I remember seeing this in a book during my childhood ie 80-90's, but yea trust musk to see something and claim its his. there was a reason we never made this prior.... and still cant why as I child could i understand this, and not these 'experts'

I know of a company that decided to not pursue a project to build automatic warehouse vehicles for Amazon because they had the “opportunity” to use that engineering time into an Hyperloop concept.

About HSR, would somebody please tell Casey Handmer, PhD that in France we already built 2,800 km of high speed train tracks, allowing for example to go from Paris to Marseilles in just over 3 hours. The two cities are 660 km apart by rail which means an average speed of just below 220km/h. OK... that's way slower than Hyperloop systems but... it is actually existing and in regular use. A similar system would allow for an HSR travel between DC and NYC in 1.5 hours or so. So... stop listening to Elon and buy french tech, guys. You have fantasies, we are delivering.

@Nivola1953 Says:
What’s really “amazingly disturbing” is how certain individuals, Donald Trump and Elon Musk, can go through a whole life of cheating, lying, bullying, bull cr#pping, the whole world and nothing happens to them, actually the more they lie and cheat, the more they are rewarded by their adoring fans. Is this the most socially relevant aspect of “freedom of thought”, the freedom to be a stupid “follower” of a dear cheating leader?
@JJbm4233 Says:
It’s hilarious that somebody like Linus from Linus tech, which recently was totally destroyed from a credibility point of view by Gamers Nexus proving that he’s an entertainment channel not a technology channel. The perfect Elon musk stooge.

@therabbitchannel2059 Says:
Also. thanking Thinderf00t for the reference to Robert Goddard who invented the idea in 1910. Musk probably got the idea from Goddard's work. Las Vegas tube has no ventilation and no fire protection if anybody knows the danger of fire in tunnels. Basically a glorified sewage pipe.
@therabbitchannel2059 Says:
I live near the Tucker County Hyperloop proposed center. I've ridden it many times on my 4 wheeler.It's riddled with old coal mines filled with pH3 water. Billions of gallons of it. The rock is lousy. Filled with faults. Sandstone and shale. My concern was how thick the walls of the tunnel would have to be and what material. My conclusion was stainless steel at least 2" thick. Just a guess. Thunderf00t might do some calculations of how thick the walls would have to be. Also the power required to suck down the tube and the consequences of a catastrophic failure. The whole thing was a fraud which I told people but with $500 million supposedly coming into the community nobody was going to argue. Now the plan is toast and the sewage plant paid for with taxpayer funds has been taken by the landowner and may end up as a taxpayer paid sewage plant on his new proposed tourist homes development on his other lands. Lands he nor anybody else ever paid a cent for as it was a mining claim. Now the coal is almost mined out and the guy is looking to make bank on the despoiled land that has been somewhat cleaned up with state money. He proposed to put worker housing in the old jail which he also owns. What a guy. Basically a grift from day one to enrich a guy who never worked a day in his life who is a mulit-millionaire and profited from the destruction of every watershed in the area. As far as I know Branson never visited the site.
@AndrewScott1337 Says:
Wow! Frickin epic heckin wholesome hyperloop. Can’t wait to take one of these in mars when freakin robots are helping us live on the flippin starship. It’s gonna be just like in the marvel movies I’ve based my entire adult personality on!

It would have been far, far better to have used China's technology: "China's high-speed railway network is by far the longest in the world. As of December 2022, it extends to 31 of the country's 33 provincial-level administrative divisions and exceeds 40,000 km (25,000 mi) in total length, accounting for about two-thirds of the world's high-speed rail tracks in commercial service."
@ZorroComputers Says:
I am sorry for sir Richard Branson. He spend so much money on a literal BS.
@aiwassmirko Says:
I find it incredibly funny how "Casey the PhD" defines the hyperloop "a terrible idea for the same reason as HSR is a terrible idea". But can't admit HSR with its own advantages and disadvantage EXISTS in Europe and Asia and is remarkably safe...

I don’t blame the West Virginia politicians and grandees for supporting it. Politicians are famously ignorant of science and WV is very poor. It would have been political malpractice for them not to compete for it, with the hope that the money would be spent before the technology was disproved.
@SiriusMined Says:
I've yet to see a futurist that wasn't a big grifter. Digital snake oil for the modern day.
@micheldesmarais7967 Says:
I laughed when I first heard about it. I am no engineer because it should be obvious that it was a stupid idea. I kept hearing the Simpson’s monorail jingle…
