Is it true that the Vim4 has less NPU? seems like the Vim3 had 5Tflops and Vim4 has a lot less???

Cool firmware menu. That Android 11 wallpaper is from the Pixel Desktop, from Rasp3, as alternative to Raspbian. For those not using noobs..

I notice the android image listed in the downloader is for 32bit android - does this mean that that build can only address <4gb of the systems 8GB ram?

You forgot to mention that it has an embedded programable microcontroller, a powerful STM32

You can make a spacer for the case.

I think they should dump one microphone, and have the pads to mount the DHCP chip from a TV for the input stream.

One of the reasons I got this board was for streaming video playback, particularly of a local news broadcast. Using either ubuntu or Android, it is nowhere near the quality or FPS that people have noted. Freezes and video stops playback. Using Firefox, because Chrome would not even get started. Any suggestions or tweaks people are employing?

CSI stands for CMOS sensor interface originally.
@ziyadurukan Says:
Hello, Thanks for this great video. in 17:40 you explain the HDMI input of the SBC. Let's say I install Android OS and want to stream on Instaram, Twitch etc. can the apps accept HDMI in like a built in camera (MIPI CSI)? I want to set up my streaming scene on OBS with different background images using chroma key green screen. My usb camera will be connected to my desktop PC on which OBS is installed. I will capture my usb camera then put it on the background image. Then I will project the scene as full screen to the HDMI out port of my graphics card. I will connect the hdmi out of the PC to the hdmi in port of this SBC. On android, when I open the camera app or any app that wants to use camera should acccess the video from the HDMI in. I use this streaming method on my Odroid N2+ with a usb video capture card. My current sreaming app recognizes the video capture card as extrenal usb webcam, but this case does not work all the time for all apps that access camera. For example Instagram and tiktok can't open usb video capture as webcam. I will be glad if you send your opinion, and be grateful if you make a test for me. Cheers.

Can you talk more about the timing of the Function + Reset upon boot to get into OOWOW? I have android installed, and want to get back to OOWOW to go to Linux, but can't seem to get the button combo correct...It keeps booting into android no matter what I try....

What's the power consumption of this board like? Idle and under load.

does anyone know if this board have any overclocking ability for the CPU/GPU? cant see any mention of it anywhere, which may mean its not possible. looking for confirmation before a potential purchase?

Very nice 👍
@undergroundnews_dk Says:
Can it install from the google app store app like the larix broadcaster or maybe newtech ndi using hdmi input? That would be usefull. Today I use rp4 with camlink to portable streaming with a powerbank and sharing my mobilephone internet but this hardware looks more what I needed. Maybe the app store problem is solved - but can you run maybe OBS on Linux and capture hdmi in ?
@undergroundnews_dk Says:
Wow this is very cool with the hdmi input - it can replace a hdmi capture device ? this is very usefull.
@Coyotehello Says:
Am I making too much of a fuss here? Hi again Christopher, In the application I am looking at (navigation software) reliability is of importance. The R Pi is very popular for this but there must be something more reliable and powerful. I have little trust in SD card or eMMC card for reliability and would prefer a NvME card for the OS, storage and also for speed. I cannot seem to find a SBC board that offers PCIE card that can be used for the OS. The nVidia SBC has a NvME slot but the OS still needs to be on a SD card. Why is that and am I worrying about reliability of SD and eMMC card for nothing? Thanks in advance Rgds, a.

I wish I knew what you know. That's all I can say. About a decade ago or more, I knew some things, but I got out of building computers and so much has changed, that I'm lost now. I used to build about 5 to 6 computers a year just for fun and sell them for what I had in them. I haven't done that in years, and now I have no clue about anything. I'm subscribed and I'll keep watching and maybe I'll be able to catch up.
@yoppindia Says:
Not google certified, I suppose.
@samsungemployee5243 Says:
I sure hope you get us updated on the play store status for this SBC and does it have an option to record from the HDMI input?
@canonicaltom Says:
Considering that the Pi 4 B retails for $200 these days, the price/performance of the VIM4 is much better.
@ff1077 Says:
Just think of the case cap as a way of extra cooling intake and exhaust.
@ampere-mam Says:
The person that left their fingerprint on that wireless module die indefinitely is going to end up with cancer as it most likely came from China because if it cannot be removed of that die mostly means that whatever that person came into contact with is a class 2 carcinogen. I otherwise don't understand how you can etch your fingerprint into a silicon die.
@sau002 Says:
Nice video. What segment of the market does this SBC cater to?
@gokselk Says:
If the hdmi in and usb 2 places are changed and the AMD processor version comes out, I would be happy to buy it. otherwise "lattepanda" is more flexible.
@Bodneyblue Says:
Quick question:..Could you install Windows?
@devers6 Says:
I have often thought of a product that has an HDMI In, an HDMI out, and a second HDMI in that would appear to any connected computer as an HDMI monitor with 1080p resolution. Normally the video would pass through from In to Out unmodified if the “monitor” input is displaying solid black; but if any text or graphics is displayed on the “monitor”, it would be overlayed/composited on the HDMI output. Typical scenario: you are watching TV and the doorbell rings. You instantly get a pop-up video window of who’s at the door. Another would be to create a custom “crawler feed” with SMS, email or other text. I know such a setup could be assembled using hardware devices and OBS, but I would like it all self-contained in a small box inserted inline with my primary HDMI input on my TV, Projector, or even one of my HDMI monitors on my computer. Is anyone aware of such a device? I’ve looked, but the application is so specific I could have easily missed it. What I have found are expensive professional solutions, but nothing consumer/hobbyist level. If someone smarter than me wants to build one. I would be happy to collaborate.

Thanks for the review . Hope to see updates on it , like how to use the HDMI input . Hope you get a Hackboard 2 to review when it gets released soon .

Now install the Nano text editor on it.
@Stormy2142 Says:
that's kinda like a smart phone in SBC format.
@yumri4 Says:
The VIM 4 very much seems like a video pass through video recording device. 1 thing i can think of is a device to go between your computer and monitor for video capture. It has the price to match too if it has a low latency between HDMI in and when it gets to HDMI out.
@ericwood3709 Says:
I like that it seems to have all of the interfaces on one side. Great for doing a case mod, say with a Mac mini case.
@Vaidin93 Says:
Mr Barnatt, please make also review to Firefly roc-rk3588s. Competitor to this Khadas VIM4. Also you can make comparison between both. Thanks and looking forward to your thoughts about the suggested device.
@fabracht Says:
I disagree with your comment that in terms of price/performance ratio, the pi is the winner. For quite a while now, it's been impossible to find pi's for their stock price. A raspberry pi 4 8gb goes for 200 bucks on amazon and that's not likely to change in the near future.
@ps3301 Says:
The new rk3588 based radxa rock 5 sbc should be the best one to buy!!

Sir Chris, In running test video, I saw (SNAP CHROMIUM). RUNNING. SO, CHROME AND MICROSOFT HAVE IMBEDDED COMPONENTS IN THIS LINUX? CAN YOU DISCUSS ALL THAT CHROME AND MICROSOFT HAVE “DONATED” TO BE USED IN LINUX(ALL FLAVORS)? I KNOW MICROSOFT HAS THINGS IN RASPBIAN NOW.
@smartassist9700 Says:
SIR CHRIS! Hope you are well. It’s been a while! Can you tell me the main focus of type use KHADAS intends for this VIM4?
