I'm afraid that, while Dr. Peterson reads well, and articulates to near-perfection, when he reads his own writing it is bloodless. This pales next to his impassioned delivery of these same thoughts extemporaneously, where it is delivered -- rather than performed.
I've noticed this with a few great speakers. Not that they should be unprepared, but that they detract from their own work by over-preparing ... by writing out their thoughts and then reciting them down to the commas, exclamation points and italics.
I love to hear Peterson expound on important issues of the day or matters within his profession, but I get tired listening to him reading his own work with painstaking care. Listening to this I thought about why it seems so dry compared to his extemporaneous delivery of expert wisdom. I think I have a clue.
On numerous occasions I have heard him speak of a live speaking occasion -- as his series on Genesis as "the act of thinking", insisting that explaining things to others isn't merely transporting thoughts from one's brain to another's by way of mouth and ears -- live, dynamic, extemporaneous explication of complex matters *IS* thinking. It is what thinking is.
At other times I have also heard Dr P make a similar claim about writing -- the very act of writing down one's thoughts is where those thoughts exist. In a sense one does not even understand the subject matter properly until one is fully engaged in writing (and/or speaking) about it.
But it seems to me when one completes the act of writing and THEN begins the act of reciting that writing one is not so much thinking as playing the part of a record player, playing back thought that has already occurred.
And that is how these read essays come across to me. I so prefer to watch and hear the good Doctor in the very process of thought.

I've been a follower of your wisdom for sometime, and a problem I've felt as a younger viewer in his 20s is that I feared living in a hellish world of fire and treeless landscapes that has been oh so painted into my brain by what I realized is propaganda. Despite the serious nature of this video, you have inspired a true kind of hope that so many others would not bother to participate in, and that drives me to be a member in the community of realistic, actionable decisions to make real change for the betterment of our planet and for ourselves.
What I've most realized is that the solutions, as you noted when discussing nuclear fusion and algae production, is that we know what we need to do as a society, but the climate alarmism and constant negative propaganda driven by the media, both on the large scale and individual fronts, had successfully manipulated me, and I imagine others, into fear and inaction. After all, I'm not going to stop driving my gasoline car just because the left is screaming at me that carbon is bad. I like many others, depend on these systems to craft a life for myself that is spiritually richer and better than what I have previously experienced. Barring me and others from meaningful careers that could give us the skills needed to make real change just so that we don't drive gas cars anymore is not only foolish, but downright authoritarian.
