replaying this game now with nothing but the normal greataxe makes me wonder why people think the game is THAT bullshit in terms of difficulty. yes it's hard and yes some bosses take a good amount of tries but everything seems to be very doable as long as you don't completely neglect vigor. but i understand that not everyone knows that vigor needs to be your highest leveled stat in the early to mid game

I do dislike that if you really want to experiment then you have to do new game plus. I want to switch my character up 50 times. I want all the unique weapons I find cool/fun to be easily upgraded. But if you're playing through one time, you have to basically stick to one or two weapons and that's it.
I want to experience all the cool spells and incantations but also all sorts of different weapons armors and shields. I've stuck to one main style for the entirety of my first playthrough (I just got to the mountain tops of the Giants and I now feel so weak after feeling so strong)
That's honestly my biggest complaint. I want to try all the play styles on my first playthrough. I hope their next game keeps that sort of thing in mind. At the very least, allow us to move our upgrades from one weapon to the other without needing to farm an incredibly limited amount of upgrade materials.

I absolutely love Elden Ring, it’s probably my favorite game of all time but these criticisms are extremely accurate. Two things I will mention are that you sometimes get almost punished just for exploration, when I just started the game I accidentally teleported to Caelid and felt like it should’ve been a much later game area. Also, some areas and bosses are just so extraordinarily hidden that you may as well not do them for 5 full play throughs

Having finally played and beat this game (but only one time) I agree 100% that it's an absolutely beautiful world that I loved getting to know, but actually playing the game was 50% horseshit. Honestly it's not even the Legend/Demigod bosses that bugged me, but the jackass field bosses and endless deluge of jackasses who exist only to chip away at your flasks between one grace and another.

I never knew how builds works in these games since ds1. I just play with a broadsword until i find some better weapon or spell to use. Then build up to be able to use them 😂

For me the difficulty is the way they deflect the player to other areas, if you bump into enemies that are one shotting you it means you're not meant to be there yet and you need to go explore in a different direction. Where I think it REALLY needs improvment is the UI. Why is the inventory system so bad? You can't compare gear stats easily, heck, you can't even pause the game! Also having a radial menu for spell and gear selection is something that's been done by games for AT LEAST 15 years so there's no excuse for them to not be doing something similar, especially for mages.

I love how this guy acknowledge everything that made the game great, gave it the time it deserved to have a good understanding, and the last part where he said that the game ultimately just funnels most players to have the same broken cheesing build to beat some of the late game bosses, and that most grabs and attacks just kill in one graze or breath of its pixels is cheap and unfun, I felt that personally, like finally someone said it.

The reward system is what makes this game overrated: like 90% of the stuffs you tried so hard to find or fight for is useless to you. Sure they are useful if you switch class but that doesn't make your character stronger. They should allow you to grind for things the make your own build better, like having a dismantle system or forging system make rewards useful for all classes at the same time. See what other grindy games are doing: monster hunter, nioh etc.
