I have to admit, I started learning partly to win arguments, and partly to win people, unfortunately it was more to win arguments. I had to learn that it wasnt about me and my pride, its ALL ABOUT JESUS! I still have to watch myself though, because pride can creep in oh so easily. You gotta learn to stay focused on JESUS.

Apologetics is a wonderful God given tool, but frequently used by christians to point score rather than evangelize with gentleness and respect. I've been watching Frank Turek's debates and videos years now. I've never seen him act with anything but grace towards non believers. As Greg Koukl says, "The Gospel is already offensive. Don't make it more so." It's entirely possible to win arguments without winning hearts. God forgive our arrogance when we dishonour Him with strong arguments while lacking in authentic love. And God forgive us when we don't engage our faith intellectually. It can swing to both unhealthy, unhelpful extremes.

I agree. It's not about winning arguments.
But it's also not JUST about bringing people to Christ. Was Peter saved when Paul confronted him about the lie of the Judaizers? Or course he was!!!
The modern American church has strayed away from the truth of God's Word way further than the Judaizers ever did. We need apologists to bring those who are saved back in line with God's will.
