More Bizarre than you know

I'm wondering if liquid nitrogen instead of water would keep the toilet float trigger from triggering and would have disabled it? No idea if that would work but it's an idea and seems less risky than the explosive they did try but someone who actually knows what they are talking about let know if that would have had potential or just cause it to explode but frozen 😹

From what I heard, John Burgess' motive for the bombing was to recoup gambling loses when Harvey Gross stopped treating him like a high roller. When John Burgess first stared gambling heavily, throwing large amounts of money across the table's at Harvey Casino. Casino owner Harvey Gross naturally treated Burgess like a V.I.P. Even allowing him to stay at his personal residence whenever he was in town. As Burgess wallet became thinner and thinner over time, Harvey Gross slowly yanked the proverbial red carpet out from under Burgess feet, eventually withdrawing it all together. Apparently (as the story goes) John Burgess saw this as a slight that could not be over looked or forgiven. So, he came up with this elaborate plan to both recoup his loses and get revenge on Harry Gross. At least that was the way I heard it.

Thank God! No Karl! Or Carl! Can't stand that guy. I won't watch if that guy is narrator.
@Kathleen-dn6mz Says:
I knew the man who volunteered,then working at Harrah's casino, to get all the money out of the casino that was going to Harvey that was going to be able to collect all the money
@lexcellent99 Says:
I remember there was some suspicions surrounding this about the owner of the casino getting this guy to bomb it so he could collect insurance money on the casino. The owner allegedly knew the bomber was in debt and offered money/debt forgiveness if be would destroy the casino so he could collect the payout
@nerdyrevelries422 Says:
It seems like he was a very smart man, and it's a shame he didn't use his technical know-how for something more productive and less dangerous.
@petefrenzel7296 Says:
He probably made / designed the device as undefeatable because he wanted revenge on Harvey himself, since he knew him & spent time with him on his (Harevy's) ranch. He wanted the ransom money & wanted it to blow up. Double revenge.
@TransRoofKorean Says:
It's such an interesting part of human nature... clearly an intelligent guy, obviously a very hard worker, diligent and patient and careful... and simultaneously an abusive drunkard who'd sooner try to recoup his lost wealth by gambling and then by putting so much work into this hare-brained scheme than by simply doing what he did in the first place to make his wealth.

Just watched this, and I am amazed that I had never heard this story before, and am even more amazed that there hasn’t been either a film or even a Netflix documentary about this…this has all the makings of a brilliant documentary series… The whole fact they managed to get such a complex bomb right into the Casino, and just walk out is extraordinary….
@CKRedicus Says:
Wild when I hear about a cool heist. So I go to look it up on YouTube and it says I watched this already lol!
@Werevampiwolf Says:
So turns out this is yet another video where I'm listening as I fall asleep and suitably jerk away when my hometown is mentioned. I did know a Hungarian refugee named John but it's definitely not the same guy

I think the problem with gambling is that people actually think it's entertainment.
@Chrisf206 Says:
I witnessed this bomb going off in 1980, it was wild, put my father out of work, he was a card dealer at Harvey’s at the time, the bomb did massive damage to the steel from of the building, still shots showed it literally lifted it off the foundation. Off topic but Harvey had the worlds largest automobile collection, full of mint condition classic cars, expansive warehouses, full machine shop which could make any car part if not available, our high school did a field trip tour of the facility, impressive to say the least and will never forget it, sadly after Harvey passed the collection was sold off. Harvey also had one of the first bison ranches and helped save the American bison….an interesting man.

@cathythoman Says:
the bombing happened the day before i was born.
@allenkinahan6955 Says:
is that where the Harvey Wallbanger came from?
@nosonoliento Says:
1980 was quite the year in Nevada. Besides the Harvey's bombing it was also the year of the MGM Hotel fire in Vegas that killed 85 and then the pedestrian deaths in Reno when a crazy woman drove her car down the sidewalk killing six and sending 26 to the hospital. The t-shirt read: "I GOT BURNED IN VEGAS, BOMBED AT TAHOE AND RUN OVER IN RENO.
@pikeman80 Says:
The bomber is no less decent than the millionaire. The millionaire was willing to gamble with lives to save his money. But, then, to them it's money over humanity. They are willing to do anything to make money even if some people die in the process. The same as the FBI/Swat guys. They would have shot a person because of money. FBI.....For Big Income.

@cyberi4a Says:
The casino owner wouldn't pay $3M ransom but would pay $18M to repair the casino which I'm guessing was insurance money. Did he take advantage of the situation to get a new hotel/casino remodeling done at the expense of the insurance company?
@beezysbeatz4924 Says:
Let this be a cautionary tale... If you're otherwise brilliant but have little common or street sense, do not commit felonies. Especially 1's or 2's. You'll have to get partners you can trust, but because you're only book smart, you'll trust anybody. You will get caught. Likewise if all you have is street smarts, you'll need a partner with the tech skills needed or you'll get caught or blow yourself up. There's only 2 ways to even have a chance at getting away with something like the Harvey's bombing. 1... No partners and tell no one. or 2 ... You get a partner(s) to help you do the job, then disappear them and anyone else that even might have heard about it.
@jimbirges1573 Says:
Somewhat accurate but many omissions. But given the short length of the video, it was close. The method of disarming would would have worked. It was pure luck that it didnt.

Some feedback for the narrator. 1. Speak clearly. 2. Learn voice modulation and narrate properly. Your tone remains the same no matter what you speak, you don't bring your voice up and down as required naturally.

Simon, any chance we could get more crime stories like these in your Casual Criminalist channel? You're always saying how soul-sucking it is to read horrible stories with rape and murder, especially of kids, like Pedro Lopez... *and I am totally with you on that.* 😱😫😖 It'd be good for your (and a lot of my fellow audience members, I suspect) to have less heavy stories there. Thanks and Happy Holidays.
