You were thinking "that thought" fueled by your environment, state of mind, emotional regulation skills at the time. Alot of things in your life...environment are factors in decisions.
When we look back we say, ugg, fucked up there due to NOW having better tools to work with and more knowledge at this time. Experiences, too.
He is right. It is not a cop out.
@cozmonauts932 Says:
In my interpretation of biblical morality is that there’s one unforgivable sin: betrayal of God, blasphemy. That is, when you know the will of God, what is good and what is evil and you have all the information you need, and you still choose evil. I think that’s what JP was getting at, I think all of us are guilty of that unforgivable mistake. Now I have no idea what this means in terms of God’s forgiveness, does he forgive unforgivable sins? What does that even mean?
@cozmonauts932 Says:
I think JP held his tongue here, Jocko says you make the best decision based on the information you have at the time. That’s true sometimes, but not always. Sometimes we make the worst mistake and make the worst decision with all the information we could ever want. Jordan knows this I’m sure he’s seen it in his practice, and probably what he was saying at the start is that’s the unforgivable mistake. Doing something terrible that you know is terrible and will hurt you and others around you, it’s probably unforgivable.

@KristinFischer-xm4db Says:
Believe it or not, that is what is meant when the bible says we are all sinners. Being a sinner doesn't necessarily mean that you committed a crime. It's actually that none of us are God, we are not perfect with perfect intentions and we never will be. Which is also why a human being even one appointed by Jesus Christ as one of the 12 disciples is going to get it wrong including how we decipher passages in the bible.

@JenGable-Justeson Says:
You go Jocko ...! Sometimes people do make decisions based only on the information that they had. If we are referring about a criminal case, then sometimes the case needs to remain open, because gathering information is ongoing.
@MeldinX2 Says:
Very true. This is why i stopped caring about what others think. And i never regret things i done in the past. If someone take offense then it's their issues. The past cannot be changed. So why even bother caring about it? It just add stress and makes you feel bad. Instead of just moving foward and focusing on the choices you can make right now/in the future.

It comes to that word, "Sin," and what exactly is "sin"?
Nu Elck Syn Sin
Why a y?
Why an I?
Why the line under the I in y? Ayin, ע
To Each His Hiss;
To Each His Sentence
To Each Sign Signaled
To Each Sine Signed.
To Each His Sentence.
To Each HIs "Own"
To Each Hiss Hiss;
To Each Shine, Shine.
To what you behold, you behold.
What is a sentence?
What is a sine?
Sin, is something we are born into, and the negative value of sin, is still measured in sound, a hiss, ש, Σσς, ס, samech is after נ, why? Hint, dreidel game, what happens when you spin "nun" traditionally?

Nah. “Best decision you coulda made with the decision that you had”. Ain’t gonna tell my whole story here but that certainly isn’t true of my errors. I just messed up. That is a cop out in my case and I can’t be the only one.
@coachtammylee Says:
I agree that I can’t change it now, and I’m not gonna tear myself apart, but no way in hell did I make the best decision I could with the information I had. That for me, is a copout. I could have made better decisions but didn’t. The first step for me to heal is to admit I did not make the best decisions even with the information that I had. The second step is to learn from it. The third step is to make sure it never happens again.

I've been drowning myself in guilt and regret for a terrible mistake that I made 8 months ago -- breaking up with my best friend. It felt like the right thing at the time and I was convinced she'd be better off without me. But I haven't been able to stop ruminating about how much it hurt her. I've totally destroyed my life and sense of faith since.

The best thing about our mistakes, knowingly or unknowingly , isGod loves me, and at times, his way of loving me hurts . By allowing me to hurt, I learn to love , because when you hurt , you might get mad, but if you stay mad, that’s bad, but when you break down, and weep , like your at rock bottom, he’ll pick you up and you’ll be stronger every time this happens through life . Maybe it’s easier for me to see myself for who I am, and admit my flaws, than it would be for others, who find it hard to deal with, maybe they can’t get over what’s been done to them, maybe it gives them some form of feeling of being a special case, and the attention and shock of disclosing it, makes them feel different than others . To be heard and helped is a form of getting serviced and attended to. . When your helping someone, somehow, your not sure if they talk with you because they want approval and justification, or t they actually need your help and advise
