Inside Tesla's Massive $13.5 Billion Gigafactories

????

Inside Tesla's Massive $13.5 Billion Gigafactories. "A machine that makes other machines" is what Elon Musk called the greatest production plant of current times: the Gigafactories. What are these monstrous industries and why are they so important, not just to Tesla but for the tech industry as a whole, why are they the future, and what more promises does Elon have in store for us, stay tuned to find out. Now, first up, what does the word Gigafactory actually mean? As we know, Giga is a unit of measurement meaning "billions". The owner of Tesla, Elon Musk coined this term as he laid the foundation for the first of his production unit. But now, this description is used to cover massive scale production units that are built in stages and promise efficient, low-cost electric batteries in a very short time. Elon can call dibs on the name, however, since almost everyone in the technology and automation industry refers to his production units as the Gigafactories. Up next, how many Gigafactories are there and where? Let's take a look Though Tesla has production units all over the place, a few of its completely autonomous units are referred to as Gigafactories. How about we start on them chronologically?

Kinda funny how the first four factories were measured in square feet by the narrator but Texas was measured in square meters. 🤨

Corrections: 1) Solar City was purchased by Tesla in 2016. Since then, Solar City has operated under the name Tesla. 2) At 2:30, the cells pictured are not 2170 cells; they are are 4680 cells—the new larger cells that are entering volume production in 2022. 4680 cells will eventually replace the smaller 2170 cells that have been produced by Panasonic at Giga Nevada since the factory opened in July 2016. 4680 cells offer 5 times the energy and 6 times the power of the older 2170 cells while only requiring about twice the space. They will give Tesla a significant lead over other EV makers in both range and performance.

Why does Giga Berlin cost $7B and Giga Texas cost $1.06B ?
@clncl98506 Says:
Seems many of the points are wrong or outdated info. Giga Shanghai is already meeting less than 45 sec per car and it is mostly fully self sourced. Both GigaTexas & GigaBerlin already in limited "trial" production, and although GigaBerlin is waiting for the final permit, GigaTexas is good to go in terms of the final production. GigaIndia ? Not likely at this point.

95% of components are locally sourced! Please get your facts current.
@MrAndrewAu Says:
anyone else clicked in here because of that fake cybertruck assembly thumbnail and got disappointed?
@davefroman4700 Says:
The only thing Tesla imported into Shanghai initially was batteries. And they won't do that anymore with the completion of BMP 2 on the site. BMP 2 will be coming online in April.

had to wonder. Berlin is a smaller plant than Austin yet you say it cost 6 billion more. Thought this odd

Buffalo and the Tesla solar division is thus far a failure. Tesla would be better off converting this facility to produce vehicles.
@tusharsaikhedkar9808 Says:
I don't think so Giga India will be made any time soon. Simply introducing Tesla cars in India is getting extremely difficult. Indian Govt. is not that favorable to Tesla.
