Meshroom: 3D models from photos using free photogrammetry software

????

Meshroom turns photographs into 3D models using a process called photogrammetry. This video provides a couple of demonstrations, including clean-up of the final output in Meshmixer for render or 3D print. Meshroom can be downloaded from the AliceVision website here: https://alicevision.org/ And it has a great manual (including a beginners tutorial) here: https://meshroom-manual.readthedocs.io/en/latest/tutorials/sketchfab/sketchfab.html Information on 'Draft Meshing' which allows Meshroom to be used without an NVIDIA GPU, is here: https://github.com/alicevision/meshroom/wiki/Draft-Meshing Meshmixer can be downloaded from: https://www.meshmixer.com/ My previous video in which used AutoDesk 123D Catch to turn the wooden elephant into a 3D model is here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TTCiOoedUco However, note that this is now an historical curiosity, as 123D Catch required a connection to cloud resources. So even if you could obtain a copy of the program, it would no longer work. Today, Meshroom really is the way to go. Hello everyone, I come from China and I really want to meet foreigners who work in 3D. I am engaged in 3D scanning and modeling of museum relics. I am very interested in meeting you and would like you to leave me a message so that I can communicate and get to know you.

Great tutorial, looking forward to giving this a try!

you think you can apply background removal in photo editor before putting in meshroom to avoid or skip having to clean up the data from that point

In a way I like doing my processing locally. We should not have to depend on the cloud for everything. The cloud is only someone else's computer!

I miss 123Dcatch. It was easy to use aside from just needing an internet connection and smartphone.

I work in museum of archeology and my aim is show artifacts also save them in 3d form with original texture and colour. In the video I see lion's detail ( lines on the back of lion) lost. How to avoid that? This video guided me a lot ❤ thank you

Ehi, awasome video! I tried but I cannot get the program to create much :-( It does not seem to be able to utilize the pictures I am loading. Could you upload the elephant photos so one can get a better idea of how they need to be for the program to be able to use them? MANY THANKS!!

Thank You for this. Now I dont have to pay hundreds of dollars to have some vendor take the pictures and convert to an .stl file. I will ask a question for anyone here. Once I have my shape in an .stl and on a 3D cad program can I then determine the solid mass or meshed density by using say Lead as the mass or some other density of matter?

ive just downloaded mesh room , as a workflow , i would , take yr mesh into zbrush and smooth out and sclpt defined edges and put in the detail and thats great but then id lose the uv texture map, but then im thinking , i could use all those images to stencil paint onto a newly uv unwrapped mesh . what do you think ?

I need help with a problem in meshroom, I use draft meshing and when I want to process the meshing node the bar turns red. The script says: WARNING:root:Downgrade status on node "Texturing_1" from Status.SUBMITTED to Status.NONE WARNING:root:Downgrade status on node "MeshFiltering_1" from Status.SUBMITTED to Status.NONE

FYI, forgot to say in my post below that it is my hope that after making a 3D model with Meshroom, I will use ExactFlat to make the 5 foot inflatable. Your help would be appreciated.
@robertdoll3282 Says:
First of all I am not tech savvy. Just so you know this. I am trying to use Meshroom to make a 3D model of a small 3 inch figurine I hope to turn into a 5 foot inflatable. I have downloaded Meshroom and exracted the download. However I do not get a file called Meshroom.exe. I open a file called Meshroom and get the screen allowing me to import the 200 photos of my figurine. When starting the photo import (I allowed the import to work overnight) the photos do not remain on the keft side of the screen, but come and go when I scroll through them. The small circle going around and around as though they are still downloading. Also, when this process did not seem to be working I deleted all of the Meshroom files and re-installed a new download to see if I could get Meshroom.exe. After the new download I get the same result. Please help me if you can. Thank you.

Wouldn't it be easier just to use video instead of still images? Then the app could use AI that calculates what pictures are most relevant to use from the video? I gueds that probably will be a thing in the future. I would like to make a perfect copy of my PC case. I guess I had to use CAD to do so since I guess this method wouldn't be able to get the precisicion needed for like screw holes and such.
