Well done Ubuntu team looks beautiful, crisp, clean, fast and professional. So many good things to say but the most important - i'm installing it on my laptop which i use mainly for internet / YouTube. Thank you so much. Cheers Chris ... oh hang on wait wait wait wait wait .... did a little research .. Read more Edit: Just read Automatic Updates cannot be turned off. That means it's connected to a central server which obviously means you are sharing your desktop and forced to trust there is no back door - yeah right. Bye bye Ubuntu. I'll stay on Windows 8.1. At least i know i've got M/Sloths locked out. Linux you've been nothing but a time wasting hassle from day one. Very annoyed. Linux distros ALWAYS waste my time. By the way, i also read Firefox is running from a SNAP package manager, whatever that is and takes 2.7 seconds to open. The guy tried to uninstall it (and snaps) and the system became so corrupt he had to reinstall Ubuntu. So with forced updates you're at the mercy of them not making a mistake or a stupid decision, which they've already done by LOCKING FIREFOX TO THE SNAP PACKAGE MANAGER. Straight away you're left asking "Why are they still using SNAPS when lots of people are reporting the programs are slow to open"? Already there is a lack of transparency to add to this stupid decision. Adding everything up it's pretty obvious to me what's going on. And you Linux Fanboys are getting mugged off. Pfft. Good start - Good bye. Dunno why Chris didn't show us how slow FF was to open. Yet another hour of my life WASTED because of LINUX.

It's funny how much time you guys spent on an O.S which is not even used by 1% of the population. Even funnier is your intro, the computer looks like its based in late 1990. Have any of you guys ever wondered why Linux isn't catching up, isn't ever going to catch up? Never thought about asking the real questions? Always gripping at Windows but not actually looking at this product you are boasting being so darn good no one wants to use it? No wait I forgot! We're being forced to use Windows, yes, someone said we got no choice we're forced... that must be why we are using Windows!

I prefer Mint. I stick with it for over 4 years
@vstream7352 Says:
Linux Mint has better understood than Ubuntu that a simple interface (Cinnamon, Mate, Xfce) was better than the non-intuitive Gnome for Windows user who wants to switch to Linux. Getting all its other versions (Xubuntu, Kubuntu...) is a pain on the internet. Linux Mint website is way more simple to find all of them, and Debian can manage all those desktop environnements during the installation (but is it now so hard to install Debian ???). Snap isn't necessarily the best choice when choosing a way to install a software. When I've tried the new Kubuntu, I was surprised not to be able to install some flatpaks from Flathub because they don't exist. You are not connected to Flathub servers. I had to do the install ! Snaps can be very slow at launch. This can be problematic with Firefox because you use it all the time ! Installing original Mozilla's PPA and ban Ubuntu's Firefox Snap is difficult for noobs. The kernel is more recent than Debian's 12 one and it's not a LTS version if you refer to kernel dot org. One question : Ubuntu clearly wants to replace Windows. But I'm wondering which target they focus on ? Companies or Users ? IT professionnal won't give up Debian. Ubuntu is a company. Debian is community. Ok, Ubuntu have its fanbase. I'm not in every version they offer. But you should review Kubuntu who can be a powerful, elegant and fine tunning alternative for Windows users who thinks Ubuntu is more user friendly than Arch or Fedora.

I really like it. They've polished the icons and made a lot of other polishing improvements.
@tonyf8167 Says:
it still has the same issue ive encountered with every other Ubuntu LTS i've tried has had... on multiple different PCs over the years, you get these small seaming insignificant little errors that, over time, become not so insignificant. and ive never been able to figure out exactly WHY this happens but the solution is always simple, SWITCH DISTROS i really do want to like Ubuntu, i like its aesthetics, i never saw why everybody seamed to hate on Unity, Gnome, well they dont play nice with anybody but i digress Linux Mint, Elementary, Pop... never had any of the problems im describing with these, which really boggles my mind because theyre all based on ubuntu
@useduser Says:
ive never installed ubuntu that had so many issues first problem with sound after problem with gpu driver after problem with mounting after problem with wine after problem with youtube playback , seriously im surpriised

Another great video! Thanks. I just got 24.04 installed on my Pi 4 B 4GB RAM and 256GB SD Card. Everything works fine so far except Remote Desktop. I simple get disconnected with expired password error despite that I double checked my id and password, which get regenerated every time we login. The password get regenerated by the system due to the login process requires user to unlock the default keyring file. The password get regenerated before user has a chance to unlock the keyring file with his master password. I have a wild guess that it may have to do with session configuration not allowing same account signing in more than one. But I have no idea how to solve this. Not being able to remote manage my session is not a big deal but it can be if it is a headless setup! When I searched the net it seems that even in 22.04 this problem exists. I am not sure if this is a resource issue due to my tiny pi configuration. Perhaps you can help looking into this.

I lost patience with Linux, I'd rather they charge something Like £30 or whatever in order to get it useable and popular, If this is so good it should have taken over the world by now.

My favorite operating system that I have been using for 17 years. I installed the new one and there are errors with the Nvidia video card driver, the PGP plugin, etc. I hope that it will be resolved in time because the 22.04 was working perfectly!

Am i the only one feeling that 24.04 is little less polished than 22.04 ? 22.04 is a solid build, after facing problems with python for development, i am going back to 22.04 from 24.04.

Good video Chris with lots of information, I have been running this a while now but did not like the desktop setup so changed to KDE Plasma and this transformed the whole experience far more fluent and just nicer to use.

Good luck with transitioning to Linux! I haven't used Windows for about 20 years now, haven't missed it at all 🤣I think people should use whatever they're comfortable with, and with whatever gets the job done for them. For me, that's Linux. I feel just as enthusiastic (and delighted) with Linux today as I did all those years ago.
@MnemonicCarrier Says:
I never use Ubuntu any more. I really don't like their "multi-tier" maintenance/updates scheme (where if you sign up, you get extra updates, but if you haven't signed up, it nags you).

I have been enjoying Ubuntu for many years. I converted many older folks and new computer users to Ubuntu because people don't get in trouble with viruses and such with it.

Oh this channel still exists? And it reached 1 Mio Subscribers? That is insane, watched this channel 12 years ago :D Congrats for your subscribers. Thanks to your video on beating RSI I found the 3M vertical mouse which was a game changer, so I could continue my work as a Software Engineer, thank you for that. Since then I went on to split keyboards like the Kinesis Advantage2 and a more budget model that is perfect for my office work a split Perixx PERIBOARD-524. I would recommend anyone getting this keyboard and the 3M mouse if they struggle with RSI. Anyway thank you for that and I hope your channel grows even more, you are a good influence.

although i don't like the course of ubuntu during the recent years ( i hate snaps and their ''closed-source'' mentality!) , it is still a very good distro. one can not forget that it is the distro that made linux accessible for the average desktop user. p.s 6.1 GB download for an .iso file is HUGE! i think that less is more in this aspect.maybe with xfce, lxqt or lmde it would tale less time? great review as always. greetings from Greece!
@jbden142 Says:
Have you installed it on a Raspberry pi 5? I understand there are some problems with installation on this platform.
@TheSulross Says:
Not so many years ago the Linux community was getting really down on Canonical, but the last two LTE releases (last three in my book) have been Babe Ruth home runs knocked clear out of the park. Snaps is not much of an issue to me - just install Flatpak and move on to enjoying a superb Linux desktop experience. I find it superior in most ways to the GUI experience of Windows 10/11 and MacOS.
