Dr. Frederick W. Kagan is a former professor of history with a PhD in Russian and Soviet military history from Yale. He is also a celebrated author and the director of the American Enterprise Institute's Critical Threats Project.

The reality is the USA wanted to stop Russia from selling and trading goods and gas to Europe, wanted to isolate the country and in return increase the capacity of American oil and gas companies to sell their product to Europe. Also the American army industry is getting big money and so on.... US always mess it up all around the world. Don´t be naïve, the US is happy about this situation. Mr. Jordan B Peterson, just say your interviewee does not understand what is going on in bweteen Russia and Nato (through Ukraine). Frederick Kagan is expressing his own opinion without considering in other fact (historical, geographical, cultural, etc.) that can force a bemol on his views.
First of all, this whole matter to go to war is not from a devil mind that is Putin for many western analysts, but a Russian elite matter; then a Russian matter.
Secondly, this as an important appel to emergent and other countries all over the world. This is an international issue. It's not just a Russian-Ukrainian issue.
This takes us to the UN general assembly resolution, that has no importance in reality. It's even worse if we consider why this resolution was taken to the General assembly than to the Security Council of the United Nations? The danger of destroying the UN itself! For most of countries that preferred to abstain, there were asking why Ukraine should be taken differently from Serbia, from Irak, from Libya, and so on. No, it was not a condamnation of Russia.
Thirdly, only few people would understand the choice made by Frederick Kagan to ignore that Russia is a nuclear deterrence power. And so on!

It is very interesting to hear this perspective on things, however, I'd like to address some issues that I have with this way of painting the picture. Specifically, what bugs and enrages me with mr. Kagan's line of thinking is how in the first video he presented the US and NATO as this innocent and fair organisation. Basically saying that they welcome anyone, please join us in our establishment of peace all over the world and stating that Russia is just this power hungry, huge ego maniac country which has never in the history been provoked or manipulated, therefore suggesting that NATO members are the opposite of that. When he spoke about how the west "supported" Russia and the last Tzar has made me especially mad because we know for a fact that Nicholas II was a relative of King George V. He has in fact reached out to his British cousin for help when the Bolshevik Revolution started and the UK has intentionally decided not to help him and let Lenin kill his entire family. And when countries like that are blaming Russia and Putin in being aggressive and threatening independence of Ukraine, it just doesn't sit right with me. Let's go back a little and look at what the US has been doing in other countries over almost a 100 years. Just google the list of wars involving the US! And NATO joins them in other countries' business all the time. Just read about what they've done in Vietnam in the 60s, it will make the hair on your arms stand up! Have you thought about why Serbia is the only country in Europe that hasn't joined the sanctions against Russia today? Because NATO has destroyed them in the 90s, bombing Yugoslavia, leaving them ruined to serve their own agenda. The way he's portraying the situation where Ukraine now is this brave nation that is fighting on their own is such hypocrisy. The US and the EU are supplying them with huge amounts of weapons! The US has always been making money in wars while sitting on their separate continent in safety. Many of the things that mr. Kagan is saying are true and right (for example, how the Russian government has failed to explain to its own people initially why they are waging the war against their own slavic brothers), however, the interpretation that NATO and the US had nothing to do with "poking the bear" seems completely untrue to me. It is good to sometimes look at your own actions before judging others. Also, not one word was said about how Ukraine has been bombing Donetsk and Lugansk regions since 2014 for being "pro-Russian" and refusing to drop Russian language in schools. Not one word about how Crimea has always been a part of Russia before Khrushchev has decided to give it to Ukraine in 1954, and no one has stopped to ask a question why Russia has taken it back in 2014. This video doesn't show an objective perspective of a historian to me at all and I would love to see some debate rather than just accepting mr. Kagan's view of the situation, to make it more in the frames of proper critical thinking. This is, of course, my personal opinion and I would welcome rational arguments that could potentially change that.
