Photopea sure sounds like a great program. I wonder though, it seems to me that it might be pronounced as a combination of the words 'photo' and 'utopia' - Pho-TOpia. I am looking forward to trying it on Linux. Thanks for another great video in a continuing series of great videos.

Great content, thanks Sir

Interesting video, Christopher. Unfortunately, I can't seem to get Photopea to open my Kodak (.DCR) or Nikon (.NRW) RAW files. The Kodak files show as just a black canvas, and the Nikons are corrupted, whereas Photoshop handles those just fine. However, am able to open my .PSD files in Photopea without issue. So, not a direct Photoshop replacement for me. ;-)

Photopea is the best, easy and intuitive
@YeOldeTraveller Says:
I would ask why using the PSD file is the requirement, and not some other gap in features? There are good examples of missing features for GIMP vs Photoshop in the comments. For my use, I have yet to find a feature from Photoshop (I use guides and books written for Photoshop) that I wanted to use that was not in GIMP. I'm willing to pay a reasonable amount for good software, but Adobe priced themselves out of non-professional work for me a long time about, and I have found little reason to re-visit that decision.
@chazcov08 Says:
So it's not pronounced "Pho-TOE-pee-uh"?

Sorry that we are a week behind, sir! Sometimes? Life gets busy and "Slaps You In the FACE!" LOL :-) Cheers! - Judson & Buddy!!

Is there a preferred browser to use for Photopea?
@skytechbits Says:
I love Photopea. Thanks Chris for sharing more details about each program. Your point of view is right on target.
@ep8029 Says:
Thanks! I'll give Photopea a whirl. Never been very happy with Gimp. Not very intuitive to me.
@MinaSchloch Says:
Well, GIMP not being able to load proprietary PSD files has not much to do with actual issues with using it for files created on a proprietary program.
@lewiskelly14 Says:
Another reason I can add to my frustrations list of Adobe 😂

Excellent video 👍 Thank you 💜
@RonLaws Says:
Photopea is actually one of the best alternatives out there, there is even a desktop app on flathub for it - though admittedly it is just an electron app wrapper, but it's nice if you prefer that over bookmarks in a browser. It's cheaper than Photoshop too, if you want an ad free experience, $5/m Vs. Adobe's $22/m The Electron App version of Photopea also appears to work offline, so that is a plus for having it over the browser. I'm not sure if it's cached or included in the flat package though.

Greetings from across the pond near Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA. It just doesn't get better than EC. It just doesn't. Such a treasure. Thanks for all your hard work.

Does GIMP now operate in colour space larger than 8 bits?
@rxmas7234 Says:
Thank you SO much for this video! I've been using PS since version 3 and have really wanted something portable, YOU have done it :) I always love your videos and can't wait to see whats next.

Does the spec of your computer effect how well Photopea works?
@KopiOkaya Says:
After 31 years with Photoshop, I finally unsubscribed Adobe Creative Cloud last month. Yes, after more than three decades of being exploited by Adobe, I finally gathered the courage and confidence to divorce them. Why? Because of Photopea. You see, I don't use the AI features in Photoshop CS 2024 but Adobe seems to be interested in selling us that. I am an old-school photographer. I learned traditional darkroom techniques, learned how to use Photoshop but I am simply not interested in AI. Furthermore, the prices of subscription are ridiculous these days. Sorry Adobe... I am done with you after 31 years.
@jeffdingle9677 Says:
Thank you for this excellent video. I have just registered a free account with PHOTOPEA using my Google Account, as it looks intriguing. Looking forward to trying it out properly very soon. It could be my "go to option" rather than relying on GIMP. Once again, many thanks for your interesting test videos - always worth a watch...
@ss-xy2im Says:
Why do you need psd files in the 1st place?
@cinemaipswich4636 Says:
All of Adobe's programs and applications have of a history of purchases that were added to their stable of their products. They hacked all manner of different structures, hoping they would not crash. Premier Pro (and all its disparate add-ons) is a classic example, where it crashes on a whim.
@lzappa9109 Says:
11/10. Thank you really appreciated.
@qqlove139 Says:
How to develop these online PS, online tooling ,does it use a framework?
@LordWillyGee Says:
I really don't care to used online programmed? Why, some will take it as their own Photo to sell or to giveaway on their websites? You are using their software w/o cost? And some charged for online software as: "Adobe"? But that just my thought.
@igormakuc Says:
Great, Photopea supports multiple languages, even Slovenian!!!
@chriholt Says:
Very impressive reviews, and Photopea is absolutely amazing!
@KadriZA Says:
GIMP is no where near as good as Photoshop but this photopea I've never heard of, worth a shot
@srvuk Says:
Very useful. One question that is perhaps not asked these days is whether we actually need Adobe products at all bearing in mind the advances that have been made elsewhere since they were the greatest game in town.
@AndersHass Says:
I have mainly just used canva for social media posts and never thought of it as a photoshop replacement, but interesting it could somewhat handle a photoshop file.
@MrStevos Says:
How about an OFFLINE Photoshop a Alternative ? A Mac with OS9 or PC with WIN7 & an old version of PS ! Works Great ! No cloud needed, No monthly $ !! 🤩😎
@androxilogin Says:
I've used PhotoPea on the go for a few years now and it has been excellent. Outside of a few shortcuts and something else I wasn't happy about that I can't think of at this moment (I think it had something to do with alt+tab; maybe ctrl+tab within the program. Someone recommended Canva one time and BLEK! It's more along the Instagram/TikTok kid stuff. I was wondering what would come out on top in this one but it came to be immediately apparent. PhotoPea is awesome.

A lot of love & respect from Pakistan. Your videos are always well researched. Donot stop making theses videos!
@I4get42 Says:
Very useful, thank you 🙂 If you have any thoughts on a Lightroom option that is cheap/ one-time that you like, that would make for a useful video as well.
@jimharris9584 Says:
Could you provide a link to that .psd file you used for testing so we can test other software?
@video99couk Says:
Corel PaintShop Pro user here. Just gets the job done.
@jpmyers6950 Says:
An invaluable video. I love to see a company like Photopea out do Adobe. The day can't come soon enough where Adobe is no longer the king of the hill. This video took a lot of work and I appreciate it Chris. Thank you soo much.

Useful stuff. Bookmarked!
@michaelmiller641 Says:
I'm lucky, I managed to get the whole Adobe suite 5.5 for about £250, some time ago, educational pricing, when I worked for a uni! Photoshop 5.5 still does everything I ever need to do, even now, and it comes with illustrator, InDesign. Acrobat etc.
@Sp0tTheC4t Says:
I assumed that Photopea was pronounced like Utopia rather than Photo-Pea - thanks for the correction.
@ShookD Says:
Don't get me wrong, I love your videos, they have helped me so much! But since "Google Photos", I don't trust online photo apps. Especially with my personal family photos. Don't trust clouds either.
@captainsemicolon Says:
What about Canva? 😉
@OliverWoodphotography Says:
I find that I can now manage a pro photography work flow with Raw Therapee and Gimp. Raw therapy is a really good alternative to Adobe camera raw and Gimp is very quickly Cathing up with Photoshop.
@markloughtonUK Says:
Photopea running in Docker would be an ideal. I'm always concerned that these online apps will suddenly disappear.
@x91w Says:
I like PhotoPea. One of it's killer features for me is the "Magic replacement tool" that is great for removing people and artifacts in life photos. Also I like the user plug-ins and although it doesn't support PS plug-ins, its library is increasing with the amazing effects.
