I just don't see how this is too similar to the last one. yes the core combat system and basic web slinging system is the same, but they also added a shit ton of new abilities, some new gadgets, new webslinging abilities (gliding and whatnot) along with performance enhancements like the new fast travel system, better graphics (the lighting looks more natural now) and you're a lot less limited in how fast you can swing. Spiderman 2018 definitely feels last gen compared to this game. Spiderman 2 def isn't goty but it still delivered for me.

calling this game spiderman 1.5 is too generous, they should have called it spiderman as well. honestly i wanted to love it but it felt like such a slog. it's not that i thought any of the characters were "woke" i just thought they were all supreme dorks and not a moment of the plot felt suspenseful, surprising, or even interesting. the game was extremely unchallenging from the beginning and any difficulty whatsoever was transparently manufactured by just increasing enemy HP or quantity of enemies. upgrading skills never felt cool and there are no interesting new gadgets. the gameplay in the first game definitely got repetitive towards the end, but it was mitigated by the joyful ballet of spider mans movements and the novelty of the city. this game felt redundant from the beginning, with copy pasted combat that's so easy there's simply no reason not to spam the same OP moves over and over or just mindlessly button mash through it. and even though they added some parts of brooklyn, you definitely feel like the city is smaller cuz there's just so much less to do in it. i'll give credit that the few missions you play as venom feel new and different, but he's the most OP part of the game and those missions can't sustain even their brief run time. it's fun that mary jane gets a weapon and gets to fight this time, but it actually made me miss the challenge of using her in the first one.
it's dumb af that i wrote this all out, because i would still recommend the game to fans of the first, but it's just more of teh same and not nearly as impressive as the original just because we've seen it before. i know i sound mad but i'm really just disappointed cuz the first one was so fun, i was hoping for another fun experience, not the same experience i already had.

Overrated as fuck in my opinion. To be serious, Spider-Man fans will lick up anything they get. This game has some obvious flaws. That guy wasn’t wrong when he said it’s woke. Besides yuri, there isn’t a single diverse character who is EVER perceived as “bad” by the other characters. Peter was unfairly shit on throughout the whole story and it’s sad to see him be sidelined at the end of it.
