We were finally old enough to stay up late Sat nights so we religiously watched SNL, Monty Python and then Wolfman Jack's Saturday Night Special. The sooner that happens the sooner mental illness will start getting better, people will laugh more and especially post-covid people won't feel so isolated culturally. It's time to cast caution to the wind and LOL EVERY CHANCE WE GET (primarily at Leftists.)

That is so true about humor in academia. I have found those that are really the top in thier area of thinking and study can easily laugh at themselves and others. They know how rediculous some of this can be. The two groups that tend to have no sense are the posers or the new faculty that are suffering from poser syndrome.

I grew up without a lot of money, and one of my favorite things about the show Roseanne was that they lived in a “normal” house (like ours), not an inexplicably large and fancy house that made no sense for the professions of the people living in it. They had money worries, like we did, and made working class people feel like they mattered. The characters on that show reminded me of real people that we knew. It wasn’t fake.
