actually an American localizer asked a Japanese developer on a phone asking what the name of the game was, and the Japanese Developer answered in a thick japanese accent "Monkey Kong", but because he answered and a Japanese developer. The American localizer easily mistook it for "Donkey Kong" and that's how Donkey Kong got it's name
