I just want to complain and say that I feel like we're focusing on the wrong aspect (liftoff) with our space programs. Instead of trying to build an earth -> moon truck, we need to build an efficient launch solution and an orbital truck. The only part where I feel like SpaceX has it right is the part where we need a fuel depot. We spent all that money/time/effort to put the truck into space, why are we obsessed with bringing it back. There's currently nil for us to import from space and we could work out a glider for that. For a low effort idea, why not stick one of those empty tubes in moon orbit. Think Skylab on the moon.

So yes you make some good points though the lack of any useful yardstick to bolster your opinion... meh... Yes it is a moonshot in many ways though many of the new things he does is exactly that. The only difference is his success rate to others and his overly optimistic timeline. But look at all the other funded programs and costs and shutdowns and... so what exactly is reasonable?
