In the book of Genesis, God sent angels in the form of men to visit the town of Sodom and the home of a man named Lot. When the men in the town learned about the visitors, they descended on Lot’s house and attempted to rape the visitors. Soon after, Sodom was destroyed. For millennia, this story has been understood as a story about God’s punishment of sin. Including the sin of homosexuality. In fact, the word sodomy comes from the town of Sodom. But some now argue that this story has been misunderstood. They claim that God’s punishment of Sodom had nothing to do with homosexuality, but was instead punishment for inhospitality or promiscuity. If you hear this argument, here are a couple of things to remember.
First, the context of Genesis makes the meaning of the Sodom story clear. In Genesis 19:5, we read that the men of Sodom said, “Bring them out to us, that we may KNOW them.” Here, the Hebrew word YADA is translated “to know” which is understood to mean to have sex. But some now claim that this is a mistake. They suggest that “to know” has a platonic meaning. Now here’s the problem with this argument. Just a few verses later, Lot uses the same word “YADA” in Genesis 19:8, “I have two daughters who have not KNOWN a man.” Now, this can’t possibly mean that Lot’s daughters hadn’t MET a man before because the same chapter tells us that Lot’s daughters were engaged. It’s clear that the phrase “to know” (YADA) is being used in a sexual sense to say that they were virgins. Now in light of how the word YADA is used elsewhere in Genesis 19, it’s not reasonable to suggest that the men of Sodom were just “looking to chat” with the visitors. Their intentions were clear and God didn’t like it.
Second, other scripture confirms the connection between Sodom and homosexuality. Some claim that references to the story of Sodom in other parts of the Bible don’t mention homosexuality. Suggesting that it isn’t really part of the story. For evidence, they cite the prophet Ezekiel who said the following when talking to Israel, “Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed, and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy (Ezekiel 16:49).” There’s no mention of homosexuality in this quote. Does this mean that God was ONLY angered by their lack of generosity? No! And here’s how we know. One verse later, Ezekiel says about Sodom that quote, “They were haughty and DID AN ABOMINATION before me (Ezekiel 16:50).” The phrase “did an abomination”, is a direct reference to Leviticus 20:13 where this exact phrase originated as part of a direct condemnation of homosexual behavior. It says, “If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination.” Rather than distance the story of Sodom from homosexuality, Ezekiel actually makes a direct connection. Whether someone cares what the Bible says about anything is a separate issue. But on the issue of homosexuality, the biblical position is clear and consistent.
So next time someone tells you that the story of Sodom and Gomorrah has nothing to do with homosexuality, remember these 2 things…
1. The context of Genesis makes the meaning of the Sodom story clear.
2. Other scripture confirms the connection between Sodom and homosexuality.

You see, I'm ex-homosexual too. I know it is wrong (yes, sin). But your argument about Sodom and even the term sodomy is wrong. This was NOT why God decided to destroy Sodom. He told Abraham about his plans to do so even before this event. If those people had gone to Lot's door just wanting to rob and beat up the angels, you wouldn't have much to say about it. But this particular sin is so convenient to you because it hides the fact that every other sin is equally ungodly and abominable.
Though I have been allowed back in a church, my background is an almost automatic disqualification from any form of ministry. But I can tell you that the church consists of sinners saved by grace, ALL of us.
In Judges 19, there is an almost exact parallel to Sodom's story which occurred in the tribe of Benjamin. The Israelites almost killed off the entire tribe because of what they had done to the Levite's concubine. But somehow this story isn't so well attested by those preaching against homosexuality. I find this curious. Perhaps, because it wasn't God who had executed the revenge?
There are much better arguments against homosexuality, and Sodom simply isn't one. But there are a plethora of other heinous sins that deserve equal condemnation. Homosexuals should simply be lovingly informed that their sexual immorality is condemned equally with every other form of sexual immorality, and given the opportunity to repent.
If half the time was spent finding a way to help these gay people overcome this sin, and what amounts to a mental disorder, rather than shunning them or subjecting them to gay therapy (which was almost universally ill informed mental torture), you might have some success against the problem.
The church's approach is however void of love and simply amounts to persecution. I tell you as a fact that the church will face greater judgement in this respect than most gay people will. You drove them away, as surely as the sheep Yeshua spoke about were lost by the shepherds (note that this parable was directed towards the Pharisees who were complaining that He was eating and drinking with sinners).
I speak out strongly against homosexuality directly to gay people, not to the holy huddle of self-righteous church people, but you'll probably condemn me with them for defiling myself with sinners. I don't mind that, but my greatest concern for people being lost is not those, but the very people who go to church every Sunday and eagerly point fingers at others...😢

I'm going to give you historical and archeological evidence for God's Existence as The Scriptures have prophecies that predate the events recorded in them by several millennia including Matthew, Hosea and Zechariah which prophesy accurately of the people of Israel becoming a nation again after over 1900 years of being scattered around the nations since the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem in 70 A.D. spoken of by Christ in Matthew 23:29-24:3 and returning to their homeland after The Holocaust with Jerusalem as their capital in 1948 exactly as Jesus The Christ said. The prophets including Daniel spoke of the time where several world empires would arise and fall including the Babylonian kingdom, Medes and Persians, Roman Empire, and Saladin and the Muslims which went in consecutive order for the past few millennia. The people of Israel becoming a nation after The Holocaust in 1948 (ironically the melting point of gold as God compares Israel to gold that's tested in fire in Zechariah 13:8 and Jeremiah 16:15) exactly how Jesus The Christ said would happen since God us everything to come in The Scriptures and not just because people were working towards as Atheists claim which are impossible for any regular man to predict.

Atheists have the burden of proof to explain how everything came to be and why our existence is possible without the Existence of God from an godless perspective just as Christians have to provide evidence of God's Existence and the validity of His Word.
Evolution requires life to already exist in order to take any effect in living organisms so it doesn't account for the existence of Life and reality. Also evolution is impossible because it goes against The Law of entropy and the second Law of thermodynamics because evolution makes things better whereas nothing continues to get better but decays and turns to absolute destruction in the end. Mark Ridley an Evolutionist said "No evolutionist whether gradualist or punctuationist uses the fossil record as evidence in favor of The Theory of Darwinian Evolution as opposed to special Creation". God's Existence is made perfectly known and observable in the universe as demonstrated in His Handiwork in the intelligently designed manner that Creation was made, human consciences and consciousness historical and archaeological evidence of God's Word being valid history, fulfillment of Bible Prophecies God in His Holiness and Righteousness could give us what we deserve in Hell for our since but He's merciful to give us free will to choose to accept or reject His gift of salvation by grace through faith in His Son Jesus.
