Such a tragic story; Mary Queen of Scots appears to have been manipulated and exploited by the men around her. She was no doubt guilty of her part in the conspiracy to overthrow Elizabeth I, but she paid the ultimate price. Denied a relationship with her son and executed at only 44. I wonder what she would've made of her son uniting the thrones. Would that have been her plan?

As far as young maybe unprepared rulers she was one of the strongest in her time. I feel like had she not bothered england and just focused on improving and stabalizing Scotland and maybe assisting France shed have been an incredible ruler

Is this the same Queen mary that appeared,as a ghost,to QuennElizabeth on *THe Crown* ?
@MoonChild-yg3nw Says:
I believe that Mary must have been the most stupid queen in European history.... SMH. She brought it on her self. She knew the rules of her time but chose to ignore them and the expected no punishment for it. She had it all she was queen of France, and Scotland and threw it all away for men that didn't give a damn about her .

Fake picture not the real image of the real Mary Queen of Scots. the truth will no longer be hidden

The Casket Letters were forgeries and you know it.
@maxalberts2003 Says:
I don't know why you had to pick on Mary, Queen of Scots. You sound suspiciously pro-England.
@chthoniccannon5495 Says:
She was locked up on an island in Loch Leven not a lake.
@alexthelizardking Says:
Lost one crown then tried to steal another. How un-queenly.
@damor6467 Says:
Quite a few mistakes in this one, quite a number of incorrect portraits, It was henry 8th who was awarded defender of the faith. Not your best one sorry
@carolel4025 Says:
Too much voice speedup, unnatural
@armandotalampas4800 Says:
Being British, Sir Simon should've made this video longer, as long as the one he made for Emperor Augustus. A 45-minute long episode, I think the longest video of Biographics so far..
@steveweinstein3222 Says:
Why at 8:17 are you showing a picture of Mary Tudor?
@LoJo Says:
As a historian said in a longer documentary on Mary, "She didn't have a lot of sense, but she had great style."

Could you do an episode on Queen Liliuokalani? Or just about the overthrow of the Hawaiian kingdom? I was born and raised there and would love to see your take on an event that defined my home state

I have been waiting for you to do this one! Yay!
@TheRealJaneSeymour Says:
A fact: Elizabeth actually changed her mind about having Mary killed, but it was sadly to late the execution had already happened. Elizabeth was adamant for a long time about having her cousin and fellow Queen executed, even though neither one actually met in real life, they wrote to one another very often. It's a shame that the world pushed Mary to be the way she was, trying to be Queen of both England and Scotland. She probably just wanted to rule Scotland in peace.
@yummyinmytummy5894 Says:
She hid for a few days in an old abandoned castle about 10 minutes from my house during the time she was getting hunted

Henry was succeed by his son Edward VI, not Mary.

@jontaedouglas7244 Says:
Mary marrying Henry against Elizabeth’s approval was her first mistake. Yes, she was a Queen of her own right of her own country but a country right next to a hostile England who had already invaded Scotland plenty of times by this point. Her trying to strength her claims to the English crown while simultaneously trying to befriend Elizabeth was a big no no, especially with Elizabeth being a Virgo
@jontaedouglas7244 Says:
If Mary would have just not provoked Elizabeth as she didn’t provoke her sister Mary then she would have been fine. Elizabeth would have had no choice but to name her her successor ( Mary’s claim to England was real and the biggest threat to Elizabeth ) she would have been the only Queen of 3 countries (France,Scotland,and England)
@helenafarkas4534 Says:
there are enough portraits of Mary queen of scots at multiple points in existence that your continued use of a single image that is known to be Mary 1 (Bloody mary) is inexcusable. I'd have a word with whoever does image searches for you Simon. I just did a google image search for "mary queen of scots" and NOWHERE in the results is that portrait you've used more times than any other even half way through this video. truly not one of your better works
@zevkramer6154 Says:
Hey Simon on several occasions you've shown a picture of Mary I calling it Mary Queen of Scots

@devastator6570 Says:
Correction, Henry was succeeded by his son Edward, who was then succeeded by Mary. I love your videos Simon! Keep up the great work!!

@armandotalampas4800 Says:
I also love the classic biopic of Mary Stuart "Mary of Scotland"(1936), starring Katharine Hepburn. Fredric March plays Lord Bothwell and Florence Eldridge as Queen Elizabeth. Ian Keith portrays Mary's halfbrother, James Stewart, the Earl of Moray. Not to mention, this classic was helmed by the legendary John Ford. The film depicts a fictional confrontation between the two Queens. I love that scene!
@armandotalampas4800 Says:
Queen Elizabeth didn't start the precedent of executing queens. Her half-sister Mary Tudor, ordered the execution of her predecessor Lady Jane Grey in 1554
@RichO1701e Says:
Watching this, being reminded of school history lessons, just reminds me how much I HATE RELIGION! Especially forced theocracy from the state.
@doittoit4116 Says:
Wait I thought Mary was the daughter and of king Henry the 8th and half sister of Elizabeth

Imagine my sadness when I expected the Monty Python sketch on Mary, Queen of Scots.
