Glad to hear your plans for reviewing operating systems, after a decade my trusty old windows 7 pc is nearing the end of life, and im trying to decide on wether to go to windows 10 or 11, or wait and jump onto windows 12 assuming it rolls out this year. Cheers

Hi Chris, I'm confident you are the person to inform us about AI, especially AI on SBC's.

Why not try some noctua fans? They're really quiet and I use them on all my computers and 3d printers. You won't be disappointed!

I’ve been watching your channel for years and it’s top of my list for simple and thorough explanation of computing. I’ve started to use Juypiter lab for micropython project t development. It’s a very flexible way of combining documentation, reference material with code development. I think it’s ideal for beginners as well as professionals. May be you could cover it in a future video?

ive been in technology for over 30 years and you have great content. I would love your take on home automation as i'm buiding a smart home and will be leveraging home assistant and pi's to deliver it. Cheers and happy new year.

What a shame on the NUC market Intel had a great thing there I really liked the compute stick If anyone remembers that I own two, one is still sealed It has Ubuntu 14.04 on it Very limited unfortunately Only 8GB storage

With windows 10 being finished in 2025 i will be using Linux mint most of the time and will need a different printer. Could you do a program on Linux comparable home printers please.
@strouja Says:
Thanks. I love your videos and get a kick out of your long pauses between segments. I have been building computers for friends in my family and others for over 20 years now, and still learn from your channel.

Congrats on 8 years of useful content generation. Amazing achievement. My commiseration on the tinnitus; it’s a devilish affliction.

You are the best computer content channel on YouTube (as far as I can see) at explaining technologies and emerging options for us regular users. I just recently got Nobara Linux running with Wine and EVE Online (MMO sci-fi space game). The real story here is that I was able to do it entirely by point and click with my mouse. This distro has really upped the game on user interface improvements for getting Windows software to run on Linux with Wine. Maybe like mid-to-late next year you could see how this distribution is developing and do a piece on it. Your videos on the small form factor PC's inspires me to work on an idea for stuffing a mini PC inside my current tower case, so I can have two independent computers (without losing any desk space) running side-by-side, so that the EVE game server will see two independent PC's to validate the running of an extra free--to-play account. It also allows me to have multiple displays without burdening older hardware. The tower I have is an older 4th gen - i5 3.6 GHZ - 16GB RAM - 1TB Disk - AMD Radeon R9 M360 4GB. A used i7 mini PC with better graphics than this older one would be just perfect. I would move the primary game account over to the faster new internal system, and use the older one for the extra account and simultaneous web browsing (to display 3rd party game database tools). Many EVE players have multiple subscriptions on multiple computers and have the same commitment to this game as a typical car racing team does to their sport.

Congrats on the 8 years of regular videos. They have become my Sunday go to. And sad to hear of the tinnitus. That can be nasty. I'm wondering what kind of sound dampening one can develop for the fans to lessen the chances of the fan noise causing harm to users in future.
@taidee Says:
Yeah, you've been in it for a while now Prof, good to see you are still motivated. We will be here as you go along, keep up the good work.
@Elenduful Says:
Hi Chris, happy 16th anniversary since creating this channel! I have always enjoyed your educational content. I was sorry to see Explaining The Future content go away, but now I really look forward to your quantum computing videos! I really appreciate the thorough research you clearly do for your videos. I'm certain you'll meet 1M subscribers next year!

How about computer language videos with Linux apps you need to use it? For instance, I'm planning on learning MQL5 to program expert advicors on metatrader 5. Which is based on C++, which I'm interested in dabbing in. Which Linux app allows programming in C++? Format could work for python, scratch or retro basic from the 80s.
@jeffdingle9677 Says:
Very interesting Chris. Looking forward to 2024. Incidentally have you looked at the distro "Void-Linux" on the Raspberry Pi 400 - I'm sure many others would be also interested in your views, if you have. I can empathise about the tinnitus - I have lost 95% hearing in my left ear but I can still hear the tinnitus, which sounds, at times, like a kettle boiling all the time 24/7. About 10 years ago, in my 50's, I had a BAHA (Bone-Anchored Hearing Aid) fitted to my skull behind my left ear so that my right ear (cochlea) can hear sounds from my left side now that the left ear cannot hear any more. My advice is to try and ignore it (and after 10 years I now generally do) and having background noise (like the radio or music playing) can help to mask it and focus the hearing part of the brain away from the tinnitus on to more important things and sounds. Hopefully your hearing hasn't yet fully deteriorated, fingers crossed.... In the meantime hope all goes well for you....

I am so happy about the good news. Looking forward to the new content. 🎉 I don't know if you did but you can talk about computer vision for AI. One of the problems is that embedded neural networks are not expected to be very performant. The technology for model minimization is not there yet. Although Google Gemini Nano might be a surprise, you never know.

This channel deserves 1m subscribers, it's one of the best on computer tech on YouTube for me. Very well presented and totally balanced.

As a 16+ years sufferer of Tinnitus, I can tell you nothing helps. Silence makes it worse because you can hear the loud ringing worse. I have 4 fans inside my Ryzen for air flow and cpu fan for cooling plus GPU fan lol. It would not be feasible for me to make a passive cooled pc for the intense 3d work I do in Blender. I don't find the fans to be a "trigger" if anything they drown out the loudness. It's there all the time and even my GP recommended a radio for background sound hence the reason I have to sleep at night with a smart TV on in my bedroom streaming rain sounds. I wish you luck with it, it never goes away only get's worse.
