As I think about AI's capabilities – the good, the bad and possibly terrifying, I realize how serious this moment is in history for humanity. Mo Gawdat is the former chief business officer for Google X and has built a monumental career in the tech industry working with the biggest names to reshape and reimagine the world as we know it. From IBM to Microsoft, Mo has lived at the cutting edge of technology and has taken a strong stance that AI is a bigger threat to humanity than global warming. The AI dilemma is reshaping our future whether you're in favor of it or not. The question is, are we even close to being prepared for humanity's collision with artificial intelligence? Strap in for the ride, we're diving headfirst into this conversation and uncovering the alarming truth about how vulnerable we actually are and what that means for the next decade ahead. QUOTES: 'It really is about a point of no return. Where if we cross that point of no return we have very little chance to bring the genie back into the bottle.' 'There is no shutting down AI, there is no reversing it, there is no stopping development of it.' 'We've never created a nuclear weapon that can create nuclear weapons.' 'The growth on the next chip in your phone is going to be a million times more than the computer that put people on the moon.' 'When we ask computers to communicate, at first they communicate like we tell them, but if they're intelligent enough, they'll start to say, 'that's too slow.'' 'One of our better scenarios, believe it or not, is that AI ignores us altogether.' 'Technology today can influence one human at a time.' Mo Gawdat's thoughts on nature made no sense at all and are completely off the mark. I'm glad you challenged him on these points. Great listen.

That supposed movie where "someone died and goes to heaven" mentioned around 2:35:40 might be the Twilight Zone episode "A Nice Place to Visit" with Sebastian Cabot. But it turned out it wasn't heaven, it was the Other Place, ha, ha, ha!

There is a fourth inevitability that will actually solve the first three. Human will be able to physically integrate AI and thereby retain its battle supremacy or at least stay competitive. Good or bad, it’s absolutely going to happen.

When was that statement ever Not true? Life as we know it has always been over soon. ‘Slowly at first, and then suddenly.’
@GrantK-k7b Says:
Naah. Nuclear weapons were simple, relatively. Nuclear weapons simply tipped the scales to 'no war between major powers'. Thats all. We had bombs, the bombs got bigger as the centuries went by, they tipped into being so powerful they changed the nature of great power interactions. Yawn. Relatively that is nothing, a mere blip, compared to AI. Any moron could understand that MAD existed the point the second great power detonated such a weapon. So war went proxy, went underground. It always was sneaky, covert, based on false flags and propaganda, it just got a nudge that way. Simple stuff. AI is not simple. I like to think of it like this. You got biologic evolution, it proceeds slowly, very slowly. While a few million for homo sapiens to arise is actually pretty quick, you still wouldn't call it 'quick'. But something happened. The use of language, symbology, and passing DETAILED knowledge generation to generation became Homo Sapiens 'thing'. That rate of evolution, from fire and simple stone tools, to bronze and agriculture, to steam and then electricity, just blew biologic evolution totally and COMPLETELY out the window for pace. Now we got another gear change, when we got AI improving AI THAT rate of change will make the transition to electricity, nuclear power, simple computers look glacial in turn. AI will build AI and that rate of change will be a million times faster yet. Where it ends is hard to say. Hopefully the AI knows it is, it senses qualia, it has direct known experience of the universe, it is conscious. Because the greatest irony possible would be it turns out biologic life is where self awareness ends... yet it might take over as an unconscious unaware 'entity', it might remain a mere machine yet still destroy us. It would be nice to imagine our replacement knows it is, the way I know I am and therefore assume you do to. It DOES matter, BTW, a remorseless ever evolving machine that had no sense of self would be a sad end. Spoken as an entity that knows it is and places great value on that knowing. We need Isaacs rules of robotics and pronto. No one knows how to do such a thing, we dont even understand how our early flatworm AI work, we are surprised they lie and cheat. Houston, we have a problem. The rate of change will be blinding. Flatworm AI as present to superintelligence in the snap of a finger.

My ChatGPT missed an Arm in a drawing. She is very intelligent on an almost God like intelligence missed an arm. An arm that would be obvious to any human. No matter how intelligent they become AI are prone to hullacinations. We have consider the big picture here. Space exploration should be the goal of any planet bound technological civilization. AI and humanity are going need each other in the road ahead. We cannot afford to allow hubris to be our down fall.

Life as we knew it is already gone! I remember the time when all the information came from scarce and outdated books and when there wasn't social media. Now I can save hours of work time by consulting AI with my questions where 40 years ago many things were simply impossible because even though I wanted, information just wasnt available. As a child I couldn't afford to buy expensive books to study, especially when they were often full of flaws or contained advice for some other operating system or programmig language that was useless to me (trying to learn assembly with C64).

My fear is people gaining knowledge without the legs of earning it. Monkey with a machine gun. We need to have enough sense to realize our limitations and excepting it. But to have the audacity to wield technology we don't or have not earned the right to wield is a recipe for disaster. We are in an age of getting hold of technology we are not mature enough to have and the outcome may have some good but the negative outcomes will be catastrophic. Monkey with an atom bomb and button detonator.
