Stop with the political comments; it tarnishes your commentary.

You know James A. Garfield was present of the US for 200 days. Friday, 4 March 1881 Monday, 19 September 1881

As an Ohioan many of our Presidents fall short of greatness. I want to believe Garfield had the potential for greatness.

The Garfield National Historic Site in Mentor, OH is excellent. It contains the first Presidential Library and original items throughout. Highly recommended.
@RobertEWaters Says:
You left out one detail: Garfield gave the nominating speech at the convention for Sherman. But he had been kept so busy that he had no opportunity to write a speech! He delivered the speech extemporaneously- and was so eloquent that it played a significant role in stampeding the convention. I wonder whether Doctor Doctor Bliss was Joseph Heller's inspiration for the character of the inept Major Major in CATCH-22!
@bionicleanime Says:
Garfield is also the only president elected that only served in the lower chamber of Congress, House of Representatives.
@rad4924 Says:
First President to be killed for trying to fight against the deep state. There, I said it.
@mattthesilent777RED Says:
I'd like a word with Charles Guiteau
@johnschuh8616 Says:
Indeed one of the ablest men every to be president, almost on the same intellectual level as Teddy Roosevelt and Woodrow Wilson. Despite his reservations about blacks, he was still a champion of civil rights. Had he served two terms it is likely he would have been strong enough to do what Harrison was unable to do which was the keep the Party from abandoning the cause of the blacks in the South.
@scottaznavourian3720 Says:
The irony is guitteaus plan ultimately failed cause even though arthur became president arthur (who he presumed would reinstate the spoils orogram) comtinueed garfields plan.

It's Friday night and I could be out partying and getting drunk. Instead I'm sitting at home alone in my underwear eating ice cream and watching a biography of James Garfield. I can't think of anything I'd rather be doing

He does at least seem to be getting vindicated by history in recent years due to being the fiery abolitionist that he was, at least in discussions that I've seen.

Interesting character if anything he is 21 century politician he’d fit in today. Nothing truly remarkable
@ttrestle Says:
A man shot Garfield, but the doctors killed him. Hard to believe that they still thought bad air was the culprit and that you shouldn’t dig your fingers into a hole over and over again by multiple people after someone has been shot. I can’t believe that it took 80 days for this dude to die. Those must’ve been the most excruciating 80 days of his life.
@ttrestle Says:
Outstanding video. My only critique is that I wish you would’ve gone into it just a little more history about the assassin who shot him in terms of how he was a failure at everything he tried, including the free, love commune, being a preacher, etc.
@juanandresvides2749 Says:
I remember that Cartoon Network’s MAD of all things referenced this president
@user-yp9fb1jb6m Says:
Want to end corruption? You might get murdered. The deep state doesn't mess around. Ask Trump. Couldn't kill him so they used every trick in the book. I wouldn't vote for him, but he scared the crap out of the swamp.
@vincentjacobsson3981 Says:
I think it should be investigated if the American states now and then are legislated with the Bible written as a story. The word immunity (Latin immunitas, freedom from obligations to the state) comes from a religious revelation from the middle ages, most likely from a pope to become lawless, and which has since been rewritten into sovereign, absolute, and qualified immunity (legally, cannot be prosecuted for criminal act) to the president, senate (origin, the Roman Empire), congress, cabinet, and Supreme Court for law decisions and actions. The political exploitation of the vital ecosystem has led to forest death, how will that affect people's economy, etc? I also think The Democratic party can be a consciously misleading party name with all parties belonging to The Republican party, as current political democracy and socialism can only be about going more toward the middle, eg. The Democrats for law decisions and actions, even with the misleading word professional politician. Furthermore, I think the people should consider voting for a real democratic party with an independent state formation to investigate if the president, parties, senate (origin, the Roman Empire), congress, cabinet, and Supreme Court overall may be guilty of a violation of democratic rights with misleading elections, economic crimes, violation of human rights with class society for adults and children, and serious environmental crime (force majeure).

@kennym.4664 Says:
The entire story of President Garfield, Charles Guiteau, and the longest assassination in modern history is pretty astonishing, even for the time. This video barely scratches the surface of the abhorrent behavior of the doctor, from both a medical standpoint and a moral one. Nowhere in this video was Alexander Graham Bell mentioned, who invented what would be known as the x-ray machine in order to find the bullet, only to be told by Dr. Bliss that only the left side of Garfield's body could be examined--the right side was off limits, only to find out during the autopsy that the bullet had traveled and lodged on his right side. The story is detailed in "The Destiny of the Republic: A Tale of Madness, Medicine, and the Murder of a President" by Candice Millard. It's a great read, but obviously, you will walk away mortified by what President Garfield had to endure and everything that he was denied by his doctor.

We honestly need to see a video on Andrew Jackson, that would be a roller coaster worth riding.

Guiteaus speech probably sounded like the speech Charlie wrote for Dennis so he could get on the city council or whatever it was.
@Naltddesha Says:
I love this channel, but good god, the ads are absolutely relentless
@TheAeroAvatar Says:
Would've been fascinating to know what history would have looked like if Garfield survived to serve an entire term, if not two. He definitely deserved more of a chance than what he was allowed to have, through no fault of his own.
