Just got into Kdenlive for video editing on a Mint PC and want to migrate to a Pi 5 in the coming months. Your video showing the work-arounds is welcome news. Thanks much! Cheers and continued success to you!

thanks you help me with kdenlive😀🥰

10:17 How is the microphone working? Your headphone is connected to your monitor that is receiving audio via HDMI, but I guess it can't take audio input!
@Biaanca5036 Says:
Trimming HD video on 'small' hardware isn't so bad, just different.
Like on a 20 year old windows XP machine, editing HD video stuff is more like writing your own timesheets and preplanning stuff on paper with every scene//chapter being its own file. Then you encode it all and combine afterwards to save ram.
On a modern computer it's seemingly done more scattershot: I see people put absolutely everything into one giant project file and a lot of focus is put on wiggling the scrubber(which isn't a real preview in most programs to begin with) which is an insane way to work on stuff if you think about it.
@Benwick921 Says:
Can you run Windows 11 or Windows 10 on that raspberry?
@mediocreman6323 Says:
Who else is watching this video on a Raspberry Pi 5? I switched to an RPi5 (with an Argon One V3 case, with an M.2 drive and everything) for reasons of noise, and, first of all, power consumption. Even under full load, the Pi would never even come close to exceed 10W, a figure my PC could not even come close to when idle even under the very best of circumstances. And so far, I guess I would hardly ever have a reason to use my old PC again.
@naturetech9983 Says:
Thanks Man! What about the cooling with the official case and fan? a test would be nice :)
@samhainpirate Says:
Thank you Chris, I love your videos, you have been a massive help in the past, now I can use kdenlive again.
@martinsmith5028 Says:
Hi Chris. I see that a water cooling option is available for the RPi5 being sold by seeed. $120
@Auraxium Says:
"We can see ducks and stuff"
Say no more, I've ordered one
@DataDashy Says:
Orange pi lol what a stiff not even worthy for comparison that lq garbage hw
@VincentGR76 Says:
Tried Kdenlive on my Pi5, I got green screen on both video preview windows for some reason 😕

Please, new videos for Explaining Future channel!

Only RK3588 is Samsung's N8* 8nm silicon. The larger ones are more power hungry and get quickly deprecated. This is due to the unbelievably large amount of processing power required by non-quantum AI applications.
*There is a Wikipedia page titled "International Technology Roadmap for Semiconductors."
@BrianBoniMakes Says:
The PCIe SSD boards are out, please try this test again!
@dennisanderson8663 Says:
Teams gives me PTSD now because at work the Outlook Presence add-in stopped working after the upgrade to Office 365 and I've literally tried everything. I swear in my obituary it's going to say something nasty about Bill Gates.

Still waiting for my pre-order to be sent. (Nov 12 2023)
@bubuAdm Says:
so, great news about the passive cooling !!!
thanks for the test !! 😊😊😊
@Crustenscharbap Says:
Very interesting and fast PC. I really want to see how it runs on Intel N100 CPUs. They are in the same price range and are x86.
@neelstheron3252 Says:
Great video! How about a video running Windows 11 on the Raspberry PI 5?
@Miafunfactory Says:
As an early Vic 20 adopter.
I'm looking at this like the monkeys in 2001 looking at the monolith
🗿
Amazing...
@VapersGaming Says:
hai sir....how many os will suport in this pi....?
@kotgc7987 Says:
Any chance of testing how many Chromium tabs can be opened until the Raspberry Pi 5 crashes please?
@danieljames1921 Says:
Very cool to see Kdenlive running on a Pi . Thank you.
@TerenceKearns Says:
i thoroughly enjoyed this video. Thanks so much.
@jaksmith6465 Says:
why the usb2 port instead of the usb 3 port?
@dooshmasta Says:
Was this a 720p video? The render time is impressive.
@georgekokotis5732 Says:
During the previous weekend, the local authorized dealer in Greece had a formal presentation of the Pi5. One of the exhibited Pi5s had a 90deg. heatpipe passive cooler fitted - like the ones one may find for gpu cards. With top grade thermal paste being used the temperature during stress tests would not exceed 49 degrees Celsius on an 26 degrees ambient temp
@godnyx117 Says:
Thank you for the video! How does Raspberry Pi 5 compares with ODROID N2+ (plus)?
@miketony2069 Says:
The teams demo was great. Would be interesting to see the rest of the online office suite on a rpi5.
@8gr154 Says:
large heatsink is blue one ? and where can i buy it??
@wchandle1 Says:
Thanks!
@Coxis67 Says:
Hi Chris! Great video as always. I would've loved to see the official Pi 5 case included in the temperature comparison.
@stephenhookings1985 Says:
After watching this video Chris has accidentally (??) Demonstrated his time machine. The video of him editing himself editing his video gives it away!
I really want a Pi5 (2 or more) when they come out.
Maybe a collaboration with Jeff regarding using Pi5 with PI4 as a k3s. Sure - normally 16GB ram is necessary but I am sure it can be done.
@francis400 Says:
windows 11 seems to update very often as well.
@WilReid Says:
I wonder if running kdenlive on top of the X emulation for the RPi4 too would see a large amount of overhead slowing its render test. I don't have an RPi4 to test, but would be curious if the emulation is causing a huge performance hit on the RPi5.
@tommyle628 Says:
Too bad the Orange Pi 5 will never have the community support and tons of cool mods. Meanwhile, we are most likely stuck with the Pi 5 for a while.
@cmdr_pressy Says:
thx for the temperature tests
@chriholt Says:
Very impressive for the 5! Plus I really enjoyed the collab with Kevin :)
@tinkertron Says:
Overclocking might improve your video editting! 3Gzh on CPU and 1Gzh on the GPU
@NOPerative Says:
Excellent showcase; end-to-end results are incredible.
Wonderful video, as usual.
@digitalmediafan Says:
Chris what's your personal view on no 3.5mm speaker output ?
@icecog Says:
Thanks for the tests! I am also wondering how is 1080p YT video if your system boots from SSD? Will RPi5 drop frames?
@LilRedDog Says:
🤔🤨Oh, come on!!!
I want to see it water cooled; or at least drop some dry ice on top of that skyscraper of a heat sink!!!🥶
Drop in an aquarium filled with distilled water!!! 🧐
😇
@kattz753 Says:
I'm so looking forward to getting a new Raspberry Pi. But...I just stopped by the Orange Pi site. A new Orange Pi 5+ is up for pre-order. It has 32 GB of RAM and a full 2280 NVME slot for about $250 Canadian shipped. That includes case and power supply. I'm not sure what anyone would use all that RAM for but it's there if you need it. Unbelievable choices these days. Oops, missed that it also includes 256 GB emmc. Now THAT'S an unbelievable deal!
@christianvitroler5289 Says:
Thank you for the informative video and the clear explanations. Looks like my first Linux computer will be a Raspberry. If it is good enough for video editing, it ought to be good enough for most things
@LuyolaAdams Says:
Do you think we'll (eventually?) be able to render videos using the new GPU? Have Raspberry Pi said anything to indicate this may be possible?
@thornbottle Says:
need a windows 11 on pi update for the pi 5, see how responsive it is
@joeg3950 Says:
I keep looking to decrease my desktop footprint to make room for decorations and other forms of distraction. This may fit the bill to realize that dream. Additionally, I’m excited about the new Pi 5. Thanks for an informative video! Again, great content!
