Toyota Announces A New Car To Compete With Tesla. The gloves are finally off! At the Shanghai motor show in April this year, Toyota came out with its competitor against Tesla cars. The first in a slew of 15 new all-electric models. Toyota's all-electric concept SUV may launch by 2025. Before then, I'll be showing you all the juicy details I get about the car and examining if it can beat the existing Tesla models.

Since Toyota had no real interest in selling evs, why don't they just rebadge some of the BVD models and sell them? BVD has a great battery, chips, and its own motors. Toyota can use BVD's skateboard and put their shell on it to make it a kinda Toyota. It would be better than this BZ4X.

Wow, a Tesla beater. I thought they had a new Toyota instead of this thing. The BZ4X is all flash and no dash. This thing could not beat a used Tesla in range and charging. The industry was excited to see the BZ4X until the real specs and price came out. Then when the Utubers reviewed it, they quickly pointed out all the flaws. This ev will be best for a two-car family, with one ev and one ice car. The BZ will be great for a low-mileage driver, using it around town and commuting. This is not a highway car, only charge it at home to save yourself the headache of slow charging and low range. But if they don't gouge the price with markups, they will sell every one of them.

Hydrogen is stupid, inefficient, and obsolete compared to a Tesla Model 3/Y. 95 percent of the time you are charging during the night at home so you almost never have to go to a fuel station. On the occasional road trip with current charging speeds you can get 150 mph of range (20-80 percent charge) in 20 minutes. the charging speeds are only going to get faster over the next few years. Also charging your electric vehicle is only 30 percent the cost of gas or hydrogen. On paper Hydrogen cars look like a viable competitor to electric cars. In real world use they are not. Simple Google search reveals MRE electrolyzers require 48 kilowatt hours (KWH) of electricity to produce 1 kg of hydrogen. it takes 12kg to fill the tanks of these Toyotas giving you 280 miles range. 12x48 = 576 kwhs used compared to charging a Model 3/Y which is about 80 kwhs. You are using 7x times the electricity to create Hydrogen fuel to get your electricity for your Toyota rather than just plugging in the battery of a Tesla.

Last week I called a dealership in SF to reserve the BZ4X. The salesperson who answered the phone said $18K addon on top of the $44K for its lowest-priced model. I ordered a Model 3 the very same day.

Toyota had the electric jump for SO many years. Tesla took the RISK Toyota wasn’t willing to take. Because of this, even these Toyotas coming out in 2025 won’t be able to “compete” with Tesla as they have such a substantial lead. Is it a good thing Toyota has finally gained more confidence in BEVs? Yes, considering they seemed to have had made their biggest bet on Hydrogen powered vehicles. That said, when these finally come out in/around 2025, they probably will sell well!
