Breaking news: Popular Christian endorses violent book

????

Christians often feel conflicted when it comes to watching violence or secular movies that seem to promote themes that are anti-Biblical. And what about allowing our children to watch movies with non-Christian themes, where do we draw the line? In this interview with Sean McDowell, Frank gives parents some practical tips on how they can use the secular world to teach kids valuable life lessons that point to the absolute truth of Christianity and the Bible. Jesus sat with sinners. He didn't sin with them. Being sanctified from our sins is about trusting in God, having confidence that no matter what temptations and wickedness surround us, we are fearless to reject it. We can't go around terrified of everything as Christians. We can't prove our worth if we shack ourselves up, remain paranoid of everyone, and project preconceived notions onto others. Sometimes there are "scary movies" that we can look into the deeper meaning into that actually have a redeeming message. I used to watch scary movies as a way to regulate but realized it gave me disturbing sensations, so I don't go there as much anymore. Avoid anything that glamorizes torture and the demonic spirit of revenge fantasies.

Repent of your sins and believe on Adonai Jesus Christ, believe in your heart that He has died for sins and rose from the tomb on the third day and let the Holy Spirit within you, and you shall be saved. - Jesus the Christ loves, praise YHWH our Elohim - Evidence for Jesus Christ’s existence, crucifixion, and disappearance from the grave (He rose from it): The Lord Jesus Christ did exist, gathered disciples, and was crucified and went missing from the grave. To argue about wether He was taken from the grave or rose from it, is an argument a skeptic can make. Because well if you disregard the eye witness testimony of the disciples and there willingness to die for Christ, and humans won’t die for something they know is a lie, when Peter is pinned upside down to that cross, he could have said that it was a fake, but He didn’t because it wasn’t, what care would he have about death in this world if he knew for a fact he had assurance of a life in another, Jesus Christ did rise from the grave and is the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. Now the evidence for the Lord Jesus Christ’s existence really isn’t hard to find a multitude of non-Christian scholars and historians mention Him within 150 years after the time of His life. One such is Tacitus a Roman historian who reported on emperor nero’s decision to blame the Christians for the fire that had destroyed rome in 64 AD. Tacitus wrote: “Nero fastened the guilt ... on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of ... Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome…” In this Tacitus makes reference to not only Christians, but Christ calling Him Christus and confirming the Gospels going on to say that He suffered the extreme penalty (crucifixion) under the reign of Tiberius and by the sentence of Pontius Pilate, which like I said confirms the Gospels narrative. Another important source of evidence about Jesus and early Christianity can be found in the letters of Pliny the Younger to Emperor Trajan. Pliny was the Roman governor of Bithynia in Asia Minor. In one of his letters, dated around A.D. 112, he asks Trajan's advice about the appropriate way to conduct legal proceedings against those accused of being Christians. Pliny says that he needed to consult the emperor about this issue because a great multitude of every age, class, and sex stood accused of Christianity. At one point in his letter, Pliny relates some of the information he has learned about these Christians: “They were in the habit of meeting on a certain fixed day before it was light, when they sang in alternate verses a hymn to Christ, as to a god, and bound themselves by a solemn oath, not to any wicked deeds, but never to commit any fraud, theft or adultery, never to falsify their word, nor deny a trust when they should be called upon to deliver it up; after which it was their custom to separate, and then reassemble to partake of food – but food of an ordinary and innocent kind.” This passage provides a number of interesting insights into the beliefs and practices of early Christians. First, we see that Christians regularly met on a certain fixed day for worship. Second, their worship was directed to Christ, demonstrating that they firmly believed in His divinity. Furthermore, one scholar interprets Pliny's statement that hymns were sung to Christ, "as to a god", as a reference to the rather distinctive fact that, "unlike other gods who were worshipped, Christ was a person who had lived on earth." If this interpretation is correct, Pliny understood that Christians were worshipping an actual historical person as God! Of course, this agrees perfectly with the New Testament doctrine that Jesus was both God and man. You may have heard of the scholar Flavius Josephus who mentioned James as being the brother of the Lord Jesus Christ, which matches what Paul said calling James “The Lord’s brother” and there is another document that Josephus may have written which goes: “About this time there lived Jesus, a wise man, if indeed one ought to call him a man. For he ... wrought surprising feats.... He was the Christ. When Pilate ...condemned him to be crucified, those who had . . . come to love him did not give up their affection for him. On the third day he appeared ... restored to life.... And the tribe of Christians ... has ... not disappeared.” Now it’s up to debate wether this is the entirely original document of what Josephus wrote, or if a Christian had edited it. But regardless he wrote about the Lord Jesus Christ. Wether it was negative or positive like the possible document is. Anyways there are many other statements, documents, letters, and writings of all sorts from the ancient world talking about the Lord Jesus Christ and there is not one question if He was a real person or if He was crucified and went missing from the grave. That is clear as day, He is a real person, was crucified, and went missing from the grave. And He did rise from the grave. And for more evidence of the Lord Jesus Christ, there’s the Bible and you see there is no evidence the Bible is corrupted, a lie, created by the Roman government, folktale. It is the recount of the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, now wether you want to believe it is up to you. And what profit was there in spreading Christianity, All the early Christian suffered persecution, beatings, and were killed. Another Scholar reported that James the Lord’s Brother was thrown off a building and then stoned to death for spreading the Gospel in Jerusalem. These people went to great lengths even giving their own lives for Adonai Jesus the Christ. Amen

And why should I listen to these two and not the God of creation? Find out what holiness and righteousness are, and what a righteous person does and does not do. The excuse that I can make a Bible lesson out of it is pathetic. There are enough everyday experiences to use. Believers are spending God's resources on worthlessness and then justifying it. Walk the narrow path and keep yourself unstained by the world. What fellowship does light have with darkness?
@jonsnow0763 Says:
Watching a movie with violence like Braveheart, vs watching the Purge movies or Saw movies has an obvious distinction. However, don't fool yourselves into believing that hollywood is innocently producing movies and tv shows without a dark agenda. Just watch 20 Law and Order episodes and see how 15 of them are pushing an anti God perspective. wanna be worldly? or are you trying to identify with your young children? whatever your reason there is a true decision that needs to be made when picking what to watch. try watching 20 romantic comedies or just comedy movies like uncle buck or kate and leopold etc.. the phrase God Damn is in every one of them, like it's a prerequisite for producing the movie..
@billyd5917 Says:
The faith with out works is actually Love, Jesus teaches this he says the old law is done away with, that the new covenant is about Love fulfilling the Law (Jeremiah 31:31-34) and (Hebrew 8:11-13) and that not all sin's lead to death and that love covers a multitude of sin's, (2 Cor 3:6) talks about the letter that kills the law of Moses, but spirit gives life Jesus fulfilled the law, most churches try to bring you back into the law (Galatians 5:1) which is basically a work base salvation.

I'm really surprised Dr. Turek responded with "The Bible has violence in it and non-Christian themes in it; are you suppose to read it ?". The Bible doesn't PROMOTE sexual sins - fornication/adultery or L_G_B_T_Q behaviors. Just the opposite - 1 Cor. 6:9-11. Hollywood mostly normalizes this stuff. BIG DIFFERENCE.

@grcarie Says:
I think if the content is sensually emphasized ENOUGH, it BECOMES prescriptive, because it is illiciting a physiological and emotional response. Watching TV shows that make their bread and butter on how illicit they can be in a single episode are little better than pornography. Game of Thrones, Peaky Blinders, and many more, try to make the case that the content is essential to the story, but then they take away from the story to focus on the content. And the Bible strongly emphasizes that how we think internally is as important as how we act externally. That being said, I GENERALLY agree. Stories that contain violence or amoral sexual content do not necessarily have to promote those things or be too much for every individual to watch objectively and retain their focus. Some people are triggered by a simple kiss on screen, while others need more to be affected by the content. But might I suggest that media rating need to be carefully evaluated and required so that people can make informed decisions before exposing themselves to potentially harmful material.
@user-wu2bp9gb6z Says:
"Movies are descriptive, not prescriptive." You forgot that there are actors behind that screen acting out these violence, premartial sex just for the sake of entertainment too. I believe what we can take from this is to protect our children as much as we can from these contents, but also be ready to use "spot a lie" when they are finally exposed to them.

Frank: we can teach good lessons without “let’s open the Bible and see what we can do naturally” - you just took Jesus out of morality. Teach what’s good without pointing to the law giver. Exactly Time Changer movie premise. Also you said Bible violence is descriptive , it does not command us to do violence. But “making Hollywood violence “(however acted and not real) is exactly going against that command not to do violence. And even violence for the purpose for us to be entertained !

On Bible Sunday class usually they discuss certain themes at a certain age with different approaches according to age. And it is meant to inform/educate. Sitting for 2 hours in front of a screen that shows gore sex violence terror just for the sake of entertainment is totally different. 1st century Christians knew gore and violence , they were persecuted , but they would not sit in their free time at the colosseum watching lions eating people for fun. Not to mention Hollywood always takes the opportunity to blaspheme God or to include a lot of vulgarities. What do we think/feel when we read about Sodom or Noah’s flood or the conquest of Canaan ? Are we entertained the same way as when we watch Hollywood violence ?
@desmondbishop5808 Says:
Biblical themes ? I guess stories from the Bible have an Egyptian theme. Among others.

How is your mind renewed when you watch and do the same thing as the rest of the world?
@samanthakessel2773 Says:
Let's play a game, it's called, "Spot the lie of this video". The lie is that you can watch garbage/worldly movies and it is okay because the Bible has violence in it. Hmmm...I think Paul said it best when he stated, "God forbid!" James 4:4 (KJV) Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. I definitely do not agree with your conclusion on this one. You have quite a following and it is a shame people might take your advice on this. As Christians we are accountable to God for the influence we have on others. I would hate for you to have to face God knowing you advised other Christians to take more of the lies the world/the devil is selling. Very sad video, Dr. Turek. More of Jesus not of this world.
@BIBLEGYAN Says:
Agreed.... I have learnt a lot of Biblical lessons from watching Hollywood movies.
@the_alchemy_method Says:
Franks right. For a start some of the acts and atrocities carried out in the Old Testament are nothing short of barbaric and very reminiscent of scenes you would see in the Game Of Thrones. If we are watching something age appropriate or just in general day to day life when shes done something she knows is not good - I simply just ask my daughter “do you think that’s right or wrong...?”. Then i ask her - why? Then we can look at the feelings of guilt and connect it to our conscience. Then we set things up for a mini good person test. Ive foind adapting that quite challenging as for a 6 year old kid theyre not familiar with certain laws of God’s we have broken but lying, stealing and honouring parents are certainly three that got her thinking. Of course evrry little girl looks up to daddy and thinks hes good but we know the bible teaches us there is none good but God... daddy is not good but hes made good because of Jesus work on the cross. We were dirty before God now we are clean in his sight. Its a tough concept for a little girl to get but i try my best. Anyone been sharing their faith with their children? Id be interested to hear how you did it and how successful it was... Thanks

( According to the Quran Christians and Jews worship TRUE God ) (Quran 3:113-114) '' Not all of them are alike: Of the People of the Book (ie Christians and Jews ) are a portion that stand (For the right) They rehearse the Signs of God all night long, and they prostrate themselves in adoration. They believe in God and the Last Day; they enjoin what is right, and forbid what is wrong; and they hasten (in emulation) in (all) good works: They are in the ranks of the righteous.'' And God will surely support those who support Him. Indeed, God is Powerful and Exalted in Might. Note: Why did Allah protected Churches and Synagogues if they worship false Allah ? Ethiopian's Christian King Najashi who ''SAVED'' early Muslims lives will he go to hell? Abu Talib who protected the Prophet of Allah will he go to hell? Abu Lahab, Pharaoh, Satan and Prophet Muhammad's beloved mother Aminah, will be in HELLfire... correct ? Explain to me why does Prophet's mother DESERVED Hellfire? she died BEFORE her son's Prophet-hood. I am 100% SURE if Prophet's mother lives to see her son Prophet-hood she would have accepted Islam. Your mother will enter Heaven and your Prophet's mother will enter HellFire. My final conclusion: The '' BASIC '' message of God to the human is that '' YOU '' believe in God and be kind to other human beings / ANIMALS and in the RETURNED God will reward you with a new life in Paradise. * The Quran ONLY guides you how to become a good human being "Nothing Else". * You are a good human being or a bad human being that is YOUR choice. * No one can force you to become a good human being. * You MUST work HARD to become a good human being. * Why should ''YOU'' do good deeds and avoid bad deeds? * Do Good - it's for You. Do Bad - It's against you. * '' YOUR'' life is a TEST from God that you will choose to do either Good or Bad. * Find the excuse to help others and forgive others NOT the other way around. * '' YOUR '' final destination is either Hell or Heaven. * So work HARD toward choice of YOUR destination. Quran 17:7 " If you do good, you will do so for your own good. And if you do evil, it will be to your own loss." mmm

But what is the definition of "Biblical" as to ascertain what anti-biblical is?
@sierraclark6129 Says:
“If you declare with your mouth “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved” (Romans 10:9). Now is the time to accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior. Obey His commands and repent of your sins because Jesus is coming back soon. Tomorrow isn’t promised.

Literature and movies have always been teaching readers and viewers lessons about life and our existence. Sometimes these works of art refer to their own religious and cultural background. Sometimes they don't. There is no need at all to pull everything back to the Bible, and if you try to do that, there is every chance you will be perceived as "preachy".
