Actual productiity and getting things done: Windows. Light stuff and online things: Linux. I hate it is like that.

Don't wipe that system. Adobe CS5 if I recall has had it's activation system decommissioned. So you can use it if you still have it installed, but you won't be able to activate it fresh ever again.

I recommend "Lubuntu" for all old hardwares and for every day use.

Installed Zorin OS Pro 17 on my Dad's 2014 Laptop, and he is more than happy with it. He was used to Microsoft due to his work, but I pushed him slowly towards FOSS & Linux, after he retired in 2007, but still used Microsoft! But for the last 6 or so years he has become comfortable with Linux. He is primary usage is around Scrolling web, watching YouTube, using Social media, Loves editing photos, and is without any issue switching between PhotoShop & GIMP, also has been now constantly using Libre Office along with MS Office & can now easily sort out any difficulty arising from comparability between Libre & MS! The main reason for Zorin was its Zorin Connect(for Android only), his primary Smartphone is Samsung S23, and also has an iPhone 13 Mini & Nokia 220 4G keypad phone(these phones are the best). No complains so far! Zorin & Linux Mint, in my opinion are the easiest for anyone coming from Windows, my Mom also finds Zorin & Mint, very similar to Windows in most of her use cases! For Mac OS, atleast in my experience, Elementary OS is without the doubt the, easiest to learn around, for people used to Mac OS!

After many Distrohops (Manjaro, Arch, Debian Testing, Ubuntu Fedora, Mint...) i use now Debian Stable with KDE Plasma and a good Backup Strategy. Debian is the Distro, in my Eyes, which has the least Suprises and has lots of support. Also Chrooting is very Comfy for Maintainance thanks to the very Good Live-USB.

I also have Windows XP running in a sandbox. On my old 286, I run Windows 3.1, and Atari DOS on an 800XE. I’ve loved computers since 1984. Thank you for your wonderful videos, Christopher.

Do you have a video on configuring arch linux as a distro?
@Fenras_98 Says:
Ubuntu has never worked on any computer ive put it on. In my experience ubuntu has the least when it comes down to hardware compatibility and reliability although i know that isnt the case for everyone. Actually debian based distros in general dont seem to work or run as well with my old asus gaming laptop or my current thinkpad t480s. Those have always worked best with RHEL and Arch based distros such as Fedora and EndeavourOS. The latter of which is what i currently run on my thinkpad. I sold my gaming computer tho to afford a gift for my daughter tho so i dont have that anymore. It was an Asus RoG Zephyrus M16 (2022). It was a beast of a machine. Anyways what an amazing video though. Ive always loved your content and it helped me switch over from Windows 10 to Linux 5 years ago and i havent looked back since. Thanks for all the work you do on this channel.

I love that you repurposed a bunch of older PC’s. One man’s trash is another man’s treasure for sure. I also get enjoyment from that as well. I especially like the solid previous generation of small form factor machines and mini’s. Many of them come with decent i5 and i7 chips and make fantastic Linux machines.

I use Pop_OS!, WIN 10 [Home] & 11 [PRO], Ubuntu & Bliss OS most of the time, while the win 10 [Home] & win 11 [PRO] are permanent, while also having some temporary win 11 installs & loading back-ups on laptops with win 11 [Home] for a project, until they need to be reset again (loading those backups again)

For me; Laptop is Windows 11 or Linux Mint (mostly use Mint), Phone is Android, Tablet is Apple iPad and also have an Amazon Fire Tablet which I occasionally use, no smartwatches yet just a good old fashioned watch. This arrangement works best for at the moment.

Getting rid of Recall from Windows 11 is probably the single most important thing you need to do. I think many people don't realise what it is and they really need to check into it. Luckily there are guides on YouTube explaining how to remove it and all other bloat from the OS. I'm looking forward to Steam OS very soon this year. Then I will probably finally get rid of Windows and have Linux on my Laptop as well.
@ray73864 Says:
I actually preferred Chrome OS Flex's predecessor, Neverware CloudReady, they had a 365 education edition version which allowed you to have it so students could login using their 365 account, it then auto-signed them into the office 365 apps, supported network printing, etc... Shame Google bought it out and killed it off.
@ray73864 Says:
Gawd I was glad the day MS created the ribbon, my efficiency skyrocketed because it I found it far easier to use. I find it difficult using LibreOffice (Although it is my daily office productivity suite) because it's too old school :P This is coming from a person who used Office right back from the very early '90s. Still have every one of my original Windows installation disks / cds for DOS 5, DOS 6.22, W3.11WFW, 95, 98se, XP, etc...
@TroubledTrooper Says:
I got Debian on my laptop and Arch Linux on my desktop. Also the Win7 section is so bittersweet. It just shows that if we could all just use Win7 it would be perfect, even though I love the UNIX-like environment and I wouldn't trade it for Win7 _now,_ if I could have just used Windows 7 I probably would have never made that switch. I guess I should say thanks, Micro$oft. I also would rather just use Win7 if I needed to run software that refuses to support Linux.
