Madden was a rehash of the same game year after year. New consoles of course brought better graphics and tweaks. But once NFL2K came along, Madden finally had some real competition and had to step up their game. Then they thought it'd be easier if they just bought the NFL liscense to prevent 2K from simpling destroying them at every turn. Have not bought an EA game since on purpose.
