I had a spot of bother installing a brother printer. It is an older printer that only connects via USB. I connected it to the file server which runs Ubuntu 24.04.4 Lts server. I found that I could install a Brother Driver Package which has all sorts of drivers for Brother printers which solved the problem. I published my experience on a blog belonging to the Bald IT Guy, I think it was. If I can find the link, I'll drop it into the reply below this comment.

I am new to Linux. Thank you for your videos!!! But installing the Nvidia driver on Linux Mint that way only works with Secure Boot disabled. I think that it is not so easy at all! I am trying to find a good guide on how to install the Nvidia drivers while keeping Secure Boot on.

Very well done! I have learned once again. Thank you EC channel! :)

GREAT!!!
@GNoneyabusiness Says:
How can you pull drivers from one distro and use it on a different distro? Say something works in Ubuntu but not mint or vise versa. Is there a way to pull those drivers or is there a terminal command to install those drivers?
@hilaryweiner893 Says:
Excellent guide. I was fortunate that my Brother laser printer installed automatically, but my Epson Perfection V39 is not as cooperative with Mint even after downloading the driver from the Epson website. After looking for guidance, it appears that this particular piece of hardware is not supported. Rather than force the issue, I ordered a Canon LiDE 300 which the Mint community members say installs automatically. Well worth $75 to avoid the potential frustration, and I'm sure some Windows user will appreciate finding a scanner that works at Goodwill.
@ArtemusLingenfelder Says:
One of a few nightmares in Linux! Adding or hoping to add a graphics card. Along with CD/DVD ROM. Along with Printer/Scanner. Still the same issues almost 20 years later! Not conjecture, FACT!

hello i have a ricoh sp 112 (i'm using linux mint Xfce btw) and when i plug it it gets detected and the driver is installed and everything seems to work find but when i'm going to print a file or even do a print-test the printer doesn't do anything and it shows on the queue that my job is being processed and then it disappears, i'm not sure what is the problem if anyone knows how to fix this please do respond, thank you.

Hi. I just switched to Mint/Cinnamon on my oldish PC that didn't have W11 support, and I'm loving it. I had an issue with the graphics card driver. The GPU is a GTX1050Ti and with the recommended driver, nvidia-driver-535, steam games would not launch. I got a lot of bad advise from AI, but finally I chose a later driver, nvidia-driver-580, and now everything works as it should. Thank you for introducing Linux to me.

I would like a wifi network printer 🖨 sharing on linux video. At my home we have mulitlple PCs in different room sharing on economical Brother Laser printer 🖨 via wifi love a video on that topic .

Thanks again Chris for your Lessons in Linux. I'm inspired and excited by this OS, which I haven't felt in Windows for a decade. I feel like that young man I was in the 90's again!
@jakobw135 Says:
Is there a Linux driver that runs the HP 400 black and white LaserJet printer?
@jamesrichey Says:
Love this stuff!
@nickstoic2944 Says:
Thank you for sharing, Best video on printing so far. Used cups many years back, Fedora 12 I guess it was, but when it comes to Linux printing is still pretty bad, which is disappointing.
@chrisr7597 Says:
I could be silly. Asking just in case I missed it if you mentioned already...for Linux Mint specifically. When downloading then installing the latest NVIDIA driver, does the process remove the previous (old) driver automatically? Any need for a DDU like program to remove said old GPU drivers?
@eziolinux Says:
Excellent video, drivers are always such a pain, but you sir introduced the argument wonderfully. I have a question, what if I have to change the GPU from Nvidia to AMD? Should I purge the Nvidia drivers and install the new AMD ones, or Linux does it automatically?
@bedfordcf24x49 Says:
I wonder if you would consider continuing this series into slightly more advanced territory. In transitioning from Windows to Linux two main things tripped me up. 1. Mapping network drives and mounting them on startup. 2. Mounting drives in the user's Home so they are directly accessable by programs (e.g. adding folders to Plex Server libraries). I think a video on these might help others.

🙏🏼 I've specced out my upcoming *dedicated Linux Mint* build to use an (ASRock) Intel Arc A770 GPU that I picked up during last year's Black Friday sales ... I hope it works! 🤞🏼 (As for the printer -- I'm not sure I'll be using one -- but I'll hunt around for a suitable HP or Epson model if I decide to. 👍🏼)

Im just in love with Zorin OS I think is the most friendly Linux distro with win users.
@DanielField2023 Says:
Just install Zorin OS 16 Pro Great i have a canon image class mf 4370 dn it doesn't work Zorin look for driver not found I got the driver for windows Zorin 0S 16 Pro find the canon on the network but it need the driver to run not found in their list so i stay with Windows for now. no linux driver for my canon laser .
@keepsformat Says:
This was very helpful, thank you!

Really appreciate this Linux introductory series. I'm getting less and less interested in paying top dollar for windows or mac computers. its getting out of hand. Most of what I do online is youtube/websites and really the only thing I need a computer for is spreadsheets. Thanks. I would like to see some content about what kind of phones people who tend towards Linux use. Thanks.
@MM-zc6qv Says:
I've been distro hopping for a while. I think I'd pick either Mint (w/ Twister UI) or Zorin (as my friends recommended). But I like the auto-detect printing system for Linux. I wish they had that in Windows.
@Myrulv Says:
I have been using LINUX for many years, also professionaly. I still find your videos use full. : )
@HailedMainEvent Says:
Brother has good Linux support too, in my experience.
@stevesculptor1 Says:
Wow what happened at 21:17 ? what is Execute ? This is the first time I've installed software on Linux, I have the software on the Terminal. what next ?

Hi Chris. I am a newish subscriber and have happily bought a Raspberry Pie 400 and changed my OS from Win 7 to Linux Mint on my desktop. I wish I did this years ago as things actually work. In my 50's PC's are still a learning curve, but easily use Linux Mint as my work and University have access to Office 365. We just have to get to it and Windows 10 or 11 is a very expensive way of doing this. Just put Bionic Pup 32 Bit on a flash drive for my partners very old HP laptop. Thank you for posting. Your videos are very helpful and unlike some American YouTube computer videos, you don't shout at the camera and assume we know what is being shouted about. Thanks
@44linuX Says:
So nvidia!! **** You! 😂 "A great man said"
@DocKingliveshere Says:
You need the nvidia drivers if you want Handbrake to use your graphics card ram to convert files. WAY faster than not using them.
@garyjohnson4608 Says:
Don't waste your time looking around for a Linux compatible all-in-one inkjet printer for home use because as of July 2022, there are not any on the open market since virtually all printer manufacturers no longer make or market any.
@brentvalentine Says:
Thank you for this video. I am building a 'new' computer and I have been searching for a GPU. Nvidia is still in the running for the upgrade, pricewise. This video has come at the perfect time for me. Thanks
@MicrobyteAlan Says:
Yup I’m back, I just imaged Zorin on a PC’s NVMe m2. Blistering fast. I was also able get my nvidia graphics card to work. Thanks 👍👍
@GeneralChangFromDanang Says:
I love how Linux will find all my peripherals without me even having to tell it. It automatically installed my printer, my bluetooth and my wireless keyboard and mouse. Windows only got one of the three.
@canalsenhorpezinho Says:
good cristian. you inspired me 😃🇧🇷
@cheungs7 Says:
I have a printer connected to a Linux Mint machine, but I want this to be shareable with other PCs on my Wifi LAN (other Windows and Linux machines). Could you have a tutorial around this topic? Thanks! Love your videos!
@mrh829 Says:
Wow, the Epson Stylus Photo R300. The only reason I've kept one of those around is for its CD printing ability, but it's arguably difficult to keep a seldom-used Epson printer working nicely because of plugged up print heads.
@Flight1530 Says:
keyboards and "RODENTS" should plug and play..... lol
@GamerBoy705_yt Says:
Just wanted to tell this. I've been binging your videos for 3 days now and the production quality (even though it looks simple) is excellent and the videos are really informative and accurate. I wish I could've seen this series a year ago when I switched to Linux. Thanks for the work!
@Chris-op7yt Says:
indeed gpu drivers are slower to be developed and debugged on linux, even by brand sake companies. had lots of black screens on several linux distros during install on a pc with a new gpu but based on old tech. was especially painful during transition to no more vesa text mode allowed era..but those modes are still there in hardware lol
@YuGiOhJCJ Says:
If you are looking for the driver of a specific printer on Linux, you can go there https://www.openprinting.org/printers and download the driver for your printer. Sometimes it is just a PPD file that you can download directly. Then go on http://localhost:631/ to add your printer manually using this PPD file.
@NathanChisholm041 Says:
I hope that's the DDR5 version and not the DDR4! There are two Nivida GT1030 cards and the DDR4 is 60% slower than the DDR5 version! Nivida and its doggy practices...

Well, I have a Canon MG2522 Ink Jet Printer attached to my Dell Optiplex 790 running Window 10. I'll check and see if there is a printer driver for Raspberry Pi Debian 32 bit Desktop OS, as you have suggested. As always you are helpful to those of us fairly new to Linux I've been mucking around with the different distro's for a while and just keeps my old mind cogs running so I don't need any grease to keep them turning.
@davidpriestley3268 Says:
I’ve found Brother support for Linux very good.
@AveryChow Says:
printer support was really easy for me! I just went to print something in firefox, and my printer was already there as one of the options! super awesome how easy auto detection has made it.

@aman-sood Says:
wait.. I need additional drivers if I have onboard graphics? I did search for drivers none came, is that alright or I have to dig around more?
