Hardly anyone knows his name cause not much digging he is a nazi that hung the 5 slowest Jews in his rocket factory
@CashMullen-ng4sr Says:
Of course this propaganda video fails to mention that WVB was a NAZI War Criminal who should have been tried at Nuremburg for his role in the deaths of 20,000 slave labor prisoners at the V-2 factory under Mittelwerk.

himmler did toss him into a prison cell and was going to have him shot

Studies by the Khan Academy show what happened for Wernher happens for other kids those who struggle early can go one to be the best.
@MarkAMMarrk Says:
Anyone who focuses on Von Braun's Nazi affiliation is just plain ignorant. Oskar Schindler was a member of the Nazi party and had Nazi cohorts, colleagues and affiliates, as did anyone who wanted to succeed in that atmosphere. It doesn't make them complicit.
@joeschmoe21 Says:
Von Braun was a Nazi, who utilized slave labor to make V2 bombs.

@catallaxy Says:
It has to be noted that judicial standards of a relatively free society do not apply to a totalitarian regime like Nazi Germany. No one could pursue any ambition without party membership. All children were required to be members of the Hitler Youth, a Nazi indoctrination organization. This condition was also present in all communist countries and is certainly present in Red China today. Therefore, it is off-side to judge the intentions of an individual like Werner von Braun, who was under the duress of compliance to a rule of command (as opposed to rule of law) society headed by a brutal dictator.

Slight mistake in the comments on Apollo 8 here, it didn't do a single orbit of the moon it spend almost a day around the moon, doing ten orbits in total.

We beat the USSR to the moon because our Nazi scientists were better than their Nazi scientists.

Wernher von Braun was a horrible human being, some of the worst scum that ever lived but he got a free pass in America because he knew a thing or two about rockets.
@Hot_Cold_Blue Says:
V1 and V2 production resulted in death and evil that taints any subsequent positive work of Braun.
@kevinbford20 Says:
I just got a large type 1 photo of Von Braun and Walt Disney. Huge Disney history guy and didn’t know who the “other guy” was. Now I know and I am so much more excited about the pic I came across. Fascinating to learn about and he and Walt shared much in common as men/people. Love the complexity of this man’s story - from Nazi rocket scientist to American hero - building weapons of mass destruction to outspoken Christian and civil rights activist. Really interesting man and so happy to know about this all. Great video too!
@minewheaties5029 Says:
Fact=von Braun was also a prominent V2 rocket scientist for Nazi Germany. People didn't use their heads and made a false idol out of him.
@vonries Says:
There was never a need to put him down for any of his actions. He was in that career path before Hitler came to power. If he had refused to work for Hitler he would have been killed. He was too great of a mind to lose like that.
@llobinske Says:
He didn't have a choice about belonging to the Nazi party. You disappoint me, Simon.

@Raubabbau Says:
Simon fails when it comes to Wernher von Braun, but I also find the comments that somehow put it into perspective or try to excuse it as frightening as it is sad. Wernher von Braun was SS Sturmbandfuhrer. That corresponds to a colonel and was not an inconspicuous rank, it had to be worked out and you needed the right support in the SS. It is also a misconception that you had the choice between cooperation and execution. Like many, von Braun could have gone into exile or ceased his activities. But he was a ruthless opportunist. He served the regime. He knew about the processes in Mittelbau Dora and even got actively involved in the organisation. There are reports of inmates seeing him there giving orders. He was also in the Buchenwald concentration camp to select workers. 15,000 people died in Mittelbau Dora and 56,000 people in Buchenwald concentration camp. Von Braun never apologized. In America he is a hero, a country full of people who blindly admire him and justify his crimes, belittle them or simply deny them, a bitter pill for the liberators what their descendants think. Even more bitter for the prisoners and the dead, of course. Funny that we Germans think little of him, places named after him would be renamed and although we know exactly who the Americans owe the rocket technology to, we have to bitterly admit how it was paid for.
@freefallin6871 Says:
As a German scientists in Nazi Germany, he and his colleagues lives likely depended on a fair amount of pragmatism. Life is seldom black and white, with the shades of grey that people live in usually being subject to interpretation.
@loraharrison1172 Says:
Being from Huntsville, Alabama, von Braun is treated as a local hero in many ways. When you ask a local what Huntsville is known for, the typical response is von Braun’s work on the Saturn V

Wernher von Braun was a true Visionary and a hero of Science. 🇺🇸🇩🇪🇺🇸🇩🇪
@Stickyrolls123 Says:
Very disappointed in this channel for failing to mention a few crucial parts about this man's history. He wasn't just in the German military but was a member of the Nazi party and to make matters worse a member of the SS. He didn't shy away from using forced labor of Jewish people, working many to death.
