Fedora always uses the graphical desktop environments in their "pure", standard form. They don't modify them.
@CyborgZeta Says:
I like Fedora's Atomic desktops. Specifically, I've starting using Bazzite and Aurora, which are made using Universal Blue. Bazzite is optimized for gaming (it replicates SteamOS on other handheld PCs), but it also suitable for a gaming-oriented desktop like mine. Aurora is an improved version of Kinoite, offering better driver support and what not OOTB.

Is there an option not to use a login name and password like there is in Windows?

If you want to install one of the "spins", are you supposed to have the base Fedora 36 already installed? Or do you just install the spin as a stand alone ISO?? New to Linux distros somewhat so unlike Linux Mint where you pick which distro version you want whether it's Cinnamon, Mate or XSFE; This is a bit confusing.

I really enjoyed watching this review. I've used GNOME since version 1 and forget about how odd it is compared to other systems. You can drag a window to the top of the screen to maximise it, I find doing that much easier than clicking a maximise button.
@rinkukhamari Says:
how to Remove fedora logo from bottom-right ?
@technoWZ5598 Says:
Nice video! And I must say, Fedora is not a bad Linux distro, although I feel like it is for more advanced computer users. I've used Fedora in a virtual machine in the past, and it's still much harder to use & configure than something like Linux Mint. Speaking of Linux distro's, have you heard of one called Peppermint OS? If not, it's a light weight distribution that looks a lot like Linux Mint, except it has a black and red theme to it, although it functions much the same as any Debian based system. Would you be interested at looking into Peppermint OS?
@souravas Says:
I agree. You shouldn't need to manually add these features using extensions. Once you add maximize/minimize buttons, app indicator icons and a dock, it becomes similar to Ubuntu. Fedora doesn't have snaps, which makes app load times slightly faster than Ubuntu.
@8ghaly Says:
12:13 you could double click ribbon to maximize And (super key/ windows key) + H to minimize I know it's annoying to use keyboard to minimize but i kinda like it and don't want it to change.
@geog8964 Says:
Thanks. Start learning Fedora.
@brentsummers7377 Says:
This is an excellent review of Fedora & its spins. I definitely like the KDE and Cinnamon versions. As for Gnome, Bill Gates and Steve Jobs would have fired anyone who thought 3 clicks to open a program was a good idea.🤣🤣

You are the one and only who sees, shows, criticizes and introduces operating systems exactly the way we want the way we need, it's like you are our own eyes and hands in doing so, it's like you can read my mind then do the review of the system answering exactly my inquiries and/or fulfilling my curiosity and interest. Thank You thank You thank You!

Really loved the review, been daily driving fedora since 34 and it just keeps getting better. Looking forward to 37! Navigating gnome is a thing in itself, use of the keyboard is the way to navigate, everything is instant, just a bit miffed why you insist on clicking your mouse on things while using gnome, you can maximise by dragging to the top and snap left and right by dragging to the sides. Would not use KDE myself it drives me mad and feels clunky, gnome is what Apple wishes it could be 😂

I thougt Centos Stream sits between Fedora an RHEL

I personally love pure GNOME desktop
@NullStaticVoid Says:
Yeah, I'm extremely not okay with downloading an executable to make the install media. Just give me a vanilla ISO, I don't need to give more avenues of intrusion into my Wintel PC, nor do I want the Windows PC to mess with the install media. Seems like a bad idea overall. As far as Gnome, these shortcomings are hardly unique to Gnome. Every Linux I've used has a lack of development of the GUI. Right click interface has been around for decades. Windows and Mac have very deep integration with this. As well as providing hooks for 3rd parties to avail themselves of the right click menu for things like Adobe Bridge, Notepad++, VSC etc. It's bonkers to me they haven't caught up on this. But it's kind of obvious that many if not most Linux users are going straight to the command prompt. It's part of the culture. But it really hampers wider adoption as a desktop OS.

I am running maté spin in fyodora 36 lainux, to stay with gnome 2. It keeps familiar minimization button and stores launchers on the panel for one-click access. On my second laptop, I run maté manjaro 5.15. (fyodora (Princess Theodora) comes from the Russian-based fyodora hat used by RedHat.) My first fyodora was fyodora 14; my earlier experience was with RedHat since 1998.

this reminds me too much of windows
@glenr5461 Says:
Hey Chris, btrfs vs ext4? Your opinion?
@Afrocanuk Says:
One key purpose of Fedora is being a test-bed for RedHat.
@moneyluser5711 Says:
gnome extentions are a maintenance problem. they break on upgrades, you need to reinstall on every machine, and its even more complex with a firewall. a 'common-extentions' dnf package with a checkbox menu on a settings panel might be a workable compromise.
@nyccontrabass3489 Says:
I remember when Red Hat was free. Also, fantastic videos! Thank you for all you do.
@antoniopiano6781 Says:
Very good review. Gnome in Ubuntu is great but here it seams out of touch with every day reality... What made me leave Fedora was the surprise (bad) I got when I "commited the sin" of installing Chrome. Fedora changes some code in Chrome and I was unnable to use it with maximum security! In order to free the browser to be used as one wants I had to run this command: sudo /etc/opt/chrome/policies/managed/00_gssapi.json. That's definitely not the way...
@fabricio4794 Says:
i Have the 36 Version Fedora Games XFCE spin,its much better,but.....Nobara is the Future of Fedora on Desktop...specially on run Wne there.....
@ivankremer3738 Says:
People who use Fedora, generally prefer to do everything through the terminal, so they don't care about the mentioned constrictions in the GUI.
@davidwayne9982 Says:
CAn I install CINAMOM AND KDE on my FEDORA install and then just BOOT INTO which ever I want at any time????
@davidwayne9982 Says:
I thought it was SLOW... but I do like the BRTFS, the FLATPAK use, and other things in it.. but I'd have to use KDE-- can't STAND gnome. (and i'm NOT a KEYBOARD BANGING IDIOT.)
@davidwayne9982 Says:
I tried it and HATED it-- (but then as I said- I HATE gnome).. so maybe something else would work.. but WHAT IS THE ADVANTAGE of having this over something like MX21 which I have--
@davidwayne9982 Says:
I was thinking of putting MATERIAL SHELL on top of the gnome-- for TILING function- but watched a video a minute ago- wtih the ACTUAL way gnome was SUPPOSE to be used-- and it is basically TILING Tabs.. that's about it- and to do material shell would be overkill of just being able to shift the damn spaces around.
@davidwayne9982 Says:
I have the KDE version on my VENTOY and have looked at it briefly-- and it appears to have a LOT more control-- as you were mentioning hrere wiht the gnome version (and I have always hated gnome anyway)...
@davidwayne9982 Says:
Can I install MULTIPLE DEs and then just BOOT INTO whichever I want to use on Fedora???
@talananiyiyaya8912 Says:
You reviewed desktop environments, not fedora
@carnap355 Says:
You can maximize/unmaximize windows by dragging them to the top of the screen, like in Windows
@lunakittyyy Says:
Alright, I gotta be that person. Minimize and maximize buttons *are* part of GNOME. You have to install GNOME Tweaks to enable them. Not very different than just installing an extension since you still have to go out and install something, but its worth noting that these buttons still exist without 3rd party community efforts. Vanilla GNOME is a blank slate for you to customize to your liking. All I need are minimize and maximize buttons and a dock, which is relatively quick to install and it still feels more fluid than Ubuntu's implementation of GNOME in my personal opinion.
@voodoovinny7125 Says:
Those who state that you can add extensions to Gnome 42 to do what you want that is not allowed by default, they don't seem to realize that Gnome 42 is still so new all those that worked with Gnome 41 does not really work with Gnome 42.
@ranjanadissanayaka5390 Says:
I'm new to fedora..this review definitely helped me...thanks man.
@Revenant483 Says:
I am brand new to GNU Linux I am starting with Linux Mint 21. It seems stable and I like the Cinnamon Desktop but Fedora with KDE Plasma looks pretty nice as well. I might give it a try to see if I like it better. Is the KDE Desktop stable? I don't want to chuck out the baby with the bathwater.
@aliasgur3342 Says:
Anyone - so, the upgrade that must be done every 6-12 months - does that involve wiping everything away and installing a new OS or can the updates be applied incrementally? (as ever Chris, if you are reading this its a very engaging video)
@Maisonier Says:
I totally agree with you. Simple things that should be by default, not to waste the time of the user ... I had A LOT of issues with an old nvidia quadro 600 to make it work. Like & subscribed.

For the application launcher I want to go one step ahead .... In Voyager Linux all applications are in Groups. So you can easaly choose a group and find the application you want very fast !! My question: Is the same app-launcher possible in Fedora ??

@tbirdtelecaster7481 Says:
Fedora 36 is still very limited in it's software repository, Linux Mint Debian Edition is far superior.
