTES: 'I'm arguing all mental disorders are metabolic disorders of the brain.' 'I am saying diet plays a powerful role in mental illness, diet plays a powerful role in mitochondrial health, but it is not the only thing that plays a role [in mental health].' 'What I'm saying in a nutshell is that mitochondrial dysfunction is ultimately the cause of mental illness.' 'When I saw it put schizophrenia into remission at that point I knew I can't stay quiet about this, this is too important.' 'I would argue that the ketogenic diet or fasting states or fasting mimicking states in particular play a profound role in healing, and the reason is not because carbohydrates are the villain, the reason is because fasting is the saving treatment.' 'People who are overweight or diabetic or more likely to have autistic children…' 'Obesity and diabetes are symptoms. Obesity and diabetes are not causes, they are symptoms. They are symptoms of metabolic derangement somewhere in the body or brain.' 'The body is really good at healing itself, we just have to give it a chance. It knows what to do.' 'The thing that is criminal is that the people who make decisions about what the health and wellness of the United States population should be, the overwhelming majority of them have very strong ties to commercial enterprises that make ultra processed foods.' 'Brand name foods have no place in dietary guidelines and recommendations they just don't!' Dr. Palmer thank you for your persistence, compassion and courage. Your ideas are giving me hope that maybe we can stop poisoning our population. Thank you both for this intelligent discussion ❤

This is most sharing Isabel info. This is rambling. Rambling is ok if people are listening for entertainment value. In which case you should be good-looking baked women. Or you could be ugly guys telling truly funny jokes, or any or scenarios in which you ramble for long periods and it works be acceptable. So turn onto a nude Playboy bunny and ramble forever. Or spit put some REAL info rapid fire and finish in 10 to 15, and get off to another video.

Such an important interview. Please watch and share in spite of the unnecessary dropping of “F” bombs in some of the Host’s rants. This information is vital to get out to the population.

Not only mitochondria has it's own microbiome, but so does your brain. I bet we will find that we have several microbiomes within our bodies.

Excellent interview. I just got to the mitochondria chapter in Dr. Palmer’s book, and your interview helped answer some of my questions. I have schizophrenia and I just talked to my psychiatrist about switching to a ketogenic diet. I have also lost 65 pounds that I gained from my meds, and I am fasting some of the time. This is the first interview that has mentioned fasting, and I supposed that’s why I’ve been feeling so good just by losing weight without keto. I am excited for the next step— a medical keto diet. Hopefully one day I’ll be decreasing my meds with the help of my psychiatrist. Also, when I told my psychiatrist about Dr. Palmer’s book she said she would read it too. It’s really nice to see so many people supporting Dr. Palmer’s work! Thanks again for the great interview :)

I have to pause the video again, it is almost comical, that we have to be told to "eat real, whole food", lol

First off, I am loving Chris Palmer and his passion and drive. Secondly, I used to be a therapist(for 16 1/2), and it drives me crazy that in the secular treatment industry, you are not ever engaged in discussions on the spiritual body of a person, and goodness gracious, cannot talk about God. I see most if not all struggles are spiritual in nature, and require spiritual solutions. That being said, taking care of the physical body is key as well. Peace to all.
@captainofmysoul6162 Says:
At the part in the video where he is talking about the psychiatric drugs that harm metabolic health. Preach. I was a therapist for 16 1/2. The psychiatrist's there would heavily overprescribe meds for kids, such as Seroquel and they would gain 60 or more pounds. Also, they diagnosed a ton of kids as bi polar. The poor kids would be on this med or that med, maybe go inpatient, and then get all their meds switched. I could never be a part of that again.
@captainofmysoul6162 Says:
I have been really interested in Chris Palmer's work. Thankful for it. Just wanted to add that we are first a spiritual body. Things that go on in the spiritual body must be addressed as well as the physical body. Peace to all on their journey.

I have suffered for years to what I believe is attributed to destroyed microbiome from years of antibiotics, trauma, stress, diet and many of these causes Dr Palmer talks about. I now suffer and have since early years with inexplicable insomnia and Restless leg syndrome which developed in my late 20s. This is a neurological disorder with no cure. I ended up with needing my gallbladder removed.. and have had diverticulitis off and on number of years as well. Interestingly I noticed several times when I was hospitalized - I wasn’t able to eat for several days, during that fasting state in noticed my RLS was not even an issue way past the time I would normally have taken my anti seizure med for it. There is definitely something to the fasting state he explains as well as the nutrition and the brain function. My depression has hugely lifted since following low carb and trying to eliminate sugar. This Dr has nailed the science and research between the brain and the effects to mitochondria. Thank you Dr Palmer for your dedication and work to help save the otherwise hopeless lives of so many people affected by mental health illnesses

Oh, my God, I get it now. All the nasty people in my life... They weren't actually touched, loved or nobody in their family gave them the attention they deserved. Lost people I tell you. And they said I was lost, well lost people don't watch videos like these.
@annacichocka7734 Says:
So basically in simple words, what I've seen, is kinda like "From grandparents to a grand kid" Their lifestyle their traumas their diets. They are environment their cultural believes their cultural fears, everything. Me having kids? I don't think so. Bringing two families' issues and problems into a kid is narcissistic. Yeah, I'm so narcissistic. It's all about me, me and only me me, and nobody else. Right?

When I started LCHF my blood pressure was high. After 3 weeks my bp started to go very high in the morning only to later in the day drop to levels I have seen since my 20’s. Once you remove a detrimental cause, there is the possibility of an overcompensation by our bodies. This I believe is an adjustment that takes time
@craigklein5563 Says:
One of the biggest lies I've ever heard in my life is that stress causes weight gain. There is no calories in stress and a person's choice to overeat is irrelevant to the stress or not. Fat people are going to get fatter regardless of so called fat shaming which also doesn't exist!

I always looked up medications I was Prescribed. The method of action on every single medication said "UNKNOWN". Side effects of medications are anything that happened to an individual during a clinical trial if that clinical trial was used to take that medication to market. That's why you see side effects like sleepiness and excitability, constipation and diarrhea. Everything prescribers do is a shot in the dark. They have no idea what's gonna happen to you. Ultimately I was saved by a non prescribing Christian counselor. And the carnivore diet.❤💪🔥

I totally agree all mental disorders are metabolic! I have put my two sons 16 and 14 on Keto as I was doing it myself and they were curious abd what a transformation! Eric, my older son was fat (he has lost 40lbs in keto and has about 8-10lbs to go) and Ollie, my younger son was extremely skinny. I believed they both suffered from the same thing, insulin resistance. They were cranky, hangry, in-motivated before, but now they are energetic, motivated, happy, spot-free (the older guy) ache free (the younger guy! I am now trying to get my cranky 15 year old daughter on to keto but that will take time! Yesterday (Sunday 24th September 2023) we had a break day where we could eat whatever carbs we liked, we gorged on Taytos, choclate, bread etc etc and last night going to bed my younger fellow, Ollie begged that we go back on Keto today as he felt like crap last night!!! I am so happy since I went on keto but I do take breaks of course (I have a 10 year old daughter Alex so we had McDonalds double cheeseburgers yesterday) we have a normal social life although I don’t drink as much alcohol as I used to. Anyway this is a great doctor!! ❤❤🎉 thanks 😊 🙏🏻

@WhatInTheActual Says:
It's not about seeing medications work and whether or not they work at times and certain applications, but it's about defaulting to those things rather than making sure the other things that are creating the situation that appears to necessitate the concoction, those causative factors are often not addressed, and so continues what many understand is the core of the corruption.

Interesting. Years ago, I remember listening to Dr. Jack Kruse on how blue light and sleep cycles affect mitochondria. He put a big emphasis on mitochondria and melatonin and sleep cycles, and he has some bio hacks for these things. Worth checking out, IMO.
