It is a little frustrating that parts of this interview, several minutes, are not available to the viewers because ads have been added that overwrite the audio of the interview as the interview proceeds. Normally an interview is paused in order to insert ads but the ads in this interview, mostly, were dubbed over the top of portions of the interview.

I came here to listen to dr. Chris Palmer but ended up listening to Jordan Petetson as he was the only one talking and interrupting his own guest. Such a disrespect.

Thank you so much gentlemen for noticing these patterns and thinking outside of the box! This is huge. I hope the medical community will take this information and run with studies and recommendations for patient health.

Hasn’t JBP’s physical and mental health been absolutely wrecked since going carnivore? That’s literally what has happened, so he’s delusional or something wtf.

He misunderstood and misreported the story of Jesus and the boy with epilepsy. Jesus did say to His disciples, “This kind comes out only with prayer [some manuscripts add ‘and fasting’].” However before He said this Jesus commanded the demon to leave the boy, which it did, immediately. The reference to prayer and fasting was not as a recommended treatment for epilepsy, but what the disciples could do to be able to expel certain kinds of demons.

@Michelle-go4io Says:
The paraphrasing of Mathew 17 went a bit far there. He said This kind is only driven out by fasting and prayer. Not implied that the child himself must fast but rather as an extension of the act of prayer. Also, Jesus healed the boy instantly before he made this remark to the disciples.

Fantastic information that every doctor and health practicioner should see. Sadly, it'll probably take decades before health professionals will bother to adopt this or hear about it.

Inuit have always eaten loads of berries, like crowberries, cloudberries, and blueberries, gathered in summer. All year around seaweed, harvested from coastal areas. Even roots and tubers occasionally dug from the tundra (like masu or wild rhubarb). Then there is stomach contents of herbivores, sometimes consumed (e.g., from caribou), which could contain partially digested plant matter, and mosses, lichens, and other tundra greens, though these were rare and seasonal. The Maasai have always eaten Maize (corn), used to make ugali, a porridge-like staple (even more common today), beans, sorghum, and millet, used in soups or porridges, wild plants and herbs, used both medicinally and occasionally as food. Fruits and vegetables were rare in the traditional diet though.. So both peoples have always gotten some fiber though their meat heavy diet.

I was put on antidepressants because I complained of fatigue all the time. I never felt depressed. Antidepressants made things worse, so I ended up with more medications piled on over the years. I started Ozempic and the antidepressant I was on became completely intolerable. It was already not doing anything I could tell before the Ozempic, but after it I had to get off it. I’m still feeling fatigued, but it turns out I have vitamin deficiencies. I feel so much better not on any psych meds and all the symptoms that were labeled as depression, it turns out were side effects of the different meds I was on. The way the medical field does things is backwards. If someone had done some simple blood tests on me beyond a basic panel, I wouldn’t have wasted two decades of my life on all those meds.

@Pythagoras-Plato-Aristotle Says:
Discussion with Dr. Chris Palmer on Mental Health and Metabolism: Guest Introduction: Dr. Chris Palmer, affiliated with Harvard Medical School and McLean Hospital, discussed his 2022 book Brain Energy, focusing on the link between mental disorders and metabolic dysfunction, particularly mitochondrial issues. Core Hypothesis: Palmer argues that severe mental disorders (e.g., schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, major depression) may stem from metabolic disorders mediated by mitochondrial dysfunction, the cell's energy factories. Ketogenic Diet: He has explored ketogenic diets, similar to Peterson’s daughter’s lion diet, to improve mitochondrial function, reduce toxins, and induce autophagy/mitophagy (cellular repair processes). These diets mimic fasting, historically used across cultures for healing. Mental vs. Metabolic Disorders: Palmer distinguishes between mental states (normal human suffering, e.g., grief) and brain disorders (e.g., unexplainable depression, psychosis). He posits that metabolic issues underlie the latter, offering actionable treatments like diet changes, exercise, and addressing vitamin/hormone deficiencies. Depression Categories: Peterson outlined two types of depression: With apparent cause: Linked to life circumstances (e.g., no job, relationships, or purpose), where antidepressants are less effective. Without apparent cause: Seen in people with functional lives, where antidepressants often work better, suggesting a biological basis. Palmer agreed, likening the latter to a brain disorder where depression networks misfire, analogous to pain disorders. Mitochondrial Role: Mitochondria produce ATP (energy), molecules for neurotransmitters/hormones, and heat. Recent research shows they regulate neurotransmitters, inflammation, gene expression, and respond to trauma, linking biopsychosocial risk factors to mental illness. Ketogenic Diet Evidence: Palmer shared a case of a patient with schizoaffective disorder who, on a ketogenic diet, lost 160 pounds and saw psychotic symptoms remit. He cites extensive research (e.g., epilepsy treatment) and ongoing clinical trials supporting dietary interventions for mental disorders. Cancer and Diet: Peterson raised his wife’s survival of a rare kidney tumor, possibly aided by a carnivore diet. Palmer noted that while ketogenic diets may slow tumor growth by reducing insulin and inflammation, they’re not a cure, and patients should work with oncologists. Dietary Experimentation: Palmer supports elimination diets (e.g., carnivore, ketogenic) to identify food sensitivities and induce repair processes. He advocates for personalized approaches, as no single diet fits all, but suggests water-only fasting or carnivore diets for severe cases, with a 3-month trial period. Broader Implications: Palmer emphasized that metabolic strategies offer hope for disorders deemed incurable, with ongoing trials at Harvard, Oxford, and elsewhere. He shared stories of patients achieving remission from bipolar disorder and other conditions, supported by initiatives like the Metabolic Mind nonprofit. Closing Thoughts: Peterson and Palmer agree that severe mental disorders should be presumed metabolic/physiological until proven otherwise, backed by decades of genetic and neuroimaging studies converging on metabolism and mitochondria. Practical solutions like dietary changes are available now, empowering individuals to take control of their health without waiting for new treatments.
