The big reasons many people (including retired detectives and researchers) doubt the Peter Tobin = Bible John theory. On paper, there are surface similarities — like age and location — but when you actually compare them, they don’t line up convincingly at all:
• DNA: The partial DNA profile recovered from the Helen Puttock case didn’t match Tobin’s. That alone is huge.
• Looks: Tobin had dark brown hair, brown eyes, and rougher, working-class features, not handsome at all — whereas every witness described Bible John as light-haired (reddish/fair), blue/grey-eyed, tall, clean-cut, and even good-looking.
• Personality and mannerisms: Tobin was crude, violent, and unrefined; Bible John was described as polite, articulate, well-dressed, quoting Scripture and speaking in a soft, “cultured” Glaswegian accent — not the kind Tobin ever had.
• Education and demeanor: Bible John came across as middle-class or educated, perhaps with a professional job. Tobin never had that kind of background.
Tobin has since been eliminated as a suspect by police. Many researchers think police and media latched onto Tobin because he fit the idea of an old Scottish serial killer rather than the actual description. Tobin dug his victims. Bible John did not. Tobin may even took inspiration from Bible John. Many psychopaths are enraged when a woman is menstruating because they cannot have intercourse with them.
If you go by witness sketches and personality traits, Bible John seems like someone who was handsome, charming, and socially confident, which is exactly the kind of person who could lure victims in without raising suspicion. Tobin was ruled out by the police.
Another suspect, John Templeton, who died in 2015, resembles the police sketch, had family links via DNA to the McInnes suspect, and behaviour that could correspond. As far as public records show, this claim hasn’t been confirmed or accepted by police; it’s under review.

Pretty sure blood and semen evidence only works if the person is in the system or if a genealogy test is done and his semen profile is in the database (that’s how they’ve caught some cold cases rapes recently thanks to science/technology being better).
Most people aren’t serial rapists though so when they commit crimes they aren’t in the database.
In addition they have to find the body within roughly 3 days before the evidence is basically non existent depending on the circumstances.
Fingerprints can lay longer but it depends. Honestly if I a body is under soil for months on end or even years it’s likely the decomposition would be so excessive contingents work stick.
Fingerprints are typically the only thing that is universally gathered, regardless of crimes. But that doesn’t always work either as many people come from countries that don’t have fingerprints or as illegal citizens, etc.
That’s why serial killer with seemingly normal pasts like Ted Bundy are so freaky cuz you never expect them.

Looking at the sketch of John, he has fine features that are female-like. Since the murderer may have been a large and powerful woman who dressed and posed as a man, there are some pointers that support that supposition. The polite attitude of John, the fact that he left sanitary napkins at the death scenes, and his rage at the dance club may point to a feminine like personality.
The only issue is that semen was found on Helen's clothes at her murder site. This may mean that Bible John was a hermaphrodite. He may have had both male and female reproductive organs.
It's been haunting me for some time as to whether the police have considered this and have followed up on it. If they haven't, then maybe they should.

If he has never been caught it’s probably because of three different reasons, but realistically but most likely only two reasons:
1. He died
2. He moved from the area and relocated to evade suspicion
3. He learned to suppress his urges/fantasies
Interesting case tho. I feel the police interviewed the killer while going undetected. Some serial killers will inject themselves into homicide investigations to avoid suspicion.
