On August 27th 2021, Microsoft provided an update on Windows 11 system requirements here: https://blogs.windows.com/windows-insider/2021/08/27/update-on-windows-11-minimum-system-requirements-and-the-pc-health-check-app/
As you will see, they have added a few CPUs to the compatible list, including some 7th Gen Intel processors, but not 1st generation AMD Zen (so chips like the Ryzen 3 2200G remain unsupported). Microsoft is hence -- for now -- sticking to its initial position regarding (fully) supported CPUs, on the grounds of security and reliability. It therefore remains the fact that Windows 11 is an OS for new and pretty new PCs, with as Microsoft put it, Windows 10 being "the right choice" for other hardware. And after 2025, such hardware will no longer be able to run a supported version of Windows.
The title of this video still says it all, with my assessment of the situation remaining unchanged following Microsoft's above announcement . . .
@podgee7507 Says:
Don't waste your time on this, get Linux
@kenmare16 Says:
Four years on and your predictions have been spot on.
@Telyzan Says:
The way around NOT signing into a Microsoft account while installing Windows is to NOT connect a internet cable or connecting to the internet via Wi-Fi. This will display a window where you can pick "I do not have internet" (or something like this), then you will be able to setup a local account on the machine.

I'd been a MS guy since the '90s. The latest from MS was the last straw. My previous computer was plenty fast after I upgraded my HD and jammed it full of RAM not long enough ago. With them forcing me to get a new computer and then wanting to jam a non-local AI on it, you find me here on my new System76 Pangolin computer :) I am very impressed with it so far.
@Tags2Music Says:
In many ways, Win11 is a downgrade as more control is given up and features that needed to forced but could be used (Quick Start for one) are now not available. Even configuring the taskbar is harder as many control options have simply been removed. I cloned Windows 10 and downgraded to 11 just so I have a version I can run a few pieces of software on that are Windows. However I need to use Linux to run my scanner, which is no longer supported since the demise of 7 and I have just purchased a refurbished Macbook. I am still deciding whether to just keep using 10 when I need to but I will make disk images of 11 too so that I can chop and change. I won't be buying any more Windows software though. Open Source allows me to do the majority of things I need to do so I don't really need Windows on all my computers. My big decision is whether to force Windows 11 on a laptop that doesn't support it just so that I can dual boot it and have a Windows version I can take around with me and go on line if I need to. M$ have sunk to new depths with their current policy, I do hope people are brave enough to either install 11 on unsupported devices or even better, install Linux.
@GianfrancoSain Says:
Is still working. But now the windows setup is modified. So at the first windows setup make the added to the registry
@kahanibob Says:
i love windows 11 it is a very good operating system.
@tarwod1098 Says:
3 years since the upload. Well, an already bad situation has worsened significantly 😮
Now Microsoft is adamant to shove AI Copilot down our throats 🤮
Before we could still be hopeful that the next Windows version would be better, like it usually was, but now they messed up so badly they will chase millions of users to the adventure of Linux. Just like me
@empanada223 Says:
Windows...is done. It doesn't even _matter_ if they can weather this storm, they will never be the same again. The decline is permanent. Nothing is going to stop the mass exodus to Linux or Apple...If people thought the exodus to Linux was a big deal, wait until October XD!
@notanfningain Says:
Cash grab.
@zinger0466 Says:
I do not like windows 11.
@jantelow Says:
I installed Windows 11-24H2 on two 7-8 year old laptops using the Rufus method and they work fine, but how long will it be before Microsoft puts a stop to further updates? I suspect they will make an update that sabotages the Rufus method.
@jantelow Says:
Windows 11 is really good, but it has a Linux-like crappy file manager that is cumbersome to use. I liked the one in Windows 10 better.
@RedVRCC Says:
Debloater tools are gonna be more important than ever now. I already debloated my 10 installation and got it exactly how I want and I'm not excited to have to do it all over again.
@ashishkushwaha3812 Says:
I have no option than to use windows in my office. That keeps reminding me that even after10 yrs of my Linux, I never need to go back to windows
@stevesibaja3123 Says:

@TroubledTrooper Says:
As long as Microsoft owns Windows it will always be under threat and subpar to Linux, that is what Win11 taught me these past few years until M$ arbitrarily decided that everyone must migrate NOW. As long as it's closed source and owned by a for profit corporation they will always screw with it. Ruin it. Monetize it. Destroy it. People LOOOOOVE to talk about the bad nature of GPL open source development (which I am part of, so I can dispute it with confidence to these people who often LEECH OFF OUR WORK by using Linux/GPL software themselves), but the major issue with using Windows with it's development nature aside from morality is that Windows is in a cage. It's in Microsoft's cage and they can do whatever they want with it.
If they wanted a man screaming at you for an hour once you logged in and made it essential to the operating system by linking functions to it, they could. That is the main problem with Windows. It's not open, it's closed and if you like what Win11 offers you today, you are not guaranteed to like what Win12 offers you tomorrow. You should never concede your property to this, we should have never accepted it. That's why I say get Linux now even if your cage is comfortable, you can be guaranteed that decisions taken with it are going to be transparent, open and if you don't like it you can fork it and use something else. "Free Software" means FREEDOM. That's the best reason to use Linux. People even use different init systems just because they follow a particular philosophy.
I rambled but that is what one does when you get older. Point is that Windows has a fundamental problem that cannot be solved, and that is the nature of it's development.
@deniskundrat7161 Says:
Windows 11 is probably going to stay on my laptop only for duration of manufacturers warranty period of 1 year. There were no problems in using win 10 for 9 years. Windows 11 simply does not allow me to set up system and remove unnecesary system components for me the way I would like it. Thanks. And special thanks for pointing out that many hacks presented widely on YouTube simply does not work in Windows 11.
@melihaksoy7430 Says:
When you buy a car, would you drive it until it runs out of fuel, then abandon it?
If you buy a software, should you be allowed to use it until the next version is released?
Even if I buy Windows 11, how long would I be allowed to use it?
By not providing security updates, Microsoft is allowing Cyber criminals to be successful.
Amazingly, no government in the world is strong enough to prevent Microsoft from making the computers useless, but Linux could.
@nerdibern3895 Says:
Microsoft is a monopoly with no competition. It is a disgrace and very exploitative. Microsoft should be compelled to open source Windows.
@chrisicotec7652 Says:
i know this video is a few years old, but if i gave my true comments on what i really think about windows 11 ud get banned from yourube and bill gates would probably set his robot mosquitoes on me
@userminer2280 Says:
Windows 11 has slightly less performance than windows 10 to my experience
@klarion Says:
Well, it seems that more and more devices will come out with AI integrated hardware that will be able to record user input before encryption and if so, new hardware will be a must... In any case, if I must use an account and agree to a service, then I will forgo windows altogether. Linux with vm will have to do..
@nazar-channel-ua Says:
How can people still use Windows? Linux is a superior OS. Windows is an SSD killer.
@sebastjansslavitis3898 Says:
It looks nice, but when they pull the plug on windows 10 I'm going linux. I just have to fight against evil
@Mbro-dq2do Says:
Great Video Chris! !his is why Im a Mac guy.
@Watch-and-Rewind Says:
I use Windows 11 but I have made it look somwhat like 10
@tigrom01 Says:
Excellent video
@trumpetplayer6397 Says:
I have exactly the same opinion on this, Chris.
Thanks for highlighting this trend.
Linux, here I come!
@nader382 Says:
To Bill Gate, having a billion of Dollars is not enough so he wants to force windows users to go and buy news hardware and make hardware producers richer or people consider Linux or other OS. But I will steak with windows 10 even without Microsoft update a use a free internet security software instead.
Windows 11 is bad version of windows 10. And windows xp is the most beautifull and user friendly.
@keithdavis7595 Says:
I just saw this video so I guess this is old news now. Something I have learned with Win10 and 11 is if you have a internet connection that is below 10mbs it will not function for doing anything except checking email or web surfing. In the past this was overcome by turning off all the things running in the background. With Win 10 and 11 you have to be a coder to turn these things off. LOL! So for the last 2 years I have used Linux Mint and EVERYTHING works perfectly. I'll never go back to Windows.
@GosWardHen98 Says:
I've enjoyed the Microsoft experience & like all the big corporates today, control & consistency with the way they push you towards a direction 90% don't wish to be. If I can learn Linux properly, as a qualified tech buff myself, it'll need specific software compatibility with android, too, as Samsung does with Microsoft. I'll use W11 but not until I cannot use W10, then I'll migrate to Linux using Libre as my default office application. Just amount the money!
@stephenjacobs4692 Says:
I would be very interested in your thoughts about the end of support for Windows 10 in October 2025.
@Mason-hs9oz Says:
No one ever talks about Vista 😞
@eds5977 Says:
Ok 12-15-23 still using Windows 10
@Amanda-f3i1b Says:
Windows 11 = Windows VISTA 💀
@klarion Says:
If I could run my software in Linux, I wouldn't think twice and NO, windows emulators, VMs are not good enough... too complicated and slow.. too much time wasted for someone who's not full time tech enthusiast or pro.
@douglaspearson4853 Says:
Just curious have you seen Tiny Widows 11?
@douglaspearson4853 Says:
My laptop was using Win7 I was happy. Then ran into prroblems it got to the point reapparing didn't make sense and the expense of parts, time and a OS. So I got great deal on a new lap top $250US an it came with Win11. I do like the laptop its lightwieght resonalble fast and since I use it for browsing, finances, datebase, spreadsheet, word processing & personal data. Its great. I do miss a harddrive, dvd. But I already had externals if needed. I did purchase a portable WSElements drive with I learned about on one of you videos. I installed my progams I want on it. Mostly programs I only run is the drive is pluggged in which works good for me. I am going to upgrade to more memory from 4 to 120 I think is the max. As far as operating system I agree I liked 98, got used to XP and liked 7. I am not a fan of 11. I could be just me but thing pop up all the time when I am busy or something shuts down when I don't want it to. I like Lynux better. Just my take.
@ethiobeat360 Says:
Microsoft is dying so no worries 😅
@Richardstevens1234 Says:
Who ever made 11 was a fool no one is going to buy a new pc that will cost hundreads of pounds just to use windows 11 eveyone will turn over to apple software or something else
@thelovertunisia Says:
Call me old school if you like but I really think legacy BIOS was much more ergonomic than the complex and unclear interface of UEFI.
@thelovertunisia Says:
I think Microsoft is really pushing people to Linux this time. Greetings from Tunisia.
@thelovertunisia Says:
Even on a new laptop it is very slow.
@christinehede7578 Says:
Microsoft says to make your life better, I say get the hell out of my life, you have no idea what I want. From the future in June 2023 I have just bought a new pc with windows 11 installed. I like it but only after removing all their bloatware crap. I only use my pc for gaming and have zero interest in personal feeds or any of the other apps that come with win 11.
